  1. In the Pacific Northwest, Subaru's are worth their weight in gold to most drivers there. While the lack of 4WD will hurt the value, it wouldn't be impossible for someone to make the conversion over to 4WD if they could find a donor car with the right parts and if there were ever a place to find them it would certainly be in WA State. That being said, just to give you a rough estimate on the value of the car as it is now I would place it somewhere in the 2k to 2.5k range based on the mileage and the features of the car. I am painfully familiar with this estimate because I had to total out my FWD 86' Hatch last week to the insurance company compliments of a hit and run with a drunk driver. They're cutting me a check for $1,233 and factored in the age and condition of the vehicle which was near mint and the mileage which was actually a little less if not the same as yours. What they didn't factor in was all the work I had recently done to the vehicle such as new tires, new brakes, tune ups, oil change...etc. So if everything is as you say, especially considering the interior and headliner, set the asking price for around 3.5k or even 4k and that should give you some haggle room. However, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT accept anything less than 2k to 2.5k as your bottom line. If it's a 5 Speed, that means that the engine should be the same size that was put into the brats for that model year as well as a few more after it. Often times guys will buy those cars just to pull the engine out of to transplant into another project car. Don't just give away something as valuable as that vehicle for mere peanuts. Hell, if I wasn't located on the East Coast I would buy it from you in a heartbeat, especially given the family history. I planned on keeping my hatch until the end of days, but fate took that decision out of my hands. I've had two Subies totaled while I owned them and neither occasion was my fault. However, I find myself standing 2-0 with death because of the safety and reliability of these vehicles and you are indeed blessed to have had so many years and memories with that car. Now I suppose it's time for someone else to make new ones.
  2. The package tray I can get to you easy enough. I actually pulled it out of a GL model I found in a junkyard and the mount and fit should be universal. I'll have to double check on the trim under the steering given that I might have removed it once for repairs and put it somewhere, but I should have it. With the radio surround, are you looking for the whole assembly including the radio and tape deck or just the housing surrounding it? I'll take a look at the glove box door to make sure it is in good shape before I would sell it to you. The fenders are intact, but the one on the driver's side is dented in a little from the accident, but that could easily be hammered out once you get your hands on it.
  3. The tape deck is indeed stock and other than a light cleaning of the heads, plays great. I was looking to upgrade to a modern sound system, but never got around to it. In regard to the door sill caps they should be there and original, but just to play safe could you send me some reference images just to make sure we are both talking about the same thing and are on the same page?
  4. It still hurts I assure you. Yes, the interior is in fact grey but just as a disclaimer the dash has some cracks and the seats are not in the very best of shape if that's what you're inquiring about. The interior on the insides of the doors are near mint though as well as the radio and tape deck. What were you looking for specifically?
  5. Hello one and all, Last week, I was sitting at a stop light minding my own when a drunk driver rear ended me and fled the scene making it a hit and run. The damage done to my vehicle, while localized almost exclusively to the rear drivers side, bent the back axle and frame to an irreparable state which has permanently disabled it and resulted in my insurance classifying the accident as a total loss. However, I was looking over the vehicle today and besides the damage done, everything else on the vehicle is absolutely sound. I had just replaced the brakes and calipers, put four new tires on it, tuned it up, and even just put and new flywheel and clutch as well as two new CV joints to boot. I was planning to make the conversion over to some of the DL features such as the 4 Headlamp setup and eventually the conversion over to the 4WD D/R setup, but lacked a few parts to complete the job. Needless to say, I'm devastated. However, let my loss be your gain! There are so many valuable and useful parts on this hatch that I know other members of the community are chomping at the bit to get their hands on because so many of the essential parts required to maintain these older generation Subies are getting more and more scarce. While I could easily just scrap the car and get $500 for it, I would feel as if I was doing a great disservice to the community at large if I didn't at least offer it up to someone who might make a better use for it. You guys have helped me in the past with so much knowledge and advice on everything having to do with this car that it's time I brought it full circle. Here are the tech specs: 1.4L EA 81 1600 Engine 4 Speed Manual transmission with FWD and rebuilt transmission Instrument cluster and assembly intact with original mileage All hoses are fairly new All Glass undamaged and intact except for chip in windshield which was professionally repaired Body is rust and damage free spare the impact damage 3 Spare black 13 inch rims for tires Several spare brake calipers for the passenger and driver's side (Just put a brand new one on that side before the wreck) Brand new alternator Several spare control arms and knobs for windshield wipers and lights If there are any details that I am leaving out I will be sure to update and let you know. If anyone has questions or comments, feel free to send me a private message. I am located on the east coast, specifically in the CSRA on the boarder of Georgia and South Carolina in Augusta. My asking price is around $700 and prices for individual parts will be on a case by case basis, but I am more than willing to hear any reasonable offer you might have and I will make whatever accommodations I can to help you if you decide to make a partial purchase of any part(s) or decide to buy the whole vehicle. It will have no title as I will have to surrender the title to my insurance company in order to receive any form of assistance or settlement for the totaling of my car. However, a bill of sale for the vehicle as scrap or salvage should suffice which I am more than willing to provide. Guys, I loved the hell out of this car. It got me through college and was reliable right up until the very end. I'm sad that I couldn't keep the tradition going for any future generations in my family, but if it can help someone out who is in a similar situation and just looking to hold their rig together, or if it can help other subie owners find the parts for a project that they have been searching far and wide to find, then by all means, please consider purchasing her. I'll leave the ad up to see what sorts of interest I get, but if a month goes by and I haven't sold her I'll start parting her out from there. Beaux. Below are reference images for the condition of the vehicle: Intact EA 81 1600 Engine Assembly: Instrument Cluster with original mileage, which is the total mileage placed on the entire engine: Passenger side interior: Passenger Side Body: Intact Rear Passenger Side Tail Light: Spare Headlamp: Damaged Rear Driver's Side: Intact front end: Some of the spare Calipers I have laying around: Two CV Axles looking to be refurbished: (I'll sell them both for $10 or throw them in for free with any substantial purchase if someone wants them) Spare Instrument Cluster and Assembly I used for parts: (Same deal as above except I'll let either of them go for $5 each)
  6. Thanks for the tip, I looked it up and found the link. Here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331214602226?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true The kit is pretty inexpensive and from the reviews I've read, there are very few bugs in the installation.
  7. I had a similar problem with my 86' Standard, however it is the opposite. Both my low beams would work but both my highs would go off whenever I engaged the lever/turn signal on the steering column. I would still get an indicator light on my panel that the brights were on, but no lights. I tested with the voltmeter and discovered I was losing power to both lights at the same time when engaging my high beams. So I ran the wiring diagram in the Haynes repair manual and discovered that the problem was actually contained within the twist knob that turns the lights on and off. A connection within the switch had worn out and was still allowing power to flow through an alternate common when turned on, but would block this circuit from connecting when the switch to activate the high beams was engaged because it switched over to a completely different common. long story short, if you're still having issues, try checking and replacing the switch knobs on your instrument cluster and see if it makes a difference.
  8. Hey there, I own a 1986 Standard 2dr Hatchback that came standard with the two single large round lights. They work fine, but as a side project I was looking to convert them over to the four square light setup as both a practical and aesthetic upgrade. There are times that the rounds just don't produce enough light even with the highs on and having the four lamps seems like the best option. Not to mention they look a lot more appropriate considering I have seen other models of my same wagon with the four light set up and they look unbelievably slick. Because of the universal compatibility of the body styles in this line of vehicles making the swap is relatively easy, however I need some advice on the wiring harness for the lights in terms of whether I would have to rip out and replace the entire wiring setup and replace it with one that was designed to accommodate the four lights, or if there is a half-harness system of sorts that disconnects at a certain point from the rest of the system for this very purpose. Any advice on what sort of parts I might need as well as advice is greatly appreciated. Beaux. For Reference Before: After:
  9. Hey there guys and gals, I am the proud owner of a 1986 2 dr FWD Hatchback with 122K on the car. I bought it from its original owner so most of the original parts that came with it are starting to wear out and require routine matience. I'm working on my clutch and I am looking for a replacement flywheel seeing as the one I have currently installed has already been machined once and I always plan ahead for the unexpected. The only problem I have is that this part is hard to come by. The issue is that I have one of the rare FWD only models that was just sort of thrown together at the end of the model year from leftover parts to create a sellable product. Subaru stopped manufacturing the car model in 1984, but kept selling the vehicles with a new model year on them until they ran out. As a result, I've run into my share of issues when tracking down parts and have spent many a weekend in the wrecking yards tracking down old donor cars to keep my old gal running. I need the 7 in diameter flywheel. Seeing as not many FWD models were really made and still exist, there is very little demand for and no after market manufacturer for this part. All of the flywheels I've found are the 8 in flywheels that are designed for the 1800 class engine that was primarially put into the 4WD models that came shortly after my model year. I'm fairly confident that I can sand the glazing off of the flywheel with my grinder, seeing as it isn't gouged or warped in any way. However, while it may not be an issue now, in the future if I can't find a replacement flywheel for my engine I may be forced to make a conversion over to the 4WD Dual Range, which might force me to have to upgrade to the larger engine. If anyone has this part or has any advice on what sort of transplanting/frankensteining I can do to solve this issue, please don't hesitate to message me. If there are any other models that carry a flywheel that might be compatible then let me know so that I might broaden my search.
