  1. no clue...I pulled it the other day to check the level and the tip was missing. guess I'll look under for an oil pan...never thought about it...my old VW didn't have one.
  2. I need a dipstick....mine broke it's tip at one of the tiny holes at the end... The tip is somewhere in the bottom of the block but given the engine block design I don't think it can be recovered without splitting the block...I don't think any damage will occur since the oil pump pickup should have a screen. I'm searching for a dipstick and need to know what all is compatible...any EA-81 dipstick? Get a universal dipstick...if so what length was the original and where are the high & low marks on the OEM dipstick?
  3. a unique vehicle with good utility value...getting quite scarce, more so in clean condition...simple, reliable, parts availability still good... if clean and rust free...yes, worth that to the right person... consider it's often cheaper to pay top dollar for a clean example than to buy a restoration project and fix 30 years of neglect... rust & body repair knows no $$$ limit
  4. hmmm...pictures or schematic would help greatly...I'll have to look at the head & exhaust pipe more closely... or am I just visualizing this all wrong..
  5. what is this spacer thing? All I've noticed is the Y pipe bolt directly to the head.. Never seen anything between the two...I thought the Y pipe was the exhaust manifold.
  6. what is the deal with the exhaust manifold gaskets? I can't seem to get them to last more than a day before they start leaking... the only think I can figure is that the size of the exhaust port and the size of the flange on the pipe are not matched very well. It seems the ports are smaller that the pipe flange...they have a little over lap but not much so I'm not getting a solid seal.... is it possible the Y pipe is not correct and is off another model Subie?
  7. sweet...living in Cali must be tough with an old car...can't believe it's not exempt. can you get classic plates or something like that that exempts you?
  8. can you post some detailed pics of the bed seat mounting? I would like to convert mine to bolt-in as well.
  9. I stuck some Polk Audio 6x9s in pre-fab boxes and stuck them behind the seats...plenty loud but I must admit, the imaging leaves a lot to be desired, it's all rear. They really over power the door and dash speakers... is there an easy way to move the door speakers forward?
  10. I wouldn't either if it was mine. I suggest you suck it up if you want a nice Brat. Your gonna be pissed as soon as someong else picks it up. is the inside as nice as the outside? your own words from your original post....."I have seen these sell for 9 grand."
  11. polyproplene(PP) based material was my guess...strong but flexible...resistant to solvents, paints, etc...difficult to glue...most epoxies state "not recommended for polypropylene" I'll check out the HF thing...
  12. the rust you describe sounds pretty extensive...what is not rusted is probably soon to be next I imagine....sounds like a money pit to me...unless you need a "parts brat" or just a "beater" brat...
  13. interior and under hood pics would be nice. Both are good deals IMHO...I'm surprised he's willing to drop to 3K on a clean looking brat....well is does seems that most of the Brats are up in the Northwest region so rarity is not the issue it is elsewhere. Quality will be remembered long after price is forgotten "Levi Straus"....buy the best condition one, most complete, most original, most rust free.....saving $500 on getting the ugly sister will not sit well with you in a months time...if even that long
