  1. I just did a 3" strut lift (front & back) with 2" drop blocks for the engine, tranny and rear diff. I had to extend the steering shaft by 1.3". To extend the steering shaft: Remove the shaft. Scribe a line across the middle section to ensure the shaft goes back together in the correct orientation after cutting it in half and welding it back together with the extension. cut it in half at the center weld. cut a piece of bar or pipe to the desired length (I turned down the ends of the extension on a lathe so the extension slipped into the cut halfs of the steering shaft). Weld it in place (make sure you dunk it in water as you weld as the temps from welding are not good for the rubber seals in the steering shaft) making sure the lines you scribed previously line up. Install.
  2. Good morning all, Thanks for all the information. I rotated the bottom plate, so it is parallel with the frame. I also increased the angle to 17°. Attached is the updated drawing reflecting the changes please let me know how it looks? I plan on building the lift components on Friday and installing them this weekend. I will take pictures and continue to update this thread. Does any one know the dimensions of the angled pieces that drop the rear struts (picture above)? I would like to draw up the rest of the components (rear strut brackets and frame spacers), so myself and future members can have the information at their finger tips. Gloyale, I measured the distance of the holes they are all 4.85 apart. The 4.2 dimension is a rise distance not an aligned distance between holes (please see the attached drawing).
  3. that makes sense, I thought they were offset for ease of installing the bolts, but I could be wrong...I haven't installed a lift yet. I am in the process of measuring, modeling and drafting and then some fabing. Just want the experts to look over the prints first. I am willing to draft it all up and have it publicly available to whomever.... Thanks, Lewis
  4. Good afternoon All, I have been looking around for specific dimensions of strut towers for a lift (3"). I haven't found much, and I have asked a few people which went no where. So here it is, I did some measuring, modeling, and drafting and this is what I came up with. Please let me know how I did? If I need to make changes let me know... Best, Lewis
  5. Alternative part number for belleville washer: Dorman spindle washer 618-066
  6. Good morning all, Does anyone know the part number for the FWD manual transmission that goes into a 1989 Subaru GL wagon? I attached a picture of a transmission that is thought to be for my car but I want to make sure. The number that is hard to read is TM70F5A2AT-AK thanks, Lewis
  7. Ah I c, so I could use my stock rims and not drill out the hubs paired with the tires you suggested above?
  8. Thanks I really appreciate the advice! When you say stock offset rims. Do you mean stock wheels with spacers or? If so, do you know a good place to get some?
  9. Good afternoon all, I have a 1989 Subaru GL wagon (EA82) that I will be lifting 2". I am looking for recommendations for rims & tires. I will also be drilling out my hubs to the toyota 6 bolt pattern. Any favorites for big tires and rims (size, brand, etc) that have the off-road look and feel without sacrificing street handling. I will most likely be driving to work (20 mi) with this car. Any input/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Cost is always king I am not looking to sell my kidneys to fund this build but I understand it will take some coin. Thanks, Lewis
  10. **UPDATE** The issue causing the problem was a bad coil. I had previously replaced all the maintenance/tune-up items which did not solve the problem. Replacing the coil was the ticket...
  11. Good morning all, I just purchased a 1989 Subaru GL wagon. I have been having some problems accelerating. Sometimes while driving I step on the throttle and the engine seems to bog down. it is similar to when you are in too high of a gear and try to accelerate hard. The difference is when I step on the throttle the car actually goes slower and slower instead of faster. When this first happened I pulled over turned the car off. I started it back up, and it ran fine for awhile. The same problem has come back randomly. Any help on this would be great! Thanks, Lewis
