  1. Hey guys. I bought my 79 wagon in December but have had next to no time to do much with it. I even contemplated selling it. Crazy, I know! My schedule is opening up a bit headed into the summer so I am planning on working on her. It runs alright but just seems so slow. This is probably just because its from 79. My buddy has a weber carb that he ended not using on his VW project so I am thinking about getting that from him. What are your thoughts on that? Whats a good price for a weber? Anything else I should look to do so help the driving experience? Another thing I have noticed.. the shifter just seems to be so loose and all of the place. Kind of like I am driving a big truck. Is this the norm? Am I crazy to expect it to be anything like my 04 OBW? And then on to the appearance: I would like to find a new driver door or come up with a way to find to replace/remove the trim to get everything to match up. Where can I get one? What should I do? Bumpers. Obviously not the originals. Are those something that can be found? Any other years fit? Rack. I want one. Anyone have one? Anyone have success making one? I really appreciate the help from you guys. As I get going, I will keep you updated with pictures or the process! Thanks!
  2. where is the trim for those doors. I am looking for a driver door that will match my other three.
  3. Yea, I was able to talk him down quite a bit actually. Got it for only $540.
  4. Hey guys! I've wandered around on the forum little for the last year or so dreaming of when I could finally own a first gen wagon and that has now become a reality. Monday afternoon I found a 79 wagon and craigslist in Salem, Oregon and that night I drove down and bought it! It drives pretty well and isn't in too bad of shape. The driver door is mismatched and there is some added paint that is a little off in color but thats okay with me for now! I have a little experience with cars but my roommate is very vehicle savvy so I am excited to learn on this guy. I look forward to look to some of you for a little help along the way as well!
  5. Thanks guys for all your help! Went and took a look at it and I was pretty disappointed. It was a lot rougher than I had anticipated. Don't think they had driven it for a while and I think it was worse than they thought as well. Returned home without my first Subaru but with a better idea of what I want! Thanks again!
  6. Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! I just got an email back. They said it has 250000 miles on it... What's the life expectancy on one of these. Obviously it depends on how they took care of it but even if its been care of, could it be on its last legs? I am going to call them in the morning to find out more! Thanks again!
  7. Hey Guys! Been browsing you're conversations for some time now while looking for my very first Subaru! Been close to acquiring a couple different ones but distance ended up being a major factor. I have been looking for a wagon 1984 or older primarily because I like the body style. Just found one on CL which is only about 45 min away and easily in my price range. I have never been a car guy primarily because my dad never taught me much as I grew up so I need some guidance from the best! Here's the CL ad: (he has is listed as an '85 but am I right in saying that it is an '84 or older?) http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/3357571819.html What do you think? What questions do I need to ask before going to check it out? I have sent him an email and am awaiting his reply. And if its a steal of a deal, let me know and don't go swoop out from under me!
