  1. Thanks, Buckette. Now I gotta go to work, The sun is definitly up in Az.
  2. It does come on though when the high beam is hit. Wow fast responce, you must be at work goofing off.
  3. Have an '87 brat. On low beam front left headlight doesn't come on. On High beam it does. What gives? Thanks, Dave in Prescott, Az.
  4. Nice job on the seats. How was the install? I'm in serious need of a new seat.
  5. I was thinking bad gas, until you came up with the hit the steering wheel deal. I just went thru a bad tank and had the same symptoms. It eventually cleared up.
  6. I was driving to home depot last week and some guy pulls up next to me trying to get me to pull over. So I did, he says he has a topper for my brat for free. I drove out to skull valley to pick it up today. I brought him a bottle of quervo for being such an outstanding guy. He works at a dealership and said he was suppose to dump it but couldn't. It is in very nice condition, maroon, with a factory install thule rack. I have to clean it up before I install, and I will probably only keep it on for a while, just to see how it looks. Dave in Prescott '78,'87 brats.
  7. Looks good, I bet even for flag, that is rare. I used to have a '78 wagon. Now I have a '78 and '87 brat. Nice to see the snow eh?. We only got a couple of inches down here. Dave, in Prescott.

    EA81 VS sammy?

You can't beat having the bed... on the brat. I am a carpenter and have used the brat for years for my daily driver. Sixteen footers are not a problem, just wish I had the low roll bar for it. '78, '87 brats dave
  9. thanks for the tips. And Murphy does rule. I went out today and tried it. It turned, and I was able to start it and get it home. I am still going to order a new one, and be done. with it. Good luck with yours, dp.
  10. I have a locksmith looking for a replacement cylinder now. Didn't look good this afternoon. I got the steering wheel to unlock, but that is about it.
  11. Hi, I am going through the typical problem inherent with many of our older subys. The ignition is stuck on my '87 brat. I tried to search this forum but haven't seen anything applicable. I know I have read of other people addressing this before. Any idea on what wording I should have used in my search. I have found a locksmith that may have a new tumbler set up, and want to review what techniqes I need to get the old one out. Thanks, Dave.
  12. On my '78 whoever installed the lift, welded two new stubs for the shocks to the back of the drum, about one inch higher.
  13. I liked Austin, just vacationed there for four days. Real good local music scene, college town feel, lots of good lookin women, plenty of water. Felt like a small town grown big.
  14. I had a gas leak smell coming from my '78 brat. I just happened to see a drip coming from the right rear quarter panel one day. Appearently there is some vent tubing inside the wheel well that had come undone, I found the end and daylighted it to the outside. The smell came from gas acccumulating inside the well. Probably not the right fix, but it took care of the odor.
  15. A friend of mine recently replaced the alt. in his brat, without disconnecting the battery. Ended up frying the fusable link. Car wouldn't start but would turn over. When it was turning over it showed all the warning lights.
  16. '87 brat The drivers side wiper blade rotates to far to the left and gets worn out too fast. But it looks like if I tried to clock the mounting over a little, it would hit on the down hill side. Anyone have a fix?
  17. This thread may help me fix a problem I have had in my '78 lifted brat. It developed a clunk in the front end. I went the replacement route to find out what was wrong with it. So eventually I have replaced most of the front end. Didn't fix the problem. Jerry (bratrus, I think) thought it might be the coupler just barely hitting as it turned. As things worked out I never got around to addressing it. Now with a little motivation I'll have another look at it. Just to describe the problem, while driving the car the steering wheel would lock up, and I'd have to muscle it past the tight spot. Not good. It didn't do it all the time, but enough for me to make it take a time out. I'll have a look at the coupler. thanks, dp
  18. I am guilty of procratination, and am fairly computer illiterate. I knew when I posted about my '78 I would get some requests. I'll try to get it together to get some pics. It has the 3" lift, 14" rims (style unknown), weber, kn filter, nice custom push bar on the front, and the low style roll bar. Unrusted Az car. I put a japanese low mile hydro lifter engine in it (1600), and drove the wheels off it for several years. It developed a bind in the steering and was parked. I drive a '87 brat for daily transportation. I have the fat case bell housing and would like to put the dual range tranny in it. Many people think I should up to the 1800, but I like the stock arrangement for now.
  19. I have a lift on my '78 brat (off the road right now). Someone had welded a new shock mount on the back wheel about an inch higher that stock. Also I think they clocked the torsion bar to get lift on the rear. Alum blocks on the front.
  20. Did you take the air cleaner off when working on it? May have not reconnected all the vac lines.
  21. Brat does have a/c And yes it lites up when pedal is depressed. I guess first order is to get the engine to idle on it's own. Then proceed to the weird dash light situation. Thanks for the thoughts, I'll post as I figure out more. Dave.
  22. Will try the kick down switch. If replacing the filters doesn't help (can't hurt) we are going to switch pumps with my '87 brat. Trouble shooting varied symtoms is tough. Thanks
  23. Looking at buying an '84 brat with auto tranny. I owned this brat a couple of years ago, now my son needs a cheap drive about. It has sat for a few months, p.o. said it needed an alternator . He installed one today, we threw in a battery. Heres where the trouble shooting comes in. It won't idle so you have to keep feathering the gas. I suspect fuel filters first. We will do that tomorrow. Here's the weird part. With the key on, when you hit the accelerator, the trouble lights come on, and off, relative to hitting the petal (without the engine running) I don't remember it doing that. Is it tied somehow to being an automatic? It seems to have trouble getting gas, so we will do the filters, but I seem to remember that the brats fuel pump is tied into the alternator. If it has a hard time runnning would the alternator not be jucing the fuel pump enough? Thanks, any suggestions or questions would be appreciated. Dave
