  1. I made some time this winter to work on the ol '78 and put her back on the road. I put her out to pasture 4 years ago with the best of intentions but y'all know how the last 4 years have gone. In the face of rapid deterioration and a narrow miss by a giant pecan tree that uprooted in a wind storm, I made the tough decision to do the best I could for her. I grabbed the grinder and the welder, some paint and the sander and figured since I might not ever get to fully restore it, I may as well do the next best thing... and drive it! Got the antique car registration and the vintage 1978 licence plate. She's back to turning heads everywhere we go! I'm not even going to contemplate the "right or wrong" of it.
  2. thanks everyone for the advice. i had to move to Kansas recently and was only able to take one car with me. you guessed it, i drove her 1700 miles to Kansas and left my other cars in idaho. i dont have the resources here in kansas that i used to in idaho and am considering SELLING IT as i may not be able to care for it properly. I'd let it go to the right person for a good price if i do sell it. im considering offers if anyone is interested.

  4. i guess the story behind it is that the lady who owned it originall was obsessed with washing it every day so it was well taken care of but it did have rust in a few spots. however, there was only a couple spots where the rust went all the way through and they were only about as big around as a pencil. so i found it just in time! i took a grinder to all the rust spots then sealed and bondoed them back smooth. it had a vinyl top at one time which caused the most rust damage (as it deteriorated and then held debri and moisture). i settled with spraying it with truck bed liner (the black you see in the pictures) which has the look of vinyl but hopefully much better protection. and im not sure if they came like this or not but the inner wheel wells and under carriage of the car had all been heavily undercoated prior to me owning it (thank goodness!) maybe from the dealership. i think i have some before pics ill post em
  5. so i spotted this car in a farmers field a while back and tracked down the owner who sold it to me for $300. hadnt moved in 20 years, was covered in moss, and sitting on 4 flat tires. I towed it home and pressure washed it, drained the old fuel, checeked the plugs, added new fuel and started it up. Honestly, if youve never driven one of these cars, you have no idea what youre missing! too bad me and a handfull of other people have the only ones left!
  6. so i was pulling a tape on the 2.2 the other day and its a little too close to call. does anyone know if it would fit in the 78 gf?
  7. so i stumbled upon a 78 gf hardtop in a farmers field, covered in moss, with no dents, very little rust,5pd, 41,000 mi. I tracked down the farmer and he said for 300 bucks i could have her. i had never seen one of these cars before. (i thought it was an old b210 at first) i towed it home and to my surprise had it running that day. now i drive it everywhere and love it! Still have yet to see another one and even the internet suggests that the car is a forgotten piece of the past. but now what do i do? mine is complete and everything works on it (lights, ac,switches, guages, everything!) i wouldnt say its a fast car but its not the gutless rolls/welk/anhardly that my old toyotas were neither. i would consider it "quick". Does anyone have any info on performance upgrades for the 1600? or ideas at all for a GF? im having a hard time finding any info or anyone who has one or any any other evidence (except a few pics on the internet) that i dont have one of the last ones left. they cant be that rare can they?
