  1. No, front wheel drive. No rule that says you have to be rwd in my class. Big advantage over Mustangs. As a matter of fact two more FWD's showed up on the track this year after they saw how well Subie did last year. A 92 turboed Mazda & a Morpar product that I haven't been able to identify. Both are my only real competitors.
  2. Hello KStetch55, We are in the Salmon area. Right now we are pretty tied up with this stock car racing thing until after next season. This Winter I am having my street XT painted and going through engine (may even replace it) to make it road worthy for long trips & yes hopefully a rally. Sounds like fun and really glad to know you guys are trying to get a Rally going within a reasonable distance. Cool. Let me know if this developes. Might be able to at least make it to McCall.
  3. Here you go subyrally. Need to update picture as we have more trophies now! I would rally mine if we had any of those events around here. A real blast to drive. Another bit of advice, use super heavy duty water hoses to keep that cooling system from failing. We also run a electric fan. Good Luck & have fun!! Oh yeah, we sipe & groove our tires. Makes a big difference in the dirt.
  4. Started my race car up today to get it ready for the last race of the season on Sept. 3. Horrible lifter noise! Weird as it was fine last race. Anyway, thought I would share with you how my mechanic (husband) fixed it. This is the second time he has done this and been sucessful. First, off with the valve cover from the side of the offensive noise. Remove bolt (14mm) from the oil tube in the cam which contains spring. He used a magnet to remove spring after bolt was removed. In this case the spring looked weak so we robbbed another from a spare cam. Then he stretched it to 3/16". Insert spring back into hole & reassemble. He uses silicone to reseal the valve cover. Walla, noise gone like magic!! This also raised the oil pressure slightly. For those of you intrested on how our season has gone so far: After 6 race days, we have 5 trophies & $500.00. One 1st, two 2nds, one 3rd and a first my husband won in the mechanics race. Yes, we are beating up on those Mustangs!! I am in contention for track high point so this last race is a biggy. Would have been way ahead in points if I hadn't blown engine in 3rd race. But that's racing! Engine we used to replace blown one has 216,000 miles on it. Runs great with even more acceleration than before. Our sponsors from 4Seasons Motors Subaru dealership including parts, sevice & sales departments will be attending this last race. Very exciting!!!!!!! We plan on racing one more season then retiring from the stock car racing scene. I am racing a lawn mower also now and have won $150.00 with my go fast rider. We get to race them at the stock car races on a small track in the middle of the regular track during breaks in the car racing program. Much cheaper to race it & lots of fun also. Now I wonder if we can fit a EA82 turbo on the mower???????????
  5. Yep, we are ready! Practice April 9th. If the stock car runs as good as the street car we are gonna have some fun Sorry unable to fiqure out how to post pictures:-\
  6. Hi all!! Finished up installing new used EA82T engine in the XT 4WD Turbo last night. Took it for a spin last night. Runs great and we love the power. Only one thing has us stumped. Electric cooling fan runs all the time. We have uplugged it for now. Relay is working. Possible bad switch??? Any suggestions would be appriciated!!! Thanks
  7. My mechanic (husband) and I just came in from our shop after spending 1 hour and 50 min. pulling the EA82T out of our XT. This is the second one we have done so we had some experince. Pete has built a hoist with a electric winch. Hangs from a large beam in our shop. I pushed the button and he guided the engine out. Worked great!!! This engine we pulled has 213,000 miles on it. Low compression in one cylinder. We will repair it and use for our backup race engine for stock car. Engine going in has 135,000 which Pete has completly gone through. The turbo off the old engine is in great shape so will re-install that. Pete says the hardest for him was the downpipe as bolts were tight & hard to get at. Left turbo attached also. Best advice is to take as much time as you need & don't try to break any records!

  9. Hope pictures help along with a few more details. Pete used a 1/2" drill to enlarge suck hole. The length of copper tubing is approx. 5/16ths. He says very important to keep top of copper tubing flush with oil pump face. You can see in the picture of the gasket, which we removed from this pump, the suck side gasket is pretty messed up. The lip of the copper tubing should keep the oil pump from sucking in the poor mouses ear:grin:
  10. Just thought I would tell you about what should be a sure fix for keeping the the oil pump from sucking in that mickey mouse gasket we came up with. After replacing the micky mouse gasket on our EA82 engine in our stock car the ticking stopped for awhile but gradually came back. Just today my mechanic (husband) took oil pump off an EA82T engine that he is working on for next race season. The mickey mouse ear on it was chewed up & obviously had been sucked in. So he came up with what should be a cure to the problem. He inserted a piece of copper tubing in the suck hole leaving just enough lip to keep the gasket from sucking in. The tubing has got to be the right diameter to fit good & tight of course. It should at least eliminate one source of ticking issues. He loves coming up with these simple & cheap fixes for the common Subaru problems.
  11. I would be very interested! Swapping engines in my xt stock car this Winter. Key word "STOCK". However there are some mods we are considering as folks out here have never seen such a beast before and would not have a clue as to what is stock. Other drivers have already made mod's on their Fords., cam's & such, so if your going to beat 'em ya gotta join 'em:D Anyway, hope you can get it done as I appreciate any info. on EA82 & EA82T's I come across. As for $$ for the buying of parts, well it will just motivate me to get more sponsers:banana:
  12. 262,000 miles on my 1989 GL XT. Still runs strong. Gas mileage probably not so good as I usually have the pedal to the metal plus I never get out of second gear going round & round a 1/4 mile dirt track. Installing EA82T this Winter for next race season as more HP's are needed to beat those Mustangs running 2.5's:D
