  1. cool find.. I found a 91 loyale sitting in a ladies yard under snow..only the top showed.. I only recognized it as a Roo because I saw the "Loyale" symbol on the side from where the snow was plowed.. I talked her into selling it for 200 bucks.. a month later... and the "blown tranny" shifts smooth as a babies tush, and I can go through 18 inches of wet snow with the 4WD kicked in.. good luck on yer' acquisition.
  2. Hi, I can get a set of puegeot alloy mags, 15 inch wheels.. can I put these on a loyale without a lift?.. do I need any mods? what sized tire will be the best advised? thanks everyone. FGUG
  3. Jeez, you guys are sensitive.. I did cut you slack.. I was the one who was impatient, and acknowledged that. thank you and I appreciate all the feedback. I was just getting no help from my manuals, and you all have hands on practice
  4. I know you are an "elite" member.. rest assured, I meant no harm.. BUT I am DESPERATE!! so, I needed to try to put some fire under your hide, that's all. I thought you were all here to help.. but, be that as it may, I took to the problem and located a 6" hose going from the top of the tranny to the back of the toque converter housing. I pulled off one end and the pressure released.. I drove the car with the hose detached and drove it hard for about 6 miles.. came home, pulled the tranny dip, NO PRESSURE!!! But.. will this be a safe way to travel? and what does this hose do?.. no offense and many apologies to anyone that was put off with my post.. thank you FGUG
  5. Try changing the vacuum modulator... get a COMPLETE tranny fluid flush from a dealer, (about 135 bucks) they will run new fluid through the system as the OLD fluid gets pushed out.. when you get it back, remove 1 pint from the system with a 1/4 inch tube attached to an electric pump directly down the dipstick hole.. replace 1 pint with a pint of SEAFOAM TRANS-TUNE.. about 6 bucks.. this should clear up the problem.. oh, you may want to take off the governor and sit it in WD-40 for an hour.. or do the "de-burring" technique.. this should make yer tranny shift nicy nice
  6. Ok you fine folks, I posted an hour ago and not one of you had the time to reply.. so I will keep it simple. please, if anyone knows if there is a transmission vent on a 1991 loyale 3AT I will really appreciate the reply. thanks. FGUG
  7. I have a 1991 loyal that was in a ladies yard here in colebrook Ct.. "tranny blown" according to the owner.. got it for 50 bucks.. body is exceptional and 4WD works great..interior excellent..would not shift out of first gear, but shifted into 2nd with stick control lever.. put in a new Vacuum modulator for 40 bucks, wires, plugs, fuel filter, air filter.. complete tranny flush by a dealer, then took out a pint of fluid via a tube and small electric pump in the tranny fluid stick.. car runs great and shifts great..grand total , about 300 bucks! . only problem? there is pressure building up in the tranny.. after you drive a while, if you pull the dipstick to the tranny, fluid will blast out.. I need to know if there is an exploded diagram of this transmission that I can locate the tranny vent, or if anyone here might know where the vent is located.. I will kiss the soles of the first person who can help me.. oh, by the way, it snowed here a couple days ago.. for fun, I thought I would try drivin the car in 4WD over the snow plowed up on the side of the road by our local plow trucks.. it was about 15 inches deep and very heavy, wet snow.. this car went through it like a hot knife through a stick of butter! will I sell this prize?? Not a chance!! please help with the vent question!! thanks/ FGUG
  8. does this model have a thermal sensor that, if defective , would create an overheating problem? PLEASE,(yes those are caps, sorry) any help?? thanks!!
  9. Just what can cause overheating? I have a 91 legacy Ls.. and it runs great, but it keeps overheating.. the local dealership changed the thermostat and put in new coolant.. but the same thing happens.. is there a thermal sensor that could cause this to happen?? the 2.2 is the "best engine" subaru has made according to many.. what about the head gasket? are these engines prone to the problem? I don't want to sell this for nothing if it is worth keeping. it only has 150 K and was NOT beaten at all by previous nuclear family.. any help is appreciated.. I am getting desperate! thanks
  10. Hi, Sunday morning... cold as a witches boob here in NW Ct... so, I guess its a ggggreat day to research in the warmth... does anyone know if the 3AT tranny on a 1991 Loyale 4x4 has a vent somewhere.. after the tranny is warm.. there is a build up of pressure .. when the stick is pulled there is a WHOOOSH... I replaced the vac modulator, and pulled the gov.. no gear wear and the spring ends go back to normal position. the car ran and shifted great for about an hour, after I put the new Vac/mod in.. prior to that , iit woul not shift at all out of drive, unless you put it into 2nd manually.. PLEASE HELP. Thank
  11. 91 4x4 3AT tranny... put in a new vaccum modulator, VOILA , she shifts, but only until pressure builds in the tranny.. when I pull the tranny stick out I hear a WHOOSH.. she wont shift smoothly now, WHAT DO I DO? HELPPPPPP!!!!
  12. there is wear on the end gear.. there are marks that are 'shiny', how do I know its not good/ how much for the one you have? thanks
  13. Where can I get a new tranny governor for 3AT loyal ? the one I have looks good , but if its not, can I get this at an auto parts place or is it a dealer part?. also. I drained my gear oil. where is the filter for the gear box located? or is there one? the governor had a foul smell from tranny fluid, but I drained the tranny and put new fluid in , why will the "old fliud" smell be evident still? thanks. Fgug
  14. there IS a bit of wear on the gear. is this indicative of renewal time? thanks Brumby
