  1. Mine is the FWD automatic. I'll have to check out the fluid levels. I am not confident in the injectors because those are some of the only things I've not looked at yet over the years. Any recommendations for replacements if necessary? The coil and wires are newer so hopefully that's not the issue.
  2. Hey guys. So my 1992 Legacy Wagon has an issue where nowadays I'll sometimes start the car and go to drive away, but I can feel that it's just not got all the power you'd expect from depressing the gas pedal. The revs climb higher than normal while my foot is on the gas, but there's not a lot of power delivery. It essentially just feels like it's stuck in 1st or 2nd gear maybe, but I don't know. Usually after driving at speed for a few minutes it tends to return to normal and I have full power when depressing the gas pedal. If it helps, I also have occasional hard starts and an elusive issue with my starter not wanting to start the car. So, what do you think it could be?
  3. Hello all. As a preface, I've tried to do as much reading on this forum and others educating myself on which ATF might be appropriate for my 1992 Legacy. I purchased the car a little over 2 years ago without knowing any of the maintenance history, and even though the current fluid is still a brighter pink/red I'd like to change the transmission fluid in the near future. However, the manual calls for DEX II or IIE and obviously those are not available any longer. I've read some horror stories with people putting in newer, modern fluids that gave some real problems to these older 4EAT transmissions. Do you guys have any thoughts on what ATF I can put in my old Legacy?
  4. I hate to keep asking, but I just can't find these seals you're referring to. Could you by chance provide a link somewhere?
  5. I'm looking on Rock Auto for the valve cover gaskets, but I can't seem to find these seals you are referring to. Any thoughts?
  6. Hmm. I replaced the valve cover gaskets this time last year; could I just open up the valve covers again and reuse the same gaskets when I replace these bucket seals? Never heard of those.
  7. Hi guys. I've been stymied by the presence of oil on the lower half of the threads on each of my spark plugs except #4; that one only had a little bit. I've got a '92 Legacy wagon with only 72,000 miles on it. I regularly keep up with the maintenance, but I don't know how it was maintained before I purchased it two years ago. It never has oil on the tip of the plug or near the ceramic part, only on the bottom half of the threads. I've got a phase 1 EJ22, so the plugs don't go through the valve covers. Any thoughts? Is this a bad sign? Thanks.
  8. When it comes to fuel injectors, is it best to stick with OEM? Napa has OEM injectors for $160 each I think. Yikes! But I see on Rock Auto there's rebuilt options for ~$50. How do you check the injectors to see if they hold fuel pressure after shutdown?
  9. I've not noticed any changes with the morning dew or on rainy days. I haven't touched the coil or plug wires, so it's possible they could need replacing.
  10. That's good to know. I never realized that was the function of putting the pedal all the way to the floor.
  11. Gotcha. Thanks for the thoughts. I don't have to do anything with the fuel rail do I? Is it as simple as just buying four new injectors? I was reading the chapter in my Haynes repair manual last night and it seems pretty straightforward replacing the injectors. I've just never done it before.
  12. It's OBD 1; never had a CEL, but I checked the codes it had stored before I did the timing belt a couple months ago. It had the following codes stored: Crank angle sensor/circuit (no reference pulse) Starter switch (starter switch remains in ON of OFF position) Cam angle sensor (no position pulse) Airflow sensor (open or shorted airflow sensor circuit) I went to check any codes again yesterday but there didn't appear to be any. I guess they were erased from memory when I disconnected the battery. Is there an obvious way to check a leaky fuel injector? I've got no experience with those. Thanks.
