  1. I bought the car because it was very clean inside and out. Looked like someone took good care of it. A Florida car with zero rust whatsoever. There are some mods that i have been trying to identify. Looks like a bigger turbo, inter cooler, GrimmSpeed boost solenoid and full huge and obnoxious Perrin exhaust. My OBD2 tool says that it is hitting 20psi of boost. I"m not too upset about the trans. The car has 119k and I figured it would have a worn trans. The green oil just trough me for a loop.
  2. Yeah. it was oil. Guess it is the Redline Shockproof. Never heard of this stuff till now. It sure didn't do this transmission any favors though. Sounded and shifted like it had no oil at all. Guess I'm in the market for a transmission now.
  3. In all my days of working on Subarus, and cars in general, I have never seen anything like this. Anyone have any explanation? It was drained from a 2008 WRX that i just bought. The car was very clean with 119K on the odometer and looked well maintained otherwise. The 5 speed was not sounding very good, whining noise and grinding synchros.
  4. I am looking for some engine builder advice. I have a EJ205 that came out of a 05 WRX with 144k miles. The engine was still running strongand still making boost but was very dirty on the outside and i did not know the history so I decided to pull the engine and break it down. The engine came apart pretty easy, no broken or rusty bolts. No visual signs of damage. At this point I will measure everything as specified in the FSM and figure out what machine work will need to be done. I want to ask though about bearing clearances. I have not done a turbo engine before. All my experience is just stock N/A power and building back to stock specs. I would like to take this engine to 300 WHP. I think that is possible with the stock internals but I that is just my theory and not backed by any experience. From my research, the rods are the weak link but if i do not plan to exceed 300 WHP then... Also. I know that the secret to building is being precise with clearances. I can just follow the manual but if i plan on pushing more than stock power, do i need to increase the main and rod bearing clearances a bit (i.e the +.001 bearings) I also know that the secret to keeping engine (that is correctly built) in one piece is to tune it correctly as well. I have the RomRaider software and ECUFlash equipment and have verified that i can read and write to my ECU. Of course that is way down the line right now. Anyways, I'd love to have someone with knowlage help me through this build!
  5. Hello all. Just wanted to say Hi before I start. I am an old Subaru nut and have been splitting EJ,s and rebuilding them ever since i got my first 1.8l Impreza 2 door back years ago. It all started when I finally pushed the poor thing to far on a river crossing and hydrolocked the engine. It only took me a couple of weeks to find a wrecked 01 2.5RS to swap the engine. That little two door Impreza ran for another 180K miles before I donated it to a friend in need. That was 14 years ago! Ever since then I have owned a Subaru in one form or another! Currently Sporting around in a couple of legacy 5 speed wagons! and I have just picked up a wrecked 05 WRX that still runs good but am going to pull and rebuild anyways. So that my intro!
