  1. Funny thing is though...knocking sound and oily exhaust valve are on opposite heads.
  2. 2001 Forester- EJ25 SOHC Ran fine before I removed the motor for head gaskets, various seal replacement, rear access panel reseal, new spark plugs, etc. Heads surfaced and cleaned, but I did not take the cams out or do anything with the valves. Put it all back together and...had a loud knock from the left head. Drove fine; plenty of power; no issues beside the knock. Put about 30mi on it. Next morning, started up fine (knock still there). Drove it about 1mi and it started to lurch and lose power. Barely made it back home after stalling and restarting with decreased power. Parked it and the catalytic converter was glowing red hot. Today, 3 days later, took off timing belt cover...still timed correctly with belt tight and pullies and tensioner working. Started it...motor quiet without the loud knock, but is now rocking from side to side. Confirmed spark from each plug wire. Removed exhaust from heads and found oil in #3 valve area all other clean; #3 plug very black. knock hot CAT rocking motor oil in exhaust Any ideas?
  3. 2000 Forester L- door jam states stock tire size is 205/75/15. The vehicle has 225/60/16 on alloy Subaru rims. Are these Forester S wheels? Does anyone know if this change from 15" to 16" wheels will effect the speedo or anything else? Thanks
  4. My TOD began after I did some major engine work. Had everything off down to the block due to head gasket issues. Resurfaced, resealed, new gaskets all around. Had each HLA out for inspection and priming. New oil pump. Put it all back together and TOD. Around 40k miles since engine work. Use Lucas oil treatment and 15w40. Recently added whole can of seafoam to the crankcase before last oil change. Oil pressure is fine. Power is fine. Rarely any hesitation. Drive 90 miles at 55-60mph to work without any problem. Thus far, the factory anti tick device is the only thing that has worked. Grossgary says drive it without worry. That puts my mind at ease. I'd like to read your write up on that subject. What do i search for? Thanks, Pete
  5. I searched tick of death and I realize there have been many posts on the subject, but I have specific question I was unable to find the answer to. My 1992 Loyale has the TOD about 50% of the time. Seems to come and go. Will this cause damage to the motor if left as is? Thanks
  6. I am fixing an EJ25 topend after the timing belt broke; 2000 Forester. Any opinions on leaving the timing belt covers off like I have on my EA82 for easier belt replacement in the future? Thanks
  7. Yes, only the brake lamp. No trailer wiring. Thanks
  8. 1992 Loyale Drivers side brake light just stopped working. New 1157 bulb; no change. Drivers side tail light and passengers side tail and brake lights work fine. Any ideas?
