I had a 2000 Forester with the same setup. I had Best Buy do the installation on it when I upgraded to a Pioneer single disk CD player. I waited until they ran a sale with FREE installation. It only ran me $50 for parts (an adapter). It took about 30 minutes for Best Buy to complete the job. ~Howard

I've been using Valvoline for a while. It's all my mechanic uses. I've been thinking about switching over to their Dura Blend which is part synthetic. ~Howard  -
Crutchfield includes the wire adapters for the speakers. I did not have to cut any wires; just plug and play. Their return policy is the best. They pay for RETURN shipping. Show me another company who does that. There might be "kick butt deals" elsewhere but Crutchfield is number one in my book for car audio. ~Howard

Check with Crutchfield. For my Forester I replaced the front speakers with 6.5" Panasonics. The rear speakers proved to be a problem. That required an adapter to reduce the size to 4" from 5". It seems there are no quality speakers made in 5" that are available from Crutchfield. I wound up using the adapter with Sony 4" speakers. The adapter is not available from Crutchfield but from another company. For tires I would suggest Bridgestone Turanza LST. They are a very good all-season tire. Another alternative would be Firestone Affinity. ~Howard

This concerns my 2000 Forester L. Due to a rear tire problem (which will be repaired on Monday) I had to switch the car to FWD. Question: I am using a 20 amp fuse in the FWD socket. Is this OK or does it need a 30 amp ? The owners manual makes no mention of the fuse size. Thanks in advance for your help. ~Howard :-\

Welcome to this board and to Subaru. YEP....a Subie virgin. Everyone does the same thing with that darn switch. I did it once. My wife noticed my parking lights were on and then a bell went off in my head. SWITCH ! I just wonder why Subaru just doesn't get rid of it for vehicles bound for the USA ? Do vehicles made here such as the Outback have that switch ?

GNUMAN: Thanks for the information. That's basically what my friend said. Today I gave the spring in each arm, the point where the arm flexes and the point where the arm bolts to the motor a shot of PB Blaster. It's a cleaner and lubrication. It seems to have done the trick. It's been raining all day in Philly and I have only heard the noise once. When the weather clears I am going to give the wipers another dose. ~Howard

For the last several months when I use the wipers, I periodically get a CLUNK sound as the wiper makes it's sweep. To me it sounds like the springs in the wiper arms. It doesn't happen every time the wipers are used but maybe 1 out of 10 wipes they make the noise. The wiping action is not effected by this problem; I just don't like the noise. I'm going to try some WD-40 on it and see if it stops. A friend thought it might be the gearing in the wiper. Any comments or suggestions would be most welcome. ~Howard
