They were $175 per... I didnt mind paying the money cuz they are so hard to find....especially rebuilt and thouroughly tested. They were very well treated heads. I ordered them on ebay and had them in my posession within 5 days. I have all of the other items needed to put the motor back together except a good spider, but I may be able to put a new flare on the end that is broken. As long as I have enough room to keep the compression fitting out of the way.

Hello everyone. I am looking to buy the air injection tubing (spider) for my 78' BRAT. When I took my motor out I discovered that one of the flares had broken off. I have a feeling it will be tough to re-flare the tube due to space for the compression fitting. Please let me know if you have one you are willing to part with or if you know anyone that has one. Thank you!

I am trying to decide...at a closer look it seems there are cracks in between the exhaust and intake valve seats on that head as well.

These are the original starter and alternator/generator. They worked perfectly fine before I tore the motor out so I figured I would just give them a makeover for reinstallation.

Here are some pics of a little more progess in the engine bay. Still trying to find heads to complete the motor at this time. If anyone has any leads on a set please let me know. Thanks ahead of time...

2 Brat's, sitting, possible parts cars

If they are 1st GEN, I am in desperate need of the black triangle trim pieces between the bed and the doors. -
I am trying to get everything cleaned up while I am still looking for replacement cylinder heads (one of mine is cracked ) I decided to go with bedliner in the engine bay. I think the gloss black and clean aluminum is gonna pop under the hood!

Ok...I wonder how much shipping would be. Do you think I would just have to remove the valves and clean them up, or would you reccomend I replace them all together? Which side is it? I need the passenger side head. I would rather replace both sides, but if I can replace the cracked passenger side head I would be happy for now.

Still no luck. I'm happy you have some and I will definitely keep you in mind, but I am desperately trying to get some sooner rather than later. I am at a standstill with my BRAT (other than small detail stuff) without good heads. If only I had kept the 79 BRAT when I joined the military I wouldnt be in this situation. Oh well....the search continues.

I tried bidding, but whomever was bidding as well had an automatic bid set with a reserve that was higher than I was able to get too. Everytime I bid their bid would trump mine by a dollar. The company listed on NAPA's website for cylinder heads is Moore's Cylinder Head. The same company is listed on all of the other autoparts store websites. I called the company and the cylinder heads for the 1600 are discontinued. I met a guy yesterday from Advanced Auto that said he uses a lot of outside vendors and he wants me to give him a call tomorrow. I doubt his vendors will have anything, but its worth a shot.

This is the diagram on my 78 BRAT hood... maybe it'll help you out a little. I'm sure there are better diagrams out there. Did you look in a Haynes manual?

I finally started pulling the motor for a rebuild. Here are a couple of pics before the tear-down. The motor has 85k miles, but it sat for 18 years in a garage. Time for some TLC.

I definitely think they have different paint. Mine were a pain....couldnt even sandblast without stripping first.
