I just moved up to Tacoma from Houston and I needed a car... I heard Subaru made a good car, ( not very common in Texas).. So here I am.

  1. I had a similar issue a few years back in my 87... Make sure your timing belt tensioner (both for good measure) isnt loose... Good luck :-)
  2. I75eya, Ive read up on that method briefly, that is an alternative to pulling the motor, although what about the rear main seal and the oil pan? Lemme ask you this. how much does the ea82 engine, i guess you'd call it a short block, weigh? Also my car has a lift on it... I;m assuming its either a 3-4 inch lift on account that the crossmembers, and the mustache bar all have spacers. There also wasnt a pitching rod on the motor, hence the reason my TOB needs replacing in the first place. I have since found a rod and mounting bracket and i will be getting a 2in extension on the pitching rod. SO basically what i'm asking is this, could a buddy and i lift the motor out of the car via 4 bicycle hooks and tow straps in his garage and then place say 3 2x4s on the fenders and then work on everything from there? Would ther be an issue of 'touch' getting the motor lined up with the trans upon reassembly? Thx Nic
  3. Hello, I really don 't know if I'm in the right area to make a post like this, my apologies if I am. SO today I'm gonna replace my clutch, PP, and TOB, and I figure while I was at it, Id do the front and rear main seals, as well as the cam tower seals, and reseal the oil pan... Thing is, I dont have a cherry picker, or engine hoist... Does anyone have a recommendation for a substitute, or maybe one I could use? Thanks in advance for any help-advice Nic
  4. Omar, when you speak of the front main seal, are you referring to the crankshaft seal?
  5. Omar, thanks for clarifying the oil pan inquiry, and my bad on the clips for the clutch question, I meant the clips for the throw out bearing, but I think Ive found the parts. The Part number is 30539AA000. DaveT Thanks for the info on RTV. Ive just placed my order for an Exedy 15008 Clutch kit as well as two throw out bearing clips. Also I heard there is an seal or two that I may wanna have replaced something about the rear, something or another??? thanks Nic
  6. Okay... my roo doesnt leak oil... yet. there isnt any oil under the car, but I can see oil 'sweating' or mild seepage from the cam tower seals area, as well as from the oil pan area.... other than that the cam covers etc are dry and clean... or not oily, and as I said, there isnt any oil drops under my car whatsoever. So I planned to do both the oil pan gasket and the cam tower gaskets while the motor is out. I read that when you do a clutch replacement to get the kit and some mention of these little clips. Does anyone have a part number for these little clips seeing as they do not come in the clutch kit? Also what is RTV? A sealant of some sort? I plan on purchasing en Exedy 15008 clutch kit, I'm assuming thats the right kit. Also Subasaurus, you mentioned getting the flywheel resurfaced? where do I go to have that done? turbosubarubrat, are you talking of replacing the oil pan gasket with a new oil pan gasket and this RTV stuff, or just the RTV stuff? Thanks for all you guys advice.
  7. Aaron Thanks for the Idea on the thread creation idea. I will definitely do the oil pan seal as well as the cam tower seals... maybe the crank shaft seal too. And I will keep you updated on my progress !
  8. So Ive bought a lifted 88 Roo with whast I believe is a 4 inch lift on it (3 body, 1 in suspension) and Im going to have to replace the clutch. While i have the heat of the beast out, does any one have any PM ideas that I should do. Thx Nic
  9. Two85s, Thanks for the link and the advice. Before I purchase the rear main seal, what brand do you recommend? I plan on doing the cam seals... it not exactly leaking oil, but it seems tol be 'sweating' oil like its the beginning to start to develope a leak. Im also gonna check the the timing belts and tensioners and probably go ahead and remove the covers. Sure you get less milage on you timing belts, but it takes me 45 mins to do a timing belt job as opposed to 3-4 hours! Any other advice? Thanks.
  10. Skylar, yo thanks for the info... Sometimes it just takes someone to tell you how to do something rather than read an over detailed (or under detailed in some cases) manual to set the mind at ease and take care of business. I was thinking of taking her down to Tacoma to do the job on account that my cousin lives there in the north side, and even though he doesnt know jack about auto repair, he is another set of arms, not to mention a cool cerveza to reward myself with after the job is complete. :-D But I'll probably do the clutch replacement here in seattle though, just in case, id rather not risk another Roo to the towing company. Nisquaslly Towing got my 87... long sad story...BTW nice hatch, what all have you done to her? I really like their fron ends as well as their super short wheelbase and minimal angle of ascent and descent.
  11. Hello, so lemme start out by saying thanks for all the good info I have received from this site. Truly amazing. My problem is I recently purchased an 88 gl 4wd with a, what i believe to be a 4 inch lift (3inch body, one suspension) based on the 3 in spacers on virtually every component under the car. It has a rebuilt 93 loyal motor in it and, ready for this, doesn't leak oil! The only thing that was gonna be an issue when I bought it was that I knew I was gonna need a new clutch, which is sooner than later. Then I noticed that the car was lacking the pitch stopper bar that was in my 87. After research I found that I will need to fabricate one, but seeing as I haven't a clue on how to weld, and I dont have a pitch stopper bar, I figured Id ask if anyone out there has the ability to weld, as well as maybe an extra pitch stopper bar that they would consider selling me. Also I've gotta do a clutch replacement STAT, I was curious if anyone in the S. Seattle area has a cherry picker i could use, or knows where I can rent one. I've also never done a clutch job before, but I've done timing belts, cam o'ring seals, fuel pump, disty, oil pump, wheel bearing (front) to these cars. I've just never been clutch deep in a car before. ANy tips etc before I start this task, Probably in a week or two. Thanks Heres a couple of pic of my Roo
