  1. if you want to do it...do it. forget the naysayers (though they are all right in their own perspective). just make sure you have the dough to finish what you sttarted or you will be real unhappy about the whole thing. I drive an 85 wagon that is heavily modified and it has been reliable for the last 50K or so 26 mpg to boot! but if you want a trick car a new one will never do in its place. peace.
  2. ..curious to know if anyone has ever put a 6 cylinder in a wagon I have an 85 wagon that has a perfect ea-82 but I am curious... Also out here in western Oregon(you did not hear this from me) the timber companies open their gates for deer season soon, which means a free for all on the dirt and rock logging roads, as long as we are responsible and are out of the woods by sundown and we dont tear up the expensive roads, i think much fun can be had . brief directions; west on hwy 30 take the vernonia cutoff go up the hill and start exploring whichever road strikes your fancy but wear orange (and dont wear antlers) If you make it all the way up to hwy47 go west and hit hwy 202 for the coast out through the elk reserve. It is a beautiful drive with many interesting 4wheel possibilities. 202 ends in astoria then a blast back up the main hwys into portland peace wingnwing
  3. check this outfit called Faxon in the bay area. they sell used factory shop manuals I bought one for my 85 gl for $35.00 the books arrived like new condition and now i have the factory spec. peace

I fooled around with that some years ago, and I have seen the light;--get a weber as it is a bolt on and the power is very nice. don't worry about the water jacket in the manifold it never gets hot enough to cause any problem. In fact the biggest problem with the weber is icing. I have wrapped small diameter coolant hose around the outside of the manifold under the carb, and that helps. skin all of the emission away from the block and the engine looks nice also.

I'm going with 13 inch rims and snow tires for now This is because Schwab does not have the tires i need in 14". the smallest is 29" tall and 6 ply...and my account is at schwab's I think the plan is to lift 3" inches and convert to toyota wheels. then wheels/tires is a non-issue. I will have this done before the snow flies here and then we can have some fun. I parked this car in the barn for three years and loaned it out occasionally. I dusted it off last week when the gass prices forced my tonner flatbed off the road I just love this subie-forgotten how much i prized this car. If any one wants to come up here in the mountians to run the woods, this winter le me know.
  6. hello all it has been a very long time since i have posted and i like the new format. can some one tell me what is the maximum size tire that will fit under a unlifted 85 wagon with pug wheels?? also is it better to pull the engine when doing a tranny r&r or can i get it done from beneath the car. I simply dont remember these points and I am refurbishing my wagon thanks for the help.
