  1. 2005 subaru outback llbean (6 cylinder) 162k miles. The check engine light is on with flashing cruise light. Any ideas or thoughts? Monk in NC
  2. I changed the O2 sensors and problem corrected. While under there I changed all O2 sensors and the oil cooler O ring. Thanks again for all your help. Monk
  3. Thanks to all, I will begin the chase. I changed the plugs, OEM, less than 20K ago so should not be the problem. Will try the connections, filters etc. Did disconnect the battery to reset the code and cruise is working. Will see how long it takes for the Check engine light to return. Don't know about all, but the search function, for me, is of little use. The function turns up very little of the vast information out there. gerald
  4. I have a 2005 outback llbean 3.0 with 146,000 miles. Today the check engine light came on with a blinking cruise control light. Had the code pulled at Advance which said P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold What is the fix? O2 sensors? up or down stream is there a way to determine? Best place to purchase and what brand? I assume down stream by the wording of the code?? Suggestions are greatly appreciated. I did replace the pcv valve about 1000 miles but not OEM. Also I believe there are oil leaks around the valve covers that should be fixed. Thanks in advance for your wisdom. gerald in NC 2005 subaru outback llbean
  5. I have 2 2005 subaru LLbean outbacks and just got around to changing the cabin air filters. PITA. Question; neither subs had a filter in the holder and since I bought one of them new it has not been changed and mistakenly left out. Is it common for subaru's to come without the cabin air filter? Is this common to the 2005 outback series? Do subaru's come without the cabin air filter installed and if so why? Just curious. monk in NC

  7. Have 2 '05 ll beans; one wagon, one sedan. Both had belt/pully tensioner issues. Very easy fix. Also both had bad wheel bearings. Also an easy fix. Little dash noise that is annoying. Otherwise an excellent car, allong with the above comments with the spark plugs.
  8. Any one out there willing to help with a car fax check Thanks in advance 4S3BD6353S6236908 Monk50 in NC
  9. Has anyone tried the aforementioned axles from "theimportexperts". I understand that accepted wisdom is to always go OEM; ......but having said that I am still interested in what experience there is out in Subaru land with these axles? Curious.....any experience? Monk
  10. Thanks Elite Master, Reason I am looking is the original began clicking so looking for solutions. From what you said, sounds as if best to purchase a used half axle and reboot. Are the half axles for the 3.0 2005 same as the 4 cylinder subaru's. Monk
  11. I have a 2005 llbean outback 3.0 and seeking experience, evaluations of the heavy duty axles. "Theimportexperts" have standard axles and heavy duty axles. Has anyone used these axles? Are the heavy duty axles worth the price over the standard and compared to the OEM? Do the heavy duty axles boots last longer? Are they better than OEM? Your experience is appreciated. Thank you Monk in NC
  12. It could be the coil. Had a similar problem on a 95. Also NGK plugs the only ones to make the 95 run well.
  13. Thanks, will check. All good suggestions and greatly appreciated. Monk Still hunting for the relay location. Thanks
  14. Thanks. If anyone know specifically where the relay is located I would appreciate the help. Thanks
  15. A friend has a 2001 Outback vdc. The heater blower stopped blowing. It will not blow on any speed. I found fuses behind the change door to the left of the steering wheel, in addition to the fuse box under the hood. All fuses were good. Can anyone tell me where exactly is the blower relay on the 2001 Outback VDC? Thanks monk in NC
  16. Make certain you torque the lug nuts on your wheels using a cross hatch pattern. You may already do this but the uneven tightening of the nuts may cause the rotors to warp. I believe the torque specs are 75-80 ft pounds, but check to make certain. If this is wrong maybe some others will chime in with the proper specs. Monk50 in NC
  17. Car is completely stock. Think I am going to wrap the cat directly under the cv boot and see how that works. Monk50
  18. Thanks, I use the OEM cv boots, but traffic driving still cooks the boots. I was hoping for a method to sheld the boots from the heat given off by the cat located just below the inner cv boot. I have idea's of fabricating a shield from aluminum with fiberglass sandwiched between. Attach this to the engine bolt just above that would create a barrier between the boot and cat. When the engine is hot and the car stopped; heat from the cat cooks the cv boot and shortens it's life. Was hoping somone had already developed a solution. Thanks for any and all input. Monk50
  19. Questions? I have 2 2005 outback llbean models with the 3.0 engine. The inner cv boots are right above the catalytic converter and constantly "cooks" the inner cv boots; especially in stop and go traffic. Any ideas and remedies? Anyone made a shield that attaches to the engine? What about wraping the converter with the same material that I see motorcycle exhaust pipes have done. Would this change/harm/cause any problems with the O2 sensor etc? Would appreciate any help suggestions, contacts, web sites to help with this problem. Thanks gerald in NC
  20. Has anyone tried the Falken tires on your Subaru? I have a 2005 llbean outback wagon and a 2005 outback llbean sedan both 6 cylinders. Would appreciate any feedback and tire size, wear, conditions etc. I live in piedmont NC and travel to Boone on occasion; therefore do not see much snow. Thanks Monk in NC
  21. It is not capitalism that causes diesel fuel cost. Guess who? Governemnt has boutique blends with different requirements in each state therefore, just like always, it is governments intrusion with EPA and their 473 different regulatory agencies that are the cause of most problems in the US.!!! May I say Keystone, Anwar, run the rigs out of the Gulf, let Mexico drill, China off our coast, again it is governent that creates most of the problems that interfere with the workings of free enterprise, the system that creates efficiency. 22. Having read all the posts concerning the same size tire/wear/ diameter to prevent problems with 4-wheel drive caused me to wonder. If the a difference in tire size as small as 1/4 inch can cause problems what about a differential in tire pressure? Makes me think that if you do not keep tire pressure the same on each axle and maybe the same pressure in all 4 tires, would that cause problems? Just curious in NC. Monk
