Growling rear end, 01 Forrester
Brick replied to Brick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheers to everyone who said "wheelbearing". The right rear was shot, had it cleaned up under warranty. It's nice to have a quiet car again.

Growling rear end, 01 Forrester
Brick replied to Brick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNope, pretty consistantly tied to wheel rotation, although I've had bearings on other cars behave in the manner that you describe. It has to be either the diff or bearing--I hope it's only the bearings, the car only has 56k. This one might be a job for the dealer as I don't have a lot of time to mess w. it right now. Sounds like rear bearings are a general issue on this vintage vehicle though. Thanks!

Growling rear end, 01 Forrester
Brick replied to Brick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDiff case is dry--no sign of leakage....yeah, I'm suprised the tire guys didn't catch the bearing (if that is what is its)

Growling rear end, 01 Forrester
Have an issue w. my 01 Forrester. I was getting what I thought was a lot of road noise from my tires (mc radials put on by the PO that were about shot), so I took the plunge and got some new rubber--minimal change. The sound from the rear, increases (sort of like growl of an off-road tire) w. wheel rotation speed. I'm now suspecting wheel bearing--altough this sounds like no other bearing I've ever heard. Is this a known issue w. the Forrester (56k on the clock)? Simple fix? Please advise, Thanks in advance Eric

Forester rear window sprayer
Brick replied to Brick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXavk: Good to know, and I checked it out. There seems to be no binding or flattening in the hose as it comes out of the rear gate, and the hose still has it's flexibility. I may however splice in some vaccuum tubing to keep this from being a problem. ferret: I'll check this one out, this type of thing was a pretty common issue on a car I owned some years ago (700 series Volvo). Most folks just kept a small supply of valves on the shelf at home and replaced them when they did a tune-up. How far downstream from the pump is the valve? Thanks guys! Eric

Forester rear window sprayer
Stupid question follows: Recently and for no apparent reason, the rear window sprayer on my new-to-me 01 Forester has stopped working. Caveats: 1. The pump still works (it makes noise at least) 2. I can feel movement in the hose when the pump is run--I don't feel pressure per se though. 3. Fluid is above the intake level for the rear sprayer. The fluid ran a little low, and I'm suspecting that I just have a big-ol air bubble in the system? Is this common? Or is there some other piece of plumbing I need to check? Thanks in advance, Eric

'02 Forrester with CEL
Brick replied to ~Ron~'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSince the vehicle in question is an '02, shouldn't be a big deal, but yeah, I agree, it seems a little goofy. For giggles I should try it on my 98 Legacy and see what happens.

'02 Forrester with CEL
Brick replied to ~Ron~'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDepends on what the fault code is. Might also be worthwhile to check w. Alldata to see if there are any known issues/recalls that might be related to the light (get the code first tho). e.

Mystery of the Check Engine Light
Brick replied to slysuby's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGot my "new-to-me" 01 Forester home from the dealer on Friday, and by Sunday the CEL had come on (had a little engine stutter releasing the clutch on Sun AM, light came on after that). Hope this doesn't turn out to be too big a pain in the rear....
