  1. Yeah I'm replacing the rotors. It was the upper bracket bolt I was having trouble with. I stuck my wife's cigarette lighter to for a bit and it eventually worked.
  2. I'm having trouble gettin the upper caliper bolt undone. Soaking it in pb blaster which worked for the lower one. No access to a torch right now though. Frustrating as hell
  3. Parts came today. I am going to be doing this but by bit over the next few days. Any particular advice on doing legacy front brakes? I've read a few things online, in the Haynes and watched a video or two It's been 15-20 years since I "helped" on a brake job. I can't afford to have someone else doing them, so I will be taking my time. What else do I need? Anti squeal compound? It came with a tube of "ceramalub", is that good enough? High temp grease for the caliper pins A c clamp, is 10 inch a good size? Brake fluid Is a torque wrench necessary? Beside noticeably visible damage and piston not sliding is there anything else to look for as far as caliper damage goes? I did drive the car a few days when I probably shouldn't have. But used the brakes as little as possible Thanks guys, you've been a big help to me
  4. The passenger side pad looks to me like it's down to the metal. The rotor has some scratching. I felt some sharp edges when I ran my finger down the rotor. The drivers side is close but not there yet. The rotor felt smooth, some slight ridges but no sharp edges. should I replace both rotors just to be safe? Not really sure what to look for as far as caliper damage? Attaching some pictures of the passenger side
  5. I am definitely getting air when I suck from the bottom. Replace the part?
  6. I'm having trouble finding that part in rockauto, is that the same as the vacuum solenoid? The picture looks similar
  7. I will get them off tomorrow on my day off and take a better look.
  8. I replaced my egr with a used one, along with a few other parts (iac and maf). The car is running well, gas mileage is back on point. After a few days driving the light has come back on again. what should I be looking for to get rid of this code or should I not worry about it? 95 ej22
  9. By the way the sound has been continuing for a few days now, even after a couple hard stops
  10. I tried to pop my tires off today and realized that the car must not have come with a lug wrench and I never noticed. So a better inspection will have to wait till I get my hands on one. did get the car lifted a bit and hubcaps off to look around a bit though. No visible rust that I could see, possibly some scratches on the passenger side rotor but didn't see any on the drivers side. I also noticed this in the picture I attached. What is it? A cv axle? and is that cracked boot a problem?
  11. A couple weeks at a time at the most. I would get it out running from time to time, even though I could barely keep it on. The sound is pretty intense, and stopping once today seemed to take a little longer than it should have
  12. So I finally got my car running well(1995 legacy ej22, 189k). I replaced the egr valve and iac with some used parts from gross Gary and it's running well. Now it seems like my front brakes are grinding. I don't rember noticing any sound until recently. When I take the tire off and look will it be pretty obvious? Rockauto.com has a front brake kit for $67, anybody have any experience with it?
  13. 1995 legacy ej22, 189k. Car is still throwing egr and mass air flow codes. It has been running rough but it would stay on and get me to and from work. I have a previous thread on here from a couple months ago. I have cleaned the mass flow sensor and egr valve, replaced cracked air hoses and vacuum hoses. idle air control does not pass the tests offered by the Haynes manual. after I replaced the air hoses, I cannot keep the car on, it wont even make it to the end of the driveway. Money has been tighter than tight, but I have a bit of a bonus and a lot of overtime coming on this next check. I have not been able to find any parts at junkyards in my area, and am thinking I need to break down and spend some money if I want to drive my car. Mass air flow sensor is my first thought (and the cheapest one), ebay has them at affordable prices. I know subarus are finicky about parts, anything I should look out for on this? Then either idle air control or egr valve. again, ebay is most affordable by a long shot. since these are mechanical I cant see a problem buying discount parts. I just want to get the car running for a while, so I can get to work and then get it to a mechanic in month or so when the money starts coming in again. what are your thoughts on this? thanks
  14. some similar problems happened in my Subaru. by no means is my running at 100%, but here is what I did. after replacing plugs and wires. check your vacuum lines, i found some that were pretty bad. this was the main thing that helped me out. new air filter and spray clean MAF with special mass air flow sensor cleaner, other stuff can ruin it. also pop off you IAC and soak it in throttle body or carb cleaner. this helped my car out a lot. i also cleaned out my EGR valve. hope this helps. ive been very low on funds also and this was the cheapest way I could think of to get my car running my car is 95 EJ22 so its a little different from yours.
  15. Yes it seems like it, no problems since. Thanks for the info. Vacuum lines are next on the list. Also the lines coming off the intake, and a some coolant lines that seem to be deteriorating. The air lines coming from the intake into the pcv valve are pretty dirty, lots of build up on the sides. I didnt want to scrape it off, thinking that it may be bad if some of the crud gets sucked into the valve. Will do the pcv valve at the same time.
  16. still need to clean the spark plugs but i cant find my wire brush. i may just end up buying a new set for peace of mind
  17. Car seems to be running ok today. Started up fine without assistance. I tightened the battery connections and lightly cleaned them. Still a small lope in the idle, i give it a touch of gas and it seems to go away. No shuddering on a 40 minute trip today.
