  1. Have you ever done a Chrysler slant-six? The filter is vertical, with the opening AT THE BOTTOM!!!!!!
  2. I got some silicone PIAA's from TireRack.com. Best I've ever used. They stay flexible and seem to add a silicone coating kinda like Rain-X.
  3. My 97 Legacy (auto) sometimes doesn't engage. If I hold the paddle switch for a few seconds, I can usually hear/feel it engage. Same for cancel/accelerate. Usually happens in cold weather. I don't know what's happening either.
  4. I had a problem with mine (97 Legacy) driving in the South Dakota "breeze" - the sides "flopped" against the paint (had the little tape thingies on) 'cause the plastic clips kept slipping off the hood. Bought some small (4-48) screws and a tap and screwed the clips to the hood. No more flopping.
  5. I'm working on my 4th bug/wind deflector (plastic) on my Legacy. Every time a semi passes, the end clips pull off and the thing starts flapping and whacking on the paint. The clips seem too short. Any suggestions? Glue? "Safety" wiring?
  6. I've got a 97 Legacy L (2.2) with 128K and I love it. No mechanical problems whatever. I've changed timing belts at 60K intervals, changed water pump at last belt change, and run Mobile 1. It had one recall (alternator) that dealer took care of (Courtesy Subaru in Rapid City---EXCELLENT service!!!). No rust (it stays outside 24/7) even during SD winters. Average gas mileage (I track it with a spreadsheet) of 26mpg.
  7. Me too! We really enjoy our '97 Legacy L wagon. 125K. No unscheduled maintenance. 25-30mpg. NEVER get stuck in the snow! Great car.
  8. Hella makes a GREAT horn and it comes with wiring diagram/relay. It's been posted here several times. That's how I found out. Go to Susquehanna (sp?) Motorsports. It's about $65.
  9. What about Valvoline synthetic? I'm considering the switch in my '97 legacy (115K). Are Valvoline/Mobile 1 the same? Comparable? I've used Valvoline 5W-30 dino up to now.
  10. I'm looking at replacing the gear oil in the axles of my '97 Legacy wagon (108K) with synthetic. South Dakota gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Any potential problems like leaking seals, etc?
  11. I put Silver Star's in about 6 months ago and am very pleased. Much whiter and brighter.
  12. My 97 Legacy has a plastic bracket (about 2 in wide by the length of the plate) that attaches to the plastic "bumper" wih two expandable plugs. When I attach my plate (using my own SS screws) through the plugs, it expands and holds it to the "bumper." As far as I can tell, there's nothing behind the bumper. It's held up well for me--even through car wash brushes!
  13. Dave, I've got a Fumoto valve on my '97 Legacy (2.2;) no barb and it doesn't hang any lower. Sure makes oil changes easier! Mark
