  1. Calebz! Glad to see you are still here. I remember you helping me out by phone when I blew the boot in the 86 GL on the cross-country trip. Tune up: Any recommendation on the best plug gaps to run? Should I leave the timing at factory spec? I need to get the ea81 manual, most of what I have is ea82 stuff. I have an excel hot coil left over from the 86. That should work on this one too right? Thanks.
  2. Thanks, will def check the CV boots, I lost one on a cross country trip a couple of years back, had to go find a split-boot repair kit in TX. Will also check the CCV to the valve covers. Battery is toast, getting new one this weekend. Anything else?
  3. After going a couple of years without an older Ru, I'm back with an 84 GL D/R Wagon. Purchased it from a friend who builds Porsche race cars in San Dimas, (he had it since 86), took me a year to convince him to let it go, (with the help of his wife). Real good shape, no rust, CA car, needs the usual cosmetic stuff but not bad. 275k on original engine, rebuilt carb about 2 yrs ago, mostly sitting since then. Engine still has great compression, runs very quiet, feels amazingly strong considering mileage. I'm excited! This will be my desert camping/ratpatrol car, as was the 86 Coupe, which I miss badly. OK, it's been a looooooong time since I had my 83 GL, and I don't remember too much about the ea81 quirks. Here's the advice I am looking for: 1. The car has been mostly sitting for a year and a half. I will immediately change out fluids. What else should I immediately do? Fuel filter? Carb cleaner? What fluids do you recommend for ea81's these days? (I do like to use the Marvelous Mystery Oil as additive for tank, tranny and block.) 2. SMOG: I will register the car in a few days, need to pass CA smog. The car passed last time no problems, but still I worry about it. Any pre-smog advice? 3. Preventive stuff and things to check on: I don't see any real leaks or obvious problems, but will give it a once-over to check wheel bearings, hoses, vacuum lines, brakes, etc. Any advice for particular problems to look for and check? What should the oil pressure read at idle and at cruise? 4. Anything else? Thanks guys. Can't wait to get started on the new desertrunner.
  4. If nobody here wants it, I may just try to make a deal on it. He's in my neck of the woods. It's the LAST thing I need right now, though!
  5. Hey, all. I have not been on here much in quite a while, (my son now owns my GL Turbo Coupe) but I saw this thing for sale today, and thought for sure one of you on here would want it to play with...something Subaru you don't see every day: http://www.sellatonce.com/cgi-bin/auction/item.pl?item=26396 Looks to be an old golf cart motor, probably not in great shape, but a fun little project. Subaru go-kart anyone? Mods, if there is a better place for this post, pls move it. I no longer see the marketplace area.
  6. I have not been on here for a long while; been sitting at a hospital in VA for a month with a needy 3 year old boy who developed pneumonia. Anyway I just got back, (he's recovering and will be ok), and felt this strong compulsion to check the board for the first time in a....long time. I'm just south of LA, and I have wheel bearings. I'd have driven up there in a flash to give them to you. I'm sorry I missed this. I hope everything worked out alright. I wish I could have helped.
  7. Oh. I get it now. Just out of curiosity, what exactly are the differences between them?
  8. CalebZ: Have you tried these guys yet for an ECU? They are not so great on price, but they tend to have anything you could need. http://www.subaruworld.com/ Marnix: Did you do the 9.5 min lap with the EA71 car, or the older red Turbo car? Either way, good driving.
  9. Thanks for the new Vids, Marnix....nice. Tell us more about the white car in the Leone video. What model year is it? Turbo? That one is different from the Red Leone in the older Nurb vids. What ever happened to that one? Just curious.
  10. ....because he's listed on one of the Nurburgring lap time boards as having done a 9 min 30 sec lap in a Leone stated at roughly 130hp. That's some pretty respectable driving for a low hp not so light car with soft suspension. I think his first posted times were around 11 min, so he must have gotten in a lot of practice since the first time out. Or it could have been raining that day. It's a tough tough track when it's wet! C'mon Marnix, I wanna hear some Leone tales from the ring!
  11. I finally got them to go thru as zip files. There are 2 vids, each in a sep email. Let me know if they play ok. Enjoy.
  12. One of our email accounts is not letting the file transfer. Strange, cause it's only 3mb. I'm gonna try thru my yahoo acct now.....
  13. I cant send it thru the board email mech. Pls send me your reg email address and I'll do it right away. twilder3@cox.net
  14. I got it from Marnix' old site, it's an incar. I think there were more including out-car, but I cannot find the site anymore. Hopefully he'll come on and tell us where we can find 'em. Meantime, I'll try to email you the one I have, or if someone wants to host it (USMB gallery?) let me know where to email it.
