  1. I have above stated car with a growl while driving. It sounds at times to be coming from front at certain speeds, occasionally it seems like it's coming from the back. Noise seems like it's on right side of vehicle I jacked up vehicle and checked all wheels for play-nothing in any wheel. I then spun each wheel listening and then trying to feel any notchiness in bearings, again nothing. All I hear is slight brake rub RR bearings replaced about 2 years ago with Moog bearings Noise has gotten worse in last few weeks so I assumed wheels would give away which is bad but still not a clue. Tires are relatively new and I ran my hand over them feeling for feathering, they seem fine. Noise is worse between 30 to about 50 mph but still heard above 65. No binding noise or banging in parking lot so I don't think it's viscous coupler like my old outback. Car is a 5 speed MT Car has about 250k miles but is well cared for and gets serviced either by me or mechanic. Not sure really where to go from here
  2. 03 Outback wagon, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 172k miles. Car threw CEL a few weeks ago, 519 code. Preheat circuit Air/Fuel sensor. Was original Air/fuel unit so decided to replace with OEM Denso upstream unit. All good for a day or so then light comes back on. at this point Called Mechanic and he wanted to look at it. He checked out the obvious things, bad connections etc in engine bay then called Diagnostic service(Intellifix I think). He ran through some diagnostics with them and was told ECU was bad, replaced it with OEM used unit. Good for a few starts then CEL is back on. Checks out old O2 sensor and new unit for resistance, both units are between 1.8 and 2.3 ohms. Seems low. Calls local Subaru master tech and was told within specs, even gets a third unit to check, same readings. Mech suspects bad power to unit, maybe bad wire or relay. runs jumper to unswitched source. Car good for a few starts then CEL. Checks voltage to sensor from ECU- runs within specs then spikes- tripping CEL. At this point I have spent time and money diagnosing with no resolution in sight, Mech gave up even after having car for a week and doing additional checks free of charge- just trying to fix it for his own edification. Car runs well but won't pass emissions at this point I either fix it or send it to junkyard for parts. Was hoping for Subaru or experienced tech to give some insight. Anyone have any ideas? I have about a month before car is out of time.Car is back in my possession, I can do some checks here, both electrical or mechanical. Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Eric
  3. Ok, so read a ton on torque bind and not sure if it's what I'm experiencing. First off car is 2003 Outback, 5 spd Manual, 130k miles. During slow cornering like in parking lots I get a rumble and bit of a bind sensation, driving straight i get nothing. Happens both left and right turns The rumble sounds like it could be in rear or center of car. I just changed rear diff oil with Royal Purple SynBlend 75w-90 GL-5 with friction reducer and there is no difference. Both front driveshafts are new-ish and tires are all same brand and mileage. Transmission oil is full and clean, don't know when it was changed. I've had car for three years but not a daily driver. Should I change transmission oil? Is center diff oil part of transmission oil like front diff? What options do I have? I've heard it's rare for MT to have torque bind issues,is this true? Thanks in advance, Eric
