  1. Its a 2003, I was running it in the 02 GT also and could be why its knocking.
  2. This was my first Subie as well. I got it to drive the winter and put my 62 Gal away so I don't ruin it. The donor motor actually has fresh oil in it but I'm going to change it anyways. Local shop recommended 5w20 oil and 5qts.. Yeah I shoulda looked online first lol. Thankfully the motor hasn't been run other than moving the car in the driveway. I plan on putting a gauge in I hate dummy lights, just trying to find a gauge/pod that doesn't look too rice in the car. Not a fan of pillar pods really.
  3. Funny thing is I bought the other car first the GT was the parts car... Gt ended up being in better shape body wise and road legal vs having to do a clutch + a ton of body work and stuff. Other motor has 194k on it but has a new timing belt setup and was actually maintained well. Still high miles but its what I got. Gonna save up for a motor off one of those JDM shops, doesn't seem like a bad deal 1k area for an EJ20 turbo or even $800 for an SVX motor. Wish I could get a good 390 for my Galaxie that cheap lol
  4. I don't know. Not by me I just got it on the road I only have around 500-600 miles on it maybe 1000 but I don't drive much. Did an oil change, new plugs, coolant all that when I got it. Only thing that took it off the road for a bit was the o2 sensors.
  5. If its a rod knock like I thought Ill just swap motors. Other one just needs to be unbolted from the tranny
  6. I know topics like this are everywhere and I looked through a ton but none seemed to help. I have a 2002 Legacy GT 2.5L 5sp with 255k miles and last week I was going through the MCds in town and I started hearing a bit of a rapping. I figured it was just the exhaust shields as someone used hose clamps to hold them on before I got it and they tend to be noisy then my oil light started coming on and going off very dim with the beat of the motor so I calmly drove it home no playing but before I got home it was full on knocking but the light never came back. I can go out right now start it up and no knock I checked it over nothing so I took it for another short drive and it didn't knock at all then the next day it knocked again. Today I went out and checked the oil no flakes in the oil. I pulled each plug wire to see if taking strain off a cyl would quiet it or stop it... Nope still there. Pulled the timing cover off on the drivers side and the belt looks pretty new and is tight with no wobble when running. The only thing I haven't tried is running premium in it as I have been running 87 but it sounds way too loud to be that but I'm no expert. I do have a video of it. Only knocks when it gets to temp if its cold it sounds perfectly fine. Makes me think its a rod knock but I have no clue. I'm pulling the motor out of my other Subie right now I just would rather not do an engine swap in my driveway in 2ft of snow.
  7. Yeah im probably gonna order one when I can. Hopefully thats all it is. I like the car but there is no way I can afford to bring it to a shop around here lol. I know old cars these newer ones are way out of my league normally.
  8. Just got out from under the parts car, o2 on that thing was welded on with rust. Is a maine car with 200k afterall lol. That one posted up there will work on the upstream? Says its a downstream but Im guessing the sensors are the same just diff hookups.
  9. I dont think its a clogged cat just cause the car runs too good at wide open and when its not bucking it runs perfect at any throttle. Gonna go out and scan it again at idle and stuff real quick. It could be the cat I dunno but it just seems to run too good when it decides to. Just unhooked the front o2 and let it run for a bit. No change at all in how It runs.
  10. Ill try but as it sits right now the car is not drivable. Will only go at almost full throttle and thats just gonna break something or ruin the clutch. Any less and it bogs and stalls or bucks. That or you try to go a constant speed and just a slight move of the throttle to slow down = no throttle and it kills the engine or idles or god knows
  11. I actually changed the knock sensor also off the 03, forgot to mention that.
  12. Will in a few got the laptop charging. Forgot and left it in the car all night. Didn't like the cold much.
  13. That was my first go to then I got looking at it as it had a CAI kit on it and I was like.... ooooook there is no MAF then I found the MAP sensor. I have since put an original intake on it though. The MAP sensor I got was used from a friend in unknown condition. Didn't run any better or worse so I assumed mine was ok. Or both could be dead lol.
  14. I was thinking about swapping the 03 on as a temp deal just so I can drive it till I can get a new one. Defiantly going to get it online the local parts store quoted me $232 for the upstream sensor.
  15. Well I'm a bit of a domestic guy normally. I mostly drive classic muscle or something I put a stupid motor in but I saw an 03 Legacy and had to get it. Always wanted a Subaru though its no Brat it will do for now. Bought it and drove it home and not even a week or two later I got offered a 2002 GT Limited 5spd for a VW Cabrio in my back yard and I snatched it up. I drive the GT and the 03 is more of a parts car/project for now. Most people here locally complain about Subies mpg but man considering I'm used to 10-14 mpg the 25ish it got when I got it was amazing lol. Though I was getting 17+ mpg in my 62 Galaxie this summer and it has a 390. Why I got the Subaru actually. I'm fine driving my Gal as my daily driver in the summer but she is not going to see a winter ever again. Having a bit of problems with the GT and I imagine its why I got it but I really like the car its fun to drive and has enough power to have some fun though more is always welcome. It has some tuner mods done from the previous owner like a CAI, Header, drilled and slotted rotors, and a fart cannon. Already took the CAI off and the cannon will come off soon. Also gotta get a hood latch cause I just don't trust the hood pins someone put on it lol. Here is the GT it has 254k miles and is in pretty good shape for a Subie in Maine. And here is the 03 L. Car ran beautiful but has almost no clutch left and needs bearings all around... Needs allot more now as I have taken engine parts for the 02. This is also the good side... The other side has a smashed fender and you can tell it was beat hard. I may get chased out of here for this but me being me.... I'm thinking about putting a v8 in the 03 as the motor is going to be pulled to be rebuilt as a replacement for the GT at some point. I know the rear ends are not the strongest in these but I don't plan on putting down a ton of power its more of a just cause thing and to confuse people. I already measured and if I REALLY wanted to my 454 would fit in the engine bay but that's just asking for trouble so I will probably go with a 302 or a 305/350.
