  1. The FWD fuse will only work for 30 min to an hour and then the green power light will apear and it will go out and switch back to AWD it runs great in Fwd. if the fwd fuse stayed on all the time that would be perfect for me
  2. My Outback 2002 2.5 is showing a Solenoid C code. I did two Drain and fills of the ATF and code is still present. Usually the green light comes on flashing after around an hour of driving or sometimes 5 min after I start driving. When the light comes on I start noticing performance issues and when coming to a stop 1 out of two times I would say I hear a decent clunk when going into park. The issue was resolved when putting the FWD fuse in and car runs much better no clunk when going into park. After around an hour of driving the power light will apear again and it will take it out of FWD and back to AWD where I seem to have problems it won't switch back to FWD until the car has been parked for a few hours or when I start it back up in the morning. Il have around another hour and a bit of driving in FWD and randomly will switch back to awd and Power light will start flashing none stop again. Could this be my used tires I purchased as one of the tires was put on backwards which I just noticed and the tires are two different brands with different tread wear. Or would this be my solenoid looking for advice before I Pay to have the solenoid done.
  3. Checking under the hood of my 2002 Subaru Outback 2.5 i noticed a very small amount of coolant that looks to be dripping from the heads and catching on some sort of dish just above the power steering rack. I also noticed some fluid leaking off of my power steering rack, it looks to be oil and im concerned it is leaking from above onto the rack somewhere close to where the coolant has been leaking. My power steering fluid resovior is still at the same cold full mark when i purchased the car 3 months ago. The leak looks very small and i can only really notice it leaking when the engine is running. And after a long drive when opening the hood i can see some sort of fluid dripping onto the exhast and burning off. I only notice the odd drip of coolant not 100% sure if its coming from the heads or something else, but from what i have seen online so far it doesnt look to good and i am fearing for the worst. I should also add that in the time i have noticed this leak when starting from a cold start it makes a abnormal noise hard to explain. From what i have read online this may be the engine missfiring on startup, due to low compression from the head gasket leak, could this be possible even with the smallest leak in the head gasket? does this sound likely? The sound does not occur when starting the engine once its been warmed up. I have included some pictures but it is hard to see the small puddle of coolant. I have a few questions. If i have to go about doing this repair what other things should i fix at the same time to give this car atleast another 100,000kms of life? My coolant is bright green with no signs of any oil and my oil looks great with no signs of coolant. Are these the first signs of a failing head gasket? how many hours of labour should i expect to be charged if so? Car has 173,000km
  4. Its a 4cyl 2.5 2002 outback, car is located in Australia. Not sure about the VDC how woulD i check this?
  5. I checked the fluid and it is fairly brown not red at all and a little cloudy, could bad fluid itself cause a solenoid c code to come up? if the code is present does that mean there is for sure something wrong with the solenoid ifself or the wiring? or could bad fluid throw the code and cause bad preformance when driving especially up hill a lot of clunking on the gas peddle and rough shifting when it shifts into gears while driving the car kind of jerks forward and switches into gear sometimes clunking. I plan to have the solenoid and a transmission drain and fill/flush done. I didnt have any binding symptoms until the green power light started to come on a lot more often when it first came on it came on flashing and went out when car was turned off and didnt come on for a week or two then it started to come on a lot more frequently usually at the end of a a hour - 2 hour drive. And the transmission starts to feel a lot worse and not preform properly. Because the FWD fuse worked for a short period of time does that mean that my wiring is most likely fine? Now it does not work at all when inserting the fuse.
  6. The FWD fuse worked for maybe a 5-minute drive and drove better but then all the sudden the light went out and it switched back into AWD and the green power light came back on flashing. It seems the car drove better when the light isn't on but I can still tell something is not right. But when it comes on I start to get worse symptoms clunking becomes worse and starts to happen when coming to a stop sometimes. Switching gears is a lot rougher when hitting the gas. Could this maybe be something to do with the back wheels engaging at the wrong time or do you think it's something worse? I've heard it's okay to drive with a bad solenoid short term could drive 1500/1600kms with a bad solenoid c likely damaged something else? or is that not considered a long time to be driving.
  7. My subaru has been acting up lately with the green power light flashing. I have had trouble with rough shifting (automatic trans) and the steering wheel being tough to turn usually when the car is warmed up. On a cold start when i first start it up and go for a drive the steering wheel is fairly loose and feels better but not like it used to when i first purchased the car. After the end of a hour drive it becomes very stiff and hard to turn. and for the first time today coming into a parking lot i think i experienced some torqe bind. After the light went out randomly when driving seemed to go away pulling into another parking spot. Manually scanned the codes with the black connectors under the dash and got a code 79 for “Transfer duty solenoid” could this cause some rough shifting? I also have to change my transmission fluid as it is a light brown i also noticed sometimes when going into park i hear a loud clunking noise. Symptoms only happen occasionally maybe 60/70% of the time. I put the FWD fuse in today to prevent any further damage and the steering wheel seemed to loosen up and so far drives better in FWD. i also read onlinenit could Be the wiring going to the solenoid how would i go about checking this to narrow it down to the solenoid?
  8. I have been noticing my automatic transmission is not shifting smoothly when acclerating and sometimes occasionally letting off the gas i checked my transmission fluid level and it was low about a week ago i topped it up with new transmission fluid and thought that might solve the problem. I checked the fluid again today and conpared the fluid in a paper towel New fluid vs what came off the dipstick and the fluid off the dipstick is brown and kind of cloudy should i do a transmission drain and fill? I have heard that getting a compleate flush at 170,000km might not be a good idea nd could possibly ruin the transmission. I dont have any service history on the car and the oil didnt looks so great when i changed it so i have a feeling the tranny fluid might not of been changed in a long time. should i flush the transmission fully or do you think a sinple drain and fill would help?
  9. I checked my power steering fluid and there looks to be some small bubbles it is not bubling a lot, is it supposed to be still just like the coolant? Could very snall bubbles cause a steering problem?
  10. When driving my Subaru outback 2002 the green power light will start flashing uncontrollably and does not stop. It comes on occasionally and goes away after turning the car off and on again. I topped up the transmission fluid after realizing that it was low. I have been experiencing loss of power at times and other times the car runs great seemed to run great after I topped up the fluid and thought that was the issue. Today the light came back on again on the highway. I have also been feeling some clunking while pressing the gas peddle and releasing the gas pedal. Which I don't recall being present when I first purchased the car around 2 months ago, after I topped up the fluid that seemed to help the clunky gas pedal a fair bit but occasionally it still occurs. I've noticed the steering becoming harder at times but most of the time it seems fine. I thought maybe a failing power steering pump or something like that or maybe that's an entirely different issue. Could the power light have something to do with power steering? or does it strictly refer to the transmission? The car has 170,000 km. Not a lot of info online about the blinking power light. Any info appreciated, Thanks.
