  1. 05 forester xt manual. I got a slight clunk that recurs every couple seconds or so when the a/c is on. Then I noticed about one third of my a/c belt was chewed up and wrapped around the backside of the compressor pulley. I cut the belt off which was about 3-4 years old and the a/c compressor pulley spins nice and smooth with no play but the clutch is very stiff/drags and not smooth at all in either direction. But I also noticed the idler/ tensioner pulley has a bit of play as well. I'm assuming I'll need to replace the idler pulley but what about the compressor?...From what I read the a/c clutch is not a serviceable part. The crank pulley/harmonic balancer has no visible play or separation. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Looking at buying a 1995 legacy L wagon auto trans. It has 213,000 on it and had the timing set, idler pulley, water pump, thermostat, battery and head gaskets done at 190,000. Engine codes are o2 sensor, and speed sensor. It drives without any noticeable vibration, and idles super smooth until you shift to drive and remain at a stop. It also has a very slight hard shift from first to second. I forgot to look at the driveline mounts (namely trans mount) but it has a driver's side cv joint clicking pretty bad, and ive read plenty of posts about the very same idle issue after cv joint replacement with sub standard half shafts. So i thought maybe that the bad cv joint would be causing the rough idle, and the bad speed sensor is causing the hard shift. Any opinions? Thanks in advance.
  3. i was just wondering if anybody has a mudrat tube bumper or something similar hanging around? my brother just got a new mandrel bender, and im itching to fab up an o/r bumper for my forester. im curious to know what size tubing mudrat79 used. Looks like the perfect diameter because of course weight is always a concern. And ive looked for some kind of reviews of his stuff that describes the weight and material used...but found nothing. I've got a ton of 1.25 schedule 40 and 80 seamless that I've built some truck bumpers, cages and misc. things out of, but i think its probably a little too heavy. So any advice or experience with the mudrats bumpers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. I have been looking at getting into a forester and found exactly what I was looking for but need some advice. The car I found in Wisconsin is a manual 05 with 117,000 miles but has a laundry list of new parts. the seller says In the last 5k miles it had a brand new motor put in. Receipts inluded. Eagle Rods, CP Pistons, ARP head studs and Cometic gaskets. All new timing components along with water and oil pumps. Iridium spark plugs. It is built to handle 550+ awhp. New pads and rotors all around, new front wheel bearings and tie rods. Clutch and turbo have less than 10k miles on them. TGV deletes. 17lbs on pump gas 10.5:1 compression 250-275 awhp range. Newer oversized meaty snow/ice tires. Weather tech floor matts front and rear. OEM subaru cargo nets for rear compartment. Roof Rack and high power LED bar. AUX cable wired into factory deck. Will inlude touch screen navigation/ bluetooth double din dvd player and alarm with remote start for the asking price which is $14,500. I realize this guy dropped a bunch of cash on a rebuild, but the price seems a few grand too much, and personality I dont need an alarm or a touchscreen or remote start. Im just wondering if I should shoot this guy an offer and what a good starting price would be...minus all the electronics I dont need. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
