Just fabbed up a turbo scoop on our 85 Turbo Brat. Scored a turbo hood from a 92 legacy from a junk yard and retro fitted it to our 1985 Brat. I had a similar problem with my 85 Brat. She would be idling perfectly or driving down the road then out of nowhere, it shut itself off. we found the problem was the ECU was cutting power to the fuel pump. got a new ECU and she was back on the road!
