Thanks to all, I will begin the chase. I changed the plugs, OEM, less than 20K ago so should not be the problem. Will try the connections, filters etc. Did disconnect the battery to reset the code and cruise is working. Will see how long it takes for the Check engine light to return. Don't know about all, but the search function, for me, is of little use. The function turns up very little of the vast information out there. gerald

I have a 2005 outback llbean 3.0 with 146,000 miles. Today the check engine light came on with a blinking cruise control light. Had the code pulled at Advance which said P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold What is the fix? O2 sensors? up or down stream is there a way to determine? Best place to purchase and what brand? I assume down stream by the wording of the code?? Suggestions are greatly appreciated. I did replace the pcv valve about 1000 miles but not OEM. Also I believe there are oil leaks around the valve covers that should be fixed. Thanks in advance for your wisdom. gerald in NC 2005 subaru outback llbean

I have 2 2005 subaru LLbean outbacks and just got around to changing the cabin air filters. PITA. Question; neither subs had a filter in the holder and since I bought one of them new it has not been changed and mistakenly left out. Is it common for subaru's to come without the cabin air filter? Is this common to the 2005 outback series? Do subaru's come without the cabin air filter installed and if so why? Just curious. monk in NC

Axle evaluation

Has anyone tried the aforementioned axles from "theimportexperts". I understand that accepted wisdom is to always go OEM; ......but having said that I am still interested in what experience there is out in Subaru land with these axles? Curious.....any experience? Monk- 5 replies

Thanks Elite Master, Reason I am looking is the original began clicking so looking for solutions. From what you said, sounds as if best to purchase a used half axle and reboot. Are the half axles for the 3.0 2005 same as the 4 cylinder subaru's. Monk- 5 replies

I have a 2005 llbean outback 3.0 and seeking experience, evaluations of the heavy duty axles. "Theimportexperts" have standard axles and heavy duty axles. Has anyone used these axles? Are the heavy duty axles worth the price over the standard and compared to the OEM? Do the heavy duty axles boots last longer? Are they better than OEM? Your experience is appreciated. Thank you Monk in NC
