  1. Mike104 thank you so much your diagram stopped my panic! this morning I woke early and I tried to remove the leaky hose. I could not for the life of me remove the line from the rack I ripped the metal line off the nipple/nut and I cut (with saw zall) a line down the middle of it so I could collapse it and relieve the pressure or tension for easy turning but that did not help. There is barely anything there for me to grab to turn and at this point its gonna take an experienced mechanic to get that out. so I came home and I decided that I'll pay someone to do it and order the parts, but when I go online, I see only the hoses on the right side of diagram that Mike104 posted and not the ones I need, so the basically the end of my hose gets threaded into the rack I believe not over the nipple like all that I found...... unless I messed up.....oh boy Im panicking again
  2. Hi guys, my new to me 06 Forester X is leaking at one of the power steering lines going into the rack n Pinion, It's leaking right where the rubber line goes into the metal line right before it curves. I replaced the clamp and it didn't help so I added another clamp and it still the same I trimmed the hose back a bit and put 2 different tighter clamps & its still leaking, what do I do? ... kinda don't want to buy a whole new line and it looks like the other end of the rubber hose might be sealed from factory onto the metal line...any help would be appreciated at all thank you.
  3. Thanks guys! seriously. I had the codes checked, it was just one P0456 which is Evap emissions leak. I cleared the code and it went away. The coolant levels in radiator and overflow are all back to normal. Gauge is normal.
  4. Hi guys, So my 03 Forester with 220,000 miles did some funky stuff this weekend. I was on thruway doing 70 MPH hauling a 4x8 trailer (not full, hauling drums & guitars) when I smelled coolant and my check engine light came on, IT DID NOT OVERHEAT. I watched the temp gauge nervously and when I got of my exit I pulled over and checked for leaks but, there wasn't any thing dripping. My check engine light is still on & I've been driving it very little. Has anyone experienced this before? what should I look for and what should be next steps in being proactive about a repair? Should I be worried?
  5. If the shaking is coming from the front check your strut mounts, they could have gone bad. if this is the case you can buy a pair on ebay for cheaper than you would a parts store, the mechanic may try to talk you into replacing your struts too, you should if your bank account allows you too
  6. I'm new to the forum as well, but not to Subaru. Just reading what you wrote I would almost recommend the Crosstrek Hybrid if your looking to into something to travel with and comfort, and longer maintenance interval the hybrid Crosstrek should fit your needs. a bigger option is probably the Outback not sure how much bigger it is than the Crosstrek I know a lot more people are buying them in NY versus the other models. I own 2 Foresters and I can fit my family and dogs, I've installed a hitch and I tow a 4x8 enclosed trailer full of band equipment like nothing doing 75 mph just fine.
  7. Hello everyone, I'm new here & I'm a proud daddy of 2 Foresters ( Just got my 2nd). My 03 Forester XS was purchased with about 130,00 just about 4 years ago and it still runs strong & looks good too ( see the pic) but, it has some issues I'd like to ask if anyone has experienced. 1st it looks like I have an oil leak emanating from my oil cooler & oil filter area, I worked at a quick change I know the filter is tight. I went ahead and got a new oil cooler gasket ring and replaced it and it seems like it didn't help. I also noticed that oil is starting to seep from my head gaskets. I lose about half a quart of oil every few weeks or so, depending on how far I drive. 2nd When I start her up it feels like the entire engine shakes like all heck, could be the exhaust but still not sure I know it didn't do it the first 3 years. 3rd is a question, What weight of oil do u guys recommend? I've heard some guys using 5W40 full synth in their Subies, does anyone know if this is better than just 5w30 Full Synth? I would really like to keep her running for another few years she's been good to my family and the wife doesn't want her to leave lol. Thank you in advance!
