  1. Thanks for the replies. Would be sweet if it worked. Might have to dig around and do more research.
  2. Will a 4eat with sportshift from an 05 Legacy 2.5i swap into a 99 SUS if the diff, axles, and tcu are swapped with the transmission?
  3. Anybody have any insight? Don't want to get stranded someday after getting gas. Problem has been getting a bit worse.
  4. 99 Legacy SUS. 2.5D. Revs go up and down after filling up on gas. Usually get premium from Shell. Have read a little bit about this seems to point at vapor canister, purge valve, or maybe gas cap. Any help is appreciated 👍
  5. I know there is an o ring in the oil pump that can leak, my 99 ej25d has similar symptoms, and I know on that engine the oil pump o ring leaks. Either way sounds like a significant oil leak
  6. Doing that without the belt wouldn't feel like a manual rack. Multiple svx owners have done a manual rack swap. I'm not worried about turning the wheel. I grew up learning to drive on a 4runner with no power steering. What dimensions do I need to look at to make sure it will bolt up to a legacy?
  7. I know its an easy system to fix and everything. I've just been wanting to try out a manual rack for a while after I read that someone did it to an SVX. I just see no downsides and a lot of benefits to a manual rack. Just on the hunt for a rack that will fit. Surely someone has done this before, I've read about people thinking about doing it, but couldn't find any posts that had actually completed it on this gen Legacy.
  8. Has anyone ever found a manual steering rack that will fit a 1999 Legacy? Been looking around and just not sure if any old Subaru manual racks would fit. I've read rumors of people using Ford Pinto manual racks.
  9. I have a 4eat in my 99 legacy that does something similar to what you describe. I drain the fluid and change the external filter when this starts to happen. I've heard trans x really helps with this type of thing. Not sure if this is the same problem you're having or not.
  10. TBH I would guess that water would cavitate a lot more than Subaru coolant. Causing air in the system. Subarus don't have bad head gaskets. It's a side affect of how the cooling system works.
  11. If you do that you could tear down your original 2.2 and see if it's rebuild able. Then you'll have two 2.2's. Pretty desirable
  12. You can run without a thermostat if you can get the thermostat housing to seal and you might not have heat. Just to verify, the pressure relief cap you put on is not oem? I've heard bad things about those caps on subies. I'm almost positive that moving the thermostat from in front of the water pump to the top hose would help solve this, but no point in doing that if head gaskets are bad.
  13. So you're not getting any coolant to the bottom hose. Thermostat might not be opening or your radiator cap might not be building up enough pressure before opening. I know I've already said this haha, but If you don't have an oem radiator cap and thermostat, get those before anything else. They're cheaper than most other fixes.
  14. Was your bottom radiator hose hot or cold when the car overheated? Don't assume head gasket problems, it's likely the cause, but don't assume that your head gaskets are bad lol.
  15. Not sure on either. I was in high school when I got them replaced, and didn't know much about cars/Subarus. Based on how the shop did everything else, I'd say they used cheap gaskets and didn't resurface the heads. Which is why the car is having head gasket problems now. Would've done it myself the first time if it wasn't my first car. Now I'm trying to decide between buying a new car, new engine, or rebuilding. Sorry not trying to hijack the thread. To the op, make sure you have oem thermostat and radiator cap.
  16. I've already had mine replaced a couple years ago. I think the shop did something wrong, they definitely should've lasted this long, if not for the life of the car. I hated the place and haven't been back. That's why I've been trying to replace everything possible before I resort to head gaskets. If I swap anything in , it'll be another dohc.
  17. This has been happening to me. New radiator, new thermostat, new radiator cap, silicone hoses. Testing the compression tonight.
  18. Depends on what you're going for. Ls swaps kinda defeat the purpose of having a Subaru. Flat engine makes up for what it lacks in power with handling benefits that are better than a v type engine.
  19. Never said that it would fix a head gasket, thats a pretty stupid thought. I was suggesting that it would help prevent good head gaskets from going bad, while also being easier to replace. I'm not trying to prove that this works, just wanted thoughts on it.
  20. I think I've been misunderstood. I know how to bleed the coolant in an ej
