  1. I definitely prefer the vertical bar as it doesn't block the radiator... Once I can get my hands on my own bender I will definitely be playing with things like factory bar replicas and complete round tube bumpers
  2. also if and admin wants to make this a poll that would be awesomeness ...
  3. So I have been toying around with the idea of producing some light bars, and while I am particularly fond of the bumpers I've built I know the price is a little high for some... And not wanting to descriminate , cause everyone needs more light , I have two basic ideas for light bars for the grill area of the scoob and wanted everyones opinion on them... Conept 1: Vertical Bar Mounting tab for the lights Concept 2: Horizontal Bar; inspired by the Rallitek light bar thread I looked at... Mounting tabs can be inside the bar or outside These are the two basic concepts of what I have been tinkering with this morning... Keep in mind these are really rough as I had very little bent tubing to work with since my close friend moved about an hour away from me, and since he has the tubing bender it makes it difficult to do things on a whim, hence the drawn in yellow lines for where the tubing will be run... I think it would be most practical to run 2 lights off of both setups however 3 should fit fine, 4 would be pushing it as they might start to get in the way of the headlights... Also keep in mind this is 1.75 inch tubing, alot bigger than I really want to use, I was thinking more along the lines of 1 or 1.25 inch tubing... There is a lot left to consider still, especially the actual mount of the bar... I have a few ideas however I want to make it as simple as possible... Also a determination of price is in order, so everyones opinion on how much they would be willing to pay for one would be appreciated... I'm sure I've failed to mention some things but post your thoughts!!! -caleb
  4. Good points, still need to at least get it tuned to my antenna...
  5. Could be, but even with it a few feet from the car it didn't pick up, but sometimes it will just turn on and be fine while in the car, strangest thing... Thanks btw...
  6. Ha, actually do have a few trucker friends none are big and burly though... CB is definitely an obsolete means of personal communication however it is really nice to have on long trips, hell it actually worked today and helped me avoid a over turned truck on the interstate that was blocking all the lanes... That and its nice to have on the trail to communicate in large amounts rather than having a conference call going on... Then to have the PA is just good childish fun!
  7. Decide that since my wagon has become my DD I would swap my CB from my civic to my wagon... At first I couldn't decide where to put it bue I finally decided to pull the cassette deck and squeeze it in that location... Was almost 100% certain it wouldn't fit but lookie what happened ... Even fits nicely while in first gear... I think it turned out nice, even got the faceplate/shroud thingy back on, and found a nice location for the mic... If anyone is interested in how I mounted it I will be pulling it back out to have it worked on, seems I can't hear any channels other than the weather broadcasts and use mly PA hehe, so I can snap a few more pictures...
  8. How do you like this mod? I've been thinking of doing the same thing...
  9. Could just be camera angle, but the passenger side does look lower in the pictures... But who cares as long as it does its job... Plus I would like to see an off road subaru with everything straight and square
  10. .120 wall is generally what I work with, thinnest thing that wont kink in the bender... Square tube bumpers can be a bit thinner to save weight since I bend them completely by hand...
  11. Can't wait to see how this turns out...
  12. Once I get through this finals week I will get to working on sketches etc... I haven't weighed my bumper but I don't think it is any heavier than stock, thats something else I will have to do... A round tube bumper should come out even lighter too, we shall see... -caleb
  13. 1)Would love to do work with other subies but unfortunately there are few around these parts, so I don't have cars for a template... 2)Most certainly can, I've been waiting on this semster to get over so I can toy around with some ideas I have, one more week ... 3)This particular bumper style, somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-350 shipped is a fair price considering the work that goes into these... Though I am planning on doing some bumpers our of round tube in the near future... Since I can just bend round tube the price for round tube bumpers will be SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER... I am a big fan of the bartering system, so trades are always welcome as well... Honestly I want to get several prototypes built while I have the time this summer; front and rear bumpers, light bars, etc etc... And if you happen to live near by which I am sure hardly anyone does, I am more than willing to build you something for free so long as after I build it I can keep it long enough to make a jig of sorts so I can replicate it for anyone else that might be interested... -caleb
  14. The tabs are there for the expensive rock blockers... haha, his horizontal opening is a bit shorter than mine so that will cut down on the area that rocks have to jump in there... so far I haven't had any problems with mine... Rob, I am liking those turn signals, my original idea was to install the 6" oval LEDs on mine but the little beehive ones I have were only like $2, and Im cheap so, lol... Glad you like it Oh yea and I have one more sitting in my shop that is halfway built if anyone is interested
  15. I think it was a saturn motor, 1.8L or something really obscure like that... Best thing to do is keep the stock motor or EJ swap it... Have a D/R 5spd with a sammy tcase(with a regear), and toy axles with new diff gears and lockers and you are good to go... No need for lots of power when you have an insane crawl ratio... Ask me how I know, lol....
  16. From personally experience I would suggest an early 90's ranger. If you don't have much mountainous terrain or highway driving you can get away with a 2wd 4cly and be golden... Used mine to tow cars on dollies no problem and 20ft trailers filled with all kinds of junk... Even better towards the end of its life I beat the hell out of it, ran it low on oil nearly no coolant and it just kept going and going, sold it to my friend and he actually drove it only with water in the cooling system and would drive it a half hour to work with the water frozen in the bottom radiator hose in the winter... I've never known anyone to be disappointed by a early 90's 4cly ranger, I will most certainly have another one day for small hauling purposes...
  17. I did and thats why I wanted to know more about it...
  18. Buddy of mine sent me this link to pirate... Idk if anyone knows anything about this wagon but I would love to know more... http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=766401 looks like someone beat me to the coilovers + yota axles... but its nice to know it works...
  19. might hunt for this mysterious button tomorrow if I have the time when I get home...
  20. Is there a way to make the digital speedometer read kilometers per hour rather than mph... I see the km/h below the MPH but is obviously not lit... Just curious about this...
  21. Tires are Bridgstone APT III's, can only get them at Sears and maybe SAM'S... If I remember correctly they are 225/70/14... Rims are from a late 80's/early 90's mazda truck 2wd...
  22. Definitely have to get things pretty straight... After I got the rear end put in my solid axle wagon project, I fab'd up a square drive shaft and rode around like that, worked fine... Don't see why the same wouldn't be true for I.S. axles....
