  1. Hey im in mobile and my outboard was stolen just before hunting season and im thinking of converting my boat to a inboard mudboat and need some advice thanks lee

  2. I know the 32/36 Weber is not smog legal. All emmissions equip is plugged or bypassed with the Weber.. It wont pass...
  3. I have a Samurai also and thought about this at one time. I know you'd have trouble trying to fit an opposing cyl. engine between the frame rails. I thought about an EA81 or EA82, took a few measurements and abandoned the idea. The valve covers would stick through the fender wells.
  4. Sounds like a carb rebuild is needed to me... Every time I had fuel related issues in a soob, I had the carb rebuilt at a reliable shop. Fixed the problem every time..
  5. It seems high, but I'd give between 5 and 6 grand for that one, especially with only 66K miles and in such really nice condition.. Heck, I recently paid $5 grand for a 87 Samurai with 3 times the miles, but everything on the truck was mint... I'd say it's worth the money as a classic in that condition..
  6. The first problem is getting the bolt out of the block. Good luck with the drilling. I recently drilled a broken exhaust stud out of a head and used a Heli-coil to fix it back up. For a head stud, you may want to talk to a machine shop and have them make you what's called a "step stud" (larger on one end).. You can tap the block to a larger diameter install the new stud. I've used a few of them before and they work well.
  7. I just went to a local marine store the other day and spent $14 for a Teleflex sending unit and $22 for a Teleflex gauge. I tapped out the sending unit port to 3/8", screwed it in, ran a wire to the gauge and hooked it up with the ignition wire and ground.. Works like a champ plus it's completely weather proof.. Of course my EA81 engine is in a boat..
  8. I had one leaking on a Chevy pickup of mine a while back. Called a fuel pump pulsator, or dampener... The guy in parts told me to take it out and splice the hose with a coupler.. I took it out... No change noticed in anything.. My recommendation: Take it off and leave it off... Spend a few bucks on a hose coupler and a couple of new clamps and be done with it..
  9. What bike did the front end come from? And is the frame your own design, a kit or a manufactured frame? Beautiful trike...
  10. Looking at the pictures from you EA82 Weber job, it looks like the intake throat and adapter bores were mis-matched as well. In your case, the intake bore looked a little smaller, whereas my EA81 adapter plate bore was smaller? I believe I would have taken the intake and milled the bore to match the adapter bore. Don't really know if it matters or not.. I'm sort of funny about things that don't quite fit perfect.. In all, good job with the hoses and stuff. Looks really clean under the hood.
  11. I didn't need to use the linkage kit that came with the carb. I took the linkage off of the Hitachi and it fit perfectly on the Weber throttle shaft, as well as lined up with the cable.
  12. I agree that the Redline adapter is not as well made as some others may be. My Redline adapter lined up with the intake and carb bolt holes perfectly, but that's about as good as it gets. The adapter bore didn't match the intake throat bore very well. It over lapped in one spot and and looked more restrictive than the intake itself. I took it to my machinist buddy and he milled and beveled the bore to fit the intake throat perfectly.. If you buy a Redline, you should expect to have the bore milled a little bit to get a perfect matchup with the intake.
  13. Here's a link to a pdf EA81 engine manual. Covers everything you need for a rebuild.. Takes a few minutes to download the zip file, then opens as a pdf that you can print or save.. http://www.ch601.org/engines/files/SubaruEA81-ServiceManual.zip
  14. I had the valve cover off on the #1 side and the head off on the opposite side. When the piston opposite was at TDC, I checked to make sure that both valves on the #1 cylinder were closed. I installed the distributor with the rotor facing the #1 position. I have both heads off right now and brought them to a machine shop to get the exhaust stud threads drilled and tapped and to have a pretture test done before I slap them back on.. Thanks...
  15. I'm putting my EA71 back together. I have an electronic disty off of an EA81. I need to know how to stab it in there where the gears are lined up properly. Another words, what cylinder should be TDC and stuff like that. Anyone have a quick procedure?
