  1. I'm looking into a 2003 Outback with the 3.0. I've always had 1.8's and 2.2's. I was wondering if any of you experts could give me a heads up on possible problems with the six compared to the 2.5 four. also the antifreeze has a brownish grainy look to it. Is that the "special dealer mystery additive"? What's the deal with that? Thanks for any info you could provide.
  2. has anyone patched a fuel filler pipe? my 95 legacy at has a little leak. i was thinking of cleaning it up and trying some jb weld or epoxy on it. what do you think would work best short of buying a new pipe. thanks
  3. I bought an '88 loyale wagon quite a few years back after owning only domestics my whole driving life. I loved that quirky little car. unfortunately I moved from Albuquerque back to Iowa and the salt took the body apart. I now own three legacy wagons '94 auto 108k the son drives, '95 auto 140k the wife drives, and my '95 mt 191k just replaced the original clutch. Other than cv's, brakes, and an occasional CEL all have been great cars. Just the other morning black ice on a corner put two larger SUV's in the ditch while my wife drove right thru, she loves her subie! After driving her old Ford Exploder she feels less like the sube will roll over. If more people got out of their big gas guzzling SUV's we would be alot safer and save alot of gas. Go Subaru!
  4. i think i got it now. the cat was full of chunks blocking the exhaust flow. put on new y-pipe and cats from a wrecked '95 and i'm good to go! (knock on wood!) love the forum thanks for the insights.
  5. here's an update on my "wire ghost". i tried the computer trick mentioned in haynes book unhooked the 'puter sprayed the harness with electrical cleaner let it dry put it all back together drove to work and so far no cel's i don't know if that did it or i'm barking up the wrong wire tree!
  6. yes it's a '95. thanks, i'll check that coolant sensor. the code that came up that time was p0105 pressure sensor or curcuit malfuction. the code i get every day is p0130 upstream o2 sensor or curcuit malfunction.
  7. dubuque's still rockin'. savanna also. my band "we're late and smell like beer" play at the iron horse in savanna all the time. my wire chase is never ending it seems.
  8. thanks, i checked the resistance of the sensor and got a new one. hooked it back up using the connectors that came with the bosch sensor still popped the o2 code this morning on the way to work. i'm getting 12v coming out the engine side of the harness. i'll try soldering the other connection.
  9. hi everyone, longtime subie owner first time posting. i have 3 subes at the present time 2 '95 legacy wagons an auto with 136000 a stick with 189000 and a '94 legacy wagon with 110000. i love 'em my wife and son drive the autos and i drive the stick which has been a pistol as of late. i got a code reader and i kept getting o2 sensor malfunction. i replaced with a univeral bosch and now i'm getting the same code popping up. it also got a pressure sensor code which according to the hanyes manual is only on turbos and automatics. when that code popped the car wouldn't start and when i turned the key off the check engine light would come on and one of the radiator fans would also come on. i opened the hood, jiggled the wires near the o2 lead and the light and fan shut off and the car started right up. pretty weird! any thoughts?
