  1. Yep. Definitely used the dash mark and not the arrow. I've tried spraying starter fluid in the intake and cranking with the gas to the floor. Nothing is working. We are going to redo a compression test today to see if the valves are good.
  2. Hoping someone can help with this. Just did a like for like engine swap. 2008 Impreza, 2.5i SOHC, Manual transmission. I have verified that the injectors are clean, cam and crank sensors are working perfectly, checked injectors with a noid light and they are getting pulse signals just like they should, all timing components have been replaced including water pump and I have made sure the timing is set correctly. I have also seen that I'm getting an rpm signal on a live data scanner. When I crank the motor, it gets up to about 130 rpm but won't fire on it's own. The spark plugs are all gapped correctly and are getting spark, although its a yellow color less than a blue. No matter what I do, the engine will not start on it's own. I've tried both styles of crank and cam gears and have the same result from both. Someone please help me with this, I need this car to run. Thanks in advance.
  3. Mine is a MT. I'm pretty sure the new motor was MT as well. But thank you for that. I hadn't thought of that.
  4. I have a 2008 impreza, 2.5i, SOHC. I just replaced the blown motor with a used motor with 60,000 miles on it. Replaced all the timing components except for the cam gears. When I tried to start the car, the motor wouldn't turn on it's own. From what I've been told, the camshaft position sensor communicates with the raised bars on the back of the left side cam gear which come in 2 bar, and 7 bar varieties. My question is, how do you tell what kind of cam gear you need for the car to start? I don't have the original motor anymore as it was turned in for a core refund after we transferred over all of the accessories. Any other applicable advice is welcome and I can provide more info about the car as needed. Thanks in advance! - Bryan
  5. Thanks Emily! Is it possible that newer motor, even though it's from the same model year, could have a different left cam gear then? I don't have the original motor anymore, as it was turned in for a core refund. How would i tell if the car needs a 2 or 7 bar gear?
  6. Ok, this is all great advice! I noticed you guys all mentioned the left cam gear. Is there something different about that side? The cam gear itself looks different than the right side. Also we scanned for codes and nothing is coming up.
  7. Hey all I just bought a used motor with about 60,000 miles on it to replace mine with a thrown rod. It's a 2008 2.5i Impreza, non-turbo. Replacement motor went through a compression test and was said to have good compression. We replaced all the timing components, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and clutch. Went to turn it on and the motor wouldn't turn over on it's own. The starter spun the flywheel like it was supposed to but nothing happened. We then checked the fuel lines to make sure it was getting fuel pressure and it was. Then checked spark plugs and verified that we are getting spark as well. Motor still won't turn over. Can anyone help? I can give more info as needed. Thanks in advance!
