I am a brand new Subaru owner, I am in the process of getting my very first Subaru in working condition. I love the way a Subaru sounds and feels and preforms. They are like little watches and I think that it is wonderful

  1. Okay so my fiances dad just recently pulled the power steering pump to replace all the seals and o rings. Could improper installation or a shoddy part have failed and cactused the timing belt?
  2. Okay so I lost the previous thread but I am still scratching my head on my fiances 1997 subaru legacy wagon. It is an L model and one night driving home from work it just died. It just shut off no lights no warning no rattles or anything it just cut out. The she restarted it and now it rattles and has trouble running. We haven't driven it so I don't have codes yet. It was throwing an evap code the day before the accident but I don't know if that means much. I also included an audio clip of the noise it makes when running.
  3. Okay, so I will work on getting video, but it is a recently rebuilt L model, he said there was like no oil in it but when I checked it, it looked about half full so I really don't know but I think once I figure out this idling issue on my car I will start running more diagnostics. How should I check the fuel delivery?
  4. The oil was not visible, but the car makes a thumping chuffing (I guess) and it slowly idles down till it dies, also it was throwing an evap code before the incident but we haven't gotten it check since then
  5. So my fiance owns a legacy L and she ran into some trouble the other day. she left work just like normal and then about two or three miles down the road her car just shut off. When she started it again it made a sound like it wasn't running on all cylinders. It starts but idles really rough and slowly loses speed until it shuts off. Her dad has decided that he should replace the engine because there was very little oil in it and he thinks she broke a cam lobe. I don't know if I agree with his decision but he has decided to here in a little while replace her engine which seems a bit on the drastic side. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do so we don't have to replace the entire engine?
  6. I don't know what they did with it. They said they lost it and now I can't eveb contact them
  7. My 1996 subaru impreza recently went in to have a cv axle changed. I got it back unfinished and where I took it is closed for the rest of the week but it is missing the stub shaft that comes out of the transmission (I think I really don't know what to call it) but I can't find one anywhere and I need to leave the state in a few days. Please does anyone know another name for this part or somewhere I can order one. Or even if you are in the Oklahoma Texas area and have a 96 impreza for parts or know anyone who does. PS I included what it should look like when the one that needs to be in there is in there but that splined shaft is missing.
  8. So I just got this 1996 subaru impreza, and I can't get it to start. It runs on starter fluid fine and we aren't getting any sort of fuel out of the fuel line. I pulled the fuel pump tonight and I was curious if I could bench test it somehow? It looks pretty bad it is covered in rust but it might still be good. Also if anybody knows any weak points in the fuel system that would warrant looking at I would appreciate it. I am fairly new to this and so I am trying to learn as I go. (note: if there is any way of checking the relays wthout having to pull them out of the car or maybe the easiest way to pull one out.)
