  1. well, not every part will be a direct fit, but many will. asking beforehand here would be a good idea. and as to why the lower milage AWD, more aerodynamic drag and probibly more weight than the stang. you can try the acetone additive trick and be gentle on the fast pedel.
  2. while this is tru on his manual tranny, the automatics can be made full FWD this way. also the "FWD" fuse holder dosen't make it true fwd, it locks the clutch pack in 90/10 split mode. disconnecting the driveshaft is a useful way to allow towing of any subaru by a normal 2 wheel tow truck.
  3. also, boosting an older high mileage motor that leaks oil is asking for it to blow up. most people who do fully expect the motor to not last too long. if you want more power try just getting a 2.5, if you have one have a full service done, includeing air filter and transmission flush. that should wake it up, and give you a bit more power, and try to trace the leak, if its a valve cover gasket or oil pan gasket it shoulden't be too hard to replace, but if you're blowing the oil past the rings, boosting is the last thing you should do.
  4. I have taken out the second cat and the resonator on my '95 imprezaL 1.8 and the old butt dyno says its got a little more bottom end, i am eventually going to take the other cat and the muffler off and put a flowmaster or similer on(no emissions here). if you open the exaust up it will help low end torque generaly. I also put KYB GR2 struts with Prodrive springs and even 2" lower i rarely bottom out, and i drive on alot of gravel roads and driveways.
  5. I relise awd may not be nessassary, but neither is a bigger motor...awd is cool. But maybe thats just me.
  6. many subaru parts will bolt up, most can be made to fit. FHI used the same basic design for all their cars since the 360, with the exception of the justy. the engine are pretty much interchangeable since the eairly ninties, some not even requireing a ECU change. If i can post this (some fourms are funny about competeing fourms) NASIOC.com is a good resource for simple mods to squeeze a little more power out of it. as for raising the suspension, if you want it lifted go for it, just not my bag. and if it's an auto, espcially if you are going to the desert, ill give the default, any auto tip i am sure you've heard, get a tranny cooler, cheap protection.
  7. ok, i had a front axle pop out on my 95 impreza with an automatic. I was able to drive short distances at low speeds (below 50mph) without any noticeable damage to the center transfercase. note there is no center "differential" in the traditional sense on the older subarus. what I did was click the "manual" button on the shifter in. this, I believe, locks the center transfer clutch in "50/50" yes it will slip, if it seems to slip too much i pulled over and let it cool off. I also shifted into nutural downhill and at stoplights. i drove about 25-30 mi this way, my AWD still works fine and i have no "torque bind" THIS WILL NOT WORK ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION! the 5mt uses a viscous coupleing that will overheat faster and is damaged easier than the 4EATs hydraulic, friction based system. This is my personal experence, i am no expert, do this at your own risk.
  8. I am not so sure the motors are the same. I have heard that before but i have also heard they are different. the later JDM only justys were rebadged Suzuki Swifts, but i think the eariler ones were different animals. I think people assume the eariler ones are the same beacust the later ones are and they were basicly the only 3cyl cars improted to the US.
  9. well, as far as hitting corners hard, as long as it is on asphult you may want to lower the susension. a low COG goes a long way. if you really want to raise it for the off road look you are gonna suffer in the handeling dpt. for efficency, really a good service, includeing flushing the transmission (if it is AT) and oil change to a high quality oil (I reccomend a high milage synthetic or blend) with something like z-max or a seafoam treatment, and a k&n airfilter, will wake the engine and grab you a few HP. and raising the car also adversely affects the milage a bit (though perhaps not noticeabley, hasen't really been studied as the most common lifts are on trucks where they arn't worried about mileage), the more air you allow under the turblant undercarradge, the more drag. most CAIs out there dont work well with MAF based cars, so conferm what you have before installing one. If you want a little more power at the cos of oise you can remove the resonator, I believe it is in the airbox but I could be wrong.
  10. Yeah, my dads '61 MG midget has fender mirrors but my '75 midget has standard door mirrors. I am thinking of converting. also the mention of the Aska, that was a 1st gen legacy clone.
  11. you'll probibly need to upgrade injectors and fuel pump. also i don't know if any body is doing this for justys but a cam regrind would help.
  12. Turbo justys have been done, they make decent power and are lightweight, good for autox. you might even be able to squeeze the motor up front if you wanted to. as I said, in a 360 the onlt viable option for mid engine awd from subaru is the justy tranny. the larger ones are just too long after the axle line. just fashion a chain drive between the rear output shaft and a shaft routed to the front side of the engine and run a drive shaft from there to the front diff.
  13. another option would be a justy 1.2l 3 cyl from a fwd justy turboed, you might even be able to run a chain to a shaft going to a front diff for awd.
  14. I have seen one show car that had a rotary bolted in an impreza, not sure of how they did it. you might concider also going with a subaru motor. they can make 300hp without too much trouble and will have more torque. as for the FWD trany, I don't really know what they will hold up to but it's gotta be more than the VW/Porshe tranny.
  15. You gotta do a TMIC with a WRX scoop. It has been done on the canadian justy with an EJ20G.
  16. if you want to do the front engine option another idea i had would mount the transmision in the rear with a torque tube like the corvette. and, useing a chain or gear drive route the rear output to the front. just a thought. then you would have a rear biased AWD as well. though this would rquire some trick fabrication.
  17. I would still like to see one of these with a justy drivetrain, or maybe an STI 2.5 bolted to a FWD tranny midengine......ok that is a bit much.
  18. And if 4x4 is all you're going for and not the boxer engine the justy has a drive train that would fit MUCH easier though it is a 3cyl. I have heard mention that the Suzuki swift GTi's DOHC 4cyl might either fit or be made to fit the justy tranny, but have never seen it actually done. EDIT: the reason i say this is there is no way a subie engine will fit unless you angle the axles way forward.
  19. most decent machine shops can make custom axles to whatever length you need, they can even make ones to mate different joints. also with the STi you may have to alter the tranny tunnel to fit the 6mt. other than that maybe upgrade to an R180 rear diff.
  20. well than a forester or legacy wagon might be a good bet, impreza wagon is a bit smaller but still has decent storage. Forester is more a tall wagon than the SUV they were going for. really 15k for a clean 2003 is gonna be hard to find.
  21. I found a sweet S/C for this... http://www.axialflow.com/index.htm
  22. Someone needs to make a kit like the one someone made for the EG33, custom manifold with the S/C under and a remounted alternator. or maybe on top huffing through a custom long runner crossover intake...... put it on an EJ22t bolck with STi heads?
