  1. yeah it really does have an e81 in it, you can see it stamped into the engine. it also has the tranny because its dual range. so basically another e81 is my only option is what im getting. it pours water out the exhaust and runs cruddy, happend all the sudden
  2. 1979 brat with e81. water comes out the exhaust pipe, think i have a major problem. what would be the newest engine i could bolt onto the tranny without a problem, if i had the tranny from a newer car would it line up with the rear transfer and the whole drive line? basicaly whats the newest motor that without a whole lot of hassel would work in a 1979 brat. thanks!
  3. ive looked on ebay for a week and cant find any gen 1 stuff for my brat. the local pick-a-part junk yard only holds mid 80s cars. my front cv joint assembly bit the dust and i have no idea where to look to replace it. where do you guys go? i dont want to spend a fortune on somthing new if i dont have too. thanks in advace for any ideas
  4. i need the whole cv arm for my gen 1 brat and it has a gen 2 e81 motor. which cv should i get? if you got it you wanna sell it? check out this deal on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33729&item=7983359293&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  5. haha sweet score sounds like im in for fun!
  6. i took off the right cv because it was making a bad thumping noise. would it be bad to drive the car with only one cv hooked up and just use the rear wheels for power?
  7. it sounds like the gears are grinding when in fwd, worst when im acclerating or letting off the gas. in 4wd its still noticable but not nearly as bad. the sounds getting worse but not much difference in power still pulls nearly as well when giving it gas. I was wondering if the first thing i should do is drop the tranny? or if it could be somthing else. its a e81 with dual range.
  8. C H G= charge? also my 79 brat has a e81 and alot of wires dont match up nothings on the electric choke dont know what to do, runs pretty cruddy. did the 79 brat origionaly have a electric choke? coil spring thing when i took it apart.
  9. i think its a hitachi carb its a e81 transplant in a 79 brat. its always been a problem, when i first got it i had to keep my foot on the gas when i wasnt moving or it would die. i cleaned the carb adjusted it and it ran alright most the time, every once in a while i had to play with one of the flap deals on top of the carb(second barel on the carb) to either get it started or to get it to run right, i have a piece of metal keeping it open now and its been running alot better that way cept for this morning when i was going to leave my friends house it wouldnt start then did a couple times but only idled around 700 rpm then died when i gave it gas. ive been taking it off roading heavly latly and after this last time its idle speed had gone way down to where it would die after sec if i wasnt giving it a little gas but it still ran smooth, also my rpm gauge and gas gauge would go out then come back. i need to get home any ideas of a easy quick fix? thanks for your help, i did use the search to find similar issues but didnt turn up any good results spencer
  10. i was told when i bought my 79 brat that it had a e81 and a dual range transmission put into it. the 4wd locks into 2 places so im pretty sure it has dual range but when i went to the junk yard to get a newer carb they were all to big even from a 1987. if i do have a e71 where would i look to find a better performing carb? thanks in advacnce!
  11. if i cut away the fenders so that 29" tires fit would that compromise the unibody to a degree that would be bad? would it still have enough room to turn the tires? are their any other issues?
  12. i have no idea what year the gen 2 1800cc motor is, it is before 87 i think because the 87 at the junkyard had a newer style looking carb. would a 1990 carb off a subaru fit on my some time before 87 1800? current carb wont idle, just dies unless im giving it gas. is the 1990 a improved carb?
  13. the 78 im looking at has been transfored to the 1800cc dual range 4wd and the 82 has a webber carb. i think i like the style of the 78 but is their any differnce in wheel dimensions/ground clearance is one just a better vehicle? i want good off road capabilities, is the 2nd gen easier to upgrade?
