  1. Thanks for all of your replies. I have another guestion. I also notice that the front differential oil is low half way between the full and add marks. My question is..is there any way the gear oil can enter the auto trans?
  2. I noticed on my 2006 forester with a little over 6000 miles the auto trans fluid was overfilled. So I drew out about 1/2 qt of fluid out of the dipstick tube. The fluid was dark brown almost black in color and smelled burnt. The owners manual calls for subaru type -hp or pennzoil atf J is this a characteristic of this type of fluid or is the trans on it's way out .BTW the trans shifts up and down smoothly
  3. My 2006 forester engine started but the shift leaver would not move out of park. Then I turned off engine and when I went to restart it I could not turn the key. I called Roadside Assitance who advised me on how to unjam the ignition switch (press brake pedal; try turning key in igniton while rocking steering wheel). The car started and I was able to shift from Park but now when I turn the ignition off, the steering wheel does not lock. Is there a chance the steering will lock while I am driving???
