  1. If it is either of these things, or something else, what would cause it? I had the oil changed on Wednesday. I've had the oil changed every 6k kms by Subaru and drive really conservatively. There is only 19k kms on the car. Today's drive was 15 minutes on the highway at 110 km/h with no traffic. I have to work tomorrow. Should I be skipping work to have this looked at ASAP? thanks
  2. its continuous like beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep it lasted at least 5 minutes. The temperature gauge didnt show any signs of over heating. Didnt detect any odd smells but i have a horrible sense of smell.
  3. Ive just come in from a drive with my 2005 Forester NA. I noticed that there was and still is (3 mins after turning the car off) a very high pitched ringing/beep sound coming from the engine area. Its so high pitched that its difficult to locate exactly where in the engine area that it's coming from. It sounds much like the sound when your ears ring. You know if you've just left a really loud concert and you're lying in bed, you hear that ringing in your ears. If you were to stand infront my car right now, thats exactly what it would sound like. Does anyone know what this sound might be? It cant be a good thing. Im wondering how bad it is and if its safe (for me and/or the car) to be driving. Thanks everyone.
  4. I'll be needing to put some cross bars on the stock roof rails of an '05 Forester X. All I will be needing it for is to strap some surfboards down to the roof. Looking at the roof rails, there doesnt seem to be anywhere to tie anything down to. Im wondering what cross bars people would recommend. Ive never had a roof rack before so I really dont know much about them. Can you get any brand name ones that will fit right into the Subaru roof rails? If so, are they any cheaper than the Subaru ones? What brands do you recommend for the best value. Im on a tight budget. Also, how do you go about tieing things down to the car if there are no loops or anything in the roof rails? Thanks for all your suggestions and ideas.
  5. thanks for the suggestion... I need the car sooner than later though because the car im driving now is just about to bite it... passenger/front strut is already useless.
  6. The Special Edition (SE) is the X with: heated front seats moonroof leather steering wheel/shifter/hand break cargo cover rear protective mat Im not sure what it works out to in American $. Im sure its comperable to the price of the X in the states. The base price of the X up here is 28000 and the SE is 29000. So to me, I think all those goodies are worth the extra grand... and in this case the MSRP of the base X.
  7. Hey everyone. I have phoned around and 28000 seems to be the best price I can get with 3.8% for 5 years. The retail price is 29000. Do you think this is a fair deal considering the 2006's are out for 29000 with 5.8%? Would i be getting ripped off if I paid this? Thanks for any suggestions...
  8. Does anyone know what rebates or incentives are presently available on the 2005 Forester X or X special edition? If not, how would I go about finding this informaiton? Ive done a web search with no luck. Im guessing that if I have to ask a dealer about the rebate, Im unlikely to get it? thanks for the help,
  9. thank you for all of your responses. Im wondering the same thing that someone mentioned earlier. Maybe the lack of problems in 2004's and 2005's is attributable more to the fewer kms on these engines. No one seems to know what changes were made to the engine in regards to fixing the head gasket problem. Anyone?
  10. I know that 2003 and newer models of the 2.5 liter engine are supposed to be fixed and not have trouble with head gaskets. In the forums I've heard of a few 2003 models having blown head gaskets. Has anyone heard of any 2004 or newer Subs having trouble with head gaskets? Im hoping to buy a 2005 or 2006 Forester but the thought of the head gasket problem is making me really nervous. Does anyone know what, if anything, was done to the engine to fix it, and how big a risk there is for problems in the 2005 and 2006 engine? Thanks very much.
  11. Ive read elsewhere that the 2006 Forester will have a DOHC 2.5 engine. Do you think this means they've tried to address the head gasket failure problem? Do you think this will make the engine any more or less likely to have problems with the head gasket? What are your thoughts on the new DOHC vs the old SOHC? Thank you.
  12. Hey Everyone, Im considering buying a 2005 Subaru Forester. A while back, I remember a reviewer on a car show saying something about the Subaru AWD system on auto transmissions being superior to that of the 5 speed. I wont be doing any 'real' offroading. I will be driving in snow, gravel, mud, and maybe ice and sand. Is the standard tramsission AWD system inferior to the auto AWD system? Also, how important is the limited slip rear dif. for what I will be driving in? Thanks very much for all of your help/opinnions.
