  1. Here she is all "finished"(never truly are). Sorry for the crappy pic thought I could upload as much as I wanted. Stats are: Original 1.8L EA82 with Hitachi carb (gonna do the FI conversion soon) 5 speed D/R. 4" SJR kit ( I made my own 3" spacers for the rear to help with tire clearance) 215/75R15 Hiada Pumas (they were cheap, ran out of money but not bad so far) on old 50s Chevy 6 lug steelies Roof basket for the spare Fixed a bunch of stuff, drive shaft, cv's, seats, re-bent skid plate.
  2. My finished 6 lug conversion, not perfect but is working. Rushed the hole locations cause my son was due at any point. I get some vibration over 45 mph from these I think...oh well
  3. Sorry about the wait, long winter, new kid, full time job, phone broke with all my pics. But today my goal is to put them all up. Here's the new exhaust test fit.
  4. Ole Blue had a drilled out cat and was pretty loud so my first step was to replace the exhaust with my 89s exhaust minus the muffler that I replaced with a 2" straight pipe. I should also preface that this is a pretty "budget build" for about $2500 but plan on adding things bit by bit till its what I want. Did the welding my self so hence why it looks like crap haha.
  5. Thought I would start a thread to document my build and let others enjoy it too as I have enjoyed all the other builds on here! To start things off, a bit of back ground. I found a 350$ 92 Loyale and a 89 GL 5spd D/R and planned on making my sweet ride out of thoes but my 89 GL started to stink BAD and found a family of 7+ mice had made the A/C ducts home for months and I pulled literal chunks of crap from behind the dash. After 2 weeks of trying to clean it i gave up and decided to make it the parts car and try and find a non-mice-infested car to start with. Since the GL was now the parts car I sold my Loyale ( for more than I bought it for to help fund the project). Months of looking later I found my car (bought if from another USMB guy) a sweet 1986 GL 5spd D/R with only 140k original miles named ( by the owner) Ole Blue.
  6. Thanks guys, both are EA82s i'd totally be willing to sell him the carb parts. Who is it? Thanks for the link should give me an idea for the swap anyway.
  7. Yeah the parts car ran when I parked it so should be good. From my reading I believe I'll need the ECU and maybe the fuel pump too? Wasn't sure, thats why I was hoping to find a step by step which sounds like exists somewhere. If all else fails I'll pull the system and compare and if my 86 doesn't have it I'll bring it over.
  8. Hey Guys, I recently bought a 86GL with the stock Hitachi Carb. I have an 89GL parts car with fuel injection and would like to swap it over to my 86. I know this was added to the USRM way back and have found links but they are all dead. Can someone post the most recent link to this for me I can't seem to find it to save my life.
  9. Thanks again guys, yeah 3 are big threaded couplers, maybe their use will become apparent once i start putting the lift on. I'll lwt you know maybe they are just used as spacers somewhere.
  10. Awesome Thanks guys! Yeah its always a risk going second hand but Im on a pretty tight budget so decided to do it. It came with a box of bolts so Ill figure out what goes where. For the strearing link/ extension i think i read that you can use a legacy one, its a bit longer? SJR doesn't sell thoes right? What are the radius rod brackets? Is that something I need to get from SJR? I have heard he is open to selling portions of his kits. After looking at the SJR 4" kit on his website closer i believe I have everything. #7 is four blocks (sorry kinda hard to see in my picture) so i think they are the two cross member and two rear subframe brackets. the only thing i have the his doesn't is #2,3 and as you guys said #2 comes on the car and 3 may be in his bag of bolts.
  11. Hey guy, I recently found a used 4" SJR Lift Kit to put on my GL ( my first time doing a lift). What I got is a bit different from the current kit on SJRs website (maybe an older model?). I have read a couple threads but am struggling to figure out what goes where. Heres what I know: 1. Rear Strut Brackets? 2. No idea. 3. No idea. 4.No idea. 5.Rear Diff Bracket 6.Front Strut Spacers 7.Sub Frame Spacers ( I think ones set goes up by the front CVs not sure with the other ones)
  12. Thanks guys for the insight, I love the support for this community and I know i wouldn't have known the first place to start with my build, lifts, 6 lug conversion, shoot i didn't know Subaru made a dual range transmission till i started reading USMB stuff and to top it all off i wouldn't have known ADF was an option without this place so i think you all have convinced me to maybe spend a tad more but support this crazy group that dares to make soccer mom, grocery fetching, car seat fitting wagons into four wheelin machines! Love it!
  13. Thanks for the insight, it did look like the strut spacers were Alu but didn't say in his description, that is cool. I saw ADF has a 2-3 week lead time is SJR similar? Or does he usually have a couple kits in stock? I'm in no hurry but was curious. I saw from Loyale 2.7 ( and is stated on ADFs and SJRs pages) that you need to handle radiator hoses, steering joint, and some shifting linkage mods. Since you've done this a time or two apparently is there anything else to worry about? Thanks
  14. Hello all, I'm new here but have read this somewhere on here but for the life of me can't find it again. Im just starting my GL build, found an 89'GL 5 spd D/R with fuel injection and am planning on the 4" body lift. I am considering SJRs kit and ADFs. Currently ADFs is cheaper and I like that it's powder coated but otherwise appears the same. Could someone explain the difference in kits or if I'll be missing out on something by not going with SJRs? Thanks
