79 GL Wagon front end crunch-need some parts
Subieguy replied to def's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
If no one helps you with the turn signal assembly I can help. I have a bunch of them complete sitting around -
Did you figure out where the clutch return spring goes? From the clutch fork to the drivers side of the intake manifold. There is a notch right there on top next to the PCV spot on the manifold. That's where it goes.

Anybody have any good suggestions to fixing or replacing the drivers side door hinges on a 78 Brat. Mine are really worn out. I am pretty sure Subaru does not have them anymore.

I am looking for a complete glove box assembly for my 78 Brat. Mine used to have A/C so it had a tiny glove box that holds nothing. So I am looking to replace it with the normal size glove box since the A/C is long gone. So I am looking for every part of it down to the screws. Don't really need the door but if you have one that's black I will take it too. Let me know what you have. Thanks, Richard

Looking like this project is moving along nicely!

Source for rear end hanger bar bushing-Brat

Got my new bushings installed in my moustache bar today. So nice to have those fresh bushings in there. Hopefully they will last at least another 20 years. -
I have never seen such detail and effort to bring a Brat back. I think it's great! Plus you had the part numbers for the bushings on the mustache bar. Big help. Going to have a shop press them in tomorrow. Gave it a effort but the old ones were not budging. How have you managed to find some of these old part numbers? My local dealer is useless when it comes to our old Brats. I just buy parts online.

Thanks for the part numbers. Just ordered them. Glad to see these parts are still available. -
Or you have a boatload of old door handles sitting around and you can scavenge from them!

It will be the little plastic piece that holds the connecting rod to the lock part by a small rod. The little plastic clip sometimes breaks off and the rod just comes out. Both my doors were like that on my 78 Brat. Just had my passenger door apart on Sunday and put another clip in there and problem solved.

No such thing as a 76-77 Brat. The gen 1 Brat's are 78-81. -
Difficult to locate items?
Subieguy replied to raging squirrel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Piece of advice. If you ever come across a parts car. Whatever it may be, a wagon, sedan or brat, etc grab it. Every time I find one, Which seems to be getting more and more difficult I strip it out for any useful parts. You never know when extra parts will come along again. -
You do realize you can use a door handle for your tailgate handle right? They are exactly the same as the door handle.

My new to me 1980 Subaru GL Brat.
Subieguy replied to O.C.D.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This should be in the historic section. The seat brackets are all the same. Yours appears to have all the mounting tabs cut off. That can be fixed though. You need to get the correct headrests for it though. That is the slider that the headrest slides up and down on. The head pad itself is the same. The 78-81 are the same. In the Gen 2 Brats the headrests sliders are actually a different length and you would need to drill new holes to get them right, It's not a big deal to do it though. -
Great idea! Please do it!

Question about replacing a Cv axle on 89 GL-10
Subieguy replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah I found it on their website too. Can't believe they could not figure out what I needed. They were closer than O'reilley auto parts though. The idiot kept trying to sell me one for a XT6. Does it make any difference between a auto or stick axle? -
I went to replace the left fron cv axle on my Aunt's 89 GL-10 turbo wagon today. Pulled it out and made a discovery. The inboard cup is a 25 spline. The guys at Napa gave me a 23 spline. That is all they show for this car. I can't find any axle for this. It has the full time 4wd auto tranny in it. Thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard

Ok, I found a guy who is selling a XT-6 that he says has some minor issues. Here is what he says is wrong: Air suspension is going out, Seems to have a problem with fuel delivery. Runs for a while then seems to putter. That is what he has listed as problems. It is a full time 4wd car with 131,000 miles. I need to know if there is anything else to look out for on a XT-6? I have owned 2 XT's but never a XT-6. I imagine a full suspension swap should be done. What will work for the suspension conversion? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard
