  1. Hey guys, I've put a lot of love and time into my old Subie wagon, but I just bought a house and don't really have the room or time for the car anymore. I'm thinking of selling it, but am not sure what it's worth. I'd like to get $1500 for it, but I don't know if I'm crazy for asking that much. I'd like some honest opinions on what it might be worth... Here's the info: 1982 GL Wagon, ea81 japanese motor with hydraulic lifters Car has 160K, so I would have to guess motor has somewhere between 50K and 80K on it (assuming motor had 30K on it when it was replaced, and car had between 100K and 140K on it...) Weber 32/36 DGEV (electronic choke) rebuilt with many new parts and low profile filter (approx 1 year / 1500 miles on it) and custom aluminum adapter plate. Full 2.25" custom exhaust with turbo muffler and 2" pipes from the heads to a 2.5" merge GM 100A alternator (needs new diodes, can be rebuilt for ~$65, and I'm willing to do so if you want) and additional 8 ga. wire to battery Custom short shifter on 4speed D/R 4WD transmission with all new shift bushings. AC parts have all been removed and non-ac ducting for ventilation system installed. Custom PCV system, emissions/EGR removed. Front swaybar removed for offroad use. Other new parts with <1K miles: Throttle & clutch cables Front pads / resurfaced rotors OE clutch / resurfaced flywheel Pass. front balljoint Front wheel bearings Accessory belts 2-row radiator, upper/lower hoses & OE tstat 4 cheap Walmart tires + full size spare factory refurbished Optima Redtop sealed battery CB, whip, and custom fender mount (works very well) Used GL10 front seats with custom mounts in great shape Upgraded NAPA ignition coil There are some other things I can't recall, but I have documentation (receipts & work orders) for everything. I will update this list when I actually post for sale. Problems: There is a slow leak from one power steering hose. As I mentioned, the diodes in the alternator need to be replaced. I believe this is because the 300W KC spots on the front suck too much power at idle. I am not planning on selling the lights with the car, but a two-battery setup with an isolator should solve this. Oil pressure gauge does not work. Has worked, likely electrical problem. Otherwise, the car runs great. Motor runs strong, all fluids were replaced recently, and it's done amazing offroad. I've taken it for several multi-day trips and never had any problems. I have some spare parts: ignition coil (removed when working) oil pump some other stuff (gotta check) I've put well over $2000 in new parts into the car, plus more hours than I can count. I may be willing to include some other extras (Hi-lift, tools, extra fluids) to sweeten the deal if necessary. Thanks for any input! Aaron
  2. This may sound stupid, but is it for your third brake light? In the spoiler? I assume that one is hooked up and working, but that's the only other thing I can think of that's in that area. I'll look on mine if I get the chance and see if it's there too. Genuine Subaru amps in these cars (with the premium sound package) is under the driver's seat. I call it the sandwich, cause it's a 6 inch sub!!! It might be smaller than that, but I think it's funny.
  3. http://s38.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid38.photobucket.com/albums/e143/evonschu/Main2/AaronHill.flv My Subie smoked the hill. My friend driving a big lifted Bronco made it up this hill, but not on the same path I took, he kept rolling back and getting his front tire about a foot off the ground. We were scared he'd roll it so I told him to take a different route up. Go subies! This was with stock suspension and cheap allseasons from Walmart. Hahah!
  4. Nothing wrong with that... I believe a diet diverse in alcoholic intake (and non-alcoholic too!) is healthy. Although I prefer beer on most days, a nice glass of wino is always pleasurable, especially when it involves touring the wineries! Plus, wine cures heart problems... right?
  5. Sweet pics Gregg. We should go up there sometime... I've been wanting to get to that OHV park for a while. Mounting my lights up tonight. Can't wait for the night run... See you Friday! Aaron
  6. I'm installing my CB this week, I'll have it preset to ch. 5
  7. Awesome, I'm definitely down to help out. I'll probably wander off to some trails too that evening. I'll see you guys Friday!
  8. Hey guys, I finally committed to come to the show! I'll be bringing a couple of friends and camping gear, can't wait to meet all of you. I'm really looking forward to going on some runs up in the hills, Hood River is such a purty area. What usually goes on Friday nights? Is it slow, or pretty busy? I'm trying to decide whether I should come down Friday afternoon or Sat. AM. Thanks!!! Aaron
  9. I think you're fine to drill there. Are you routing something directly to that vent, or is it just a vent from the engine compartment? You might consider a hood scoop to vent fresh air in addition to the vents for more fresh air flow, if that's what you're thinking. Ahem... not to sound rude, but I've seen a lot of 'ricers' put fender vents on their hondas and personally think they're in poor taste. To be honest, I usually laugh at them, because they're not functional in any way, and they're imitating a German luxury automaker's engineering on a Japanese economy car (Not to say I don't like Hondas - most reliable car out there, IMO). Now, off the soapbox. It probably wouldn't be too hard to make those out of the fender itself. I know people on here have done so just by cutting and bending the sheet metal. Might make for a cleaner look if it's integrated into the fender... Just a thought.
  10. Just don't forget what pulled you OFF the car when you got stuck on top of it... See, these mostly stock subes are good for something
  11. I believe you can get fluid specifically for LSDs. Alternatively there are friction modifiers you could add, but I'd say just get the lube made for limited slips. -Aaron EDIT: here's Amsoil's additive http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ada.aspx Motul LSD fluid http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/motuloil.html Redline http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlubricants.asp Kaaz flud http://www.kaazusa.com/products/products.htm
  12. Dudes, we had fun. Both of you got stuck. It's all good. I think that your car is too nice to go wheelin' G, but all that means is that if I had it I wouldn't do the stuff you did. That's why _I_ own a beater to go wheelin' with. I was very impressed with both of your rigs, I'm pretty amazed at what a stock height Outback can do. Although it can't drive on other cars like a lifted one can:headbang: Next time I'll leave my recovery tools at home and we'll see who has to leave their car behind I painted my fender guys, so I need to go get it muddy so it matches the rest of the car... It's a whole lot brighter than the rest of my rig. I'm almost tempted to paint the rest of it so it matches, but that's way too much work for a $130 car. -A
  13. @ OB. I'm going to be out in Hillsboro in the early afternoon on Sat, there's some good trails towards Vernonia if anyone wanted to take a little adventure out there. I found a nice one a month or two back but my friend's bronco got stuck and we spent like 3 hours getting him out so we didn't make it any further. Getting stuck is ! But I haven't had to abandon a car yet so I guess that's a good thing I think I need to get a mattock for choppin' stuff. EDIT: Scrap, I'll be open a lot more weekends in the future 'cause my girlfriend is moving across the country. So we should go check out the FS roads by Ripplebrook soon.
  14. These have an internal volt. reg, right? I'd say to disconnect your pos. batt. cable and use a multimeter and check the line going from your alt. output to the fusible link for continuity (Don't know WHICH fusible link it is, but should be one of the 3 or 4 you in the box there, or you could just check to the battery terminal too...). Also check the exciter line to the batt. That would tell you if the lines are good. Then check the same line to ground, and that would tell you if it's shorting on a ground line. After that checking the harness might be your only bet. You also might be able to use the voltmeter functionality with the battery hooked up to see if it's picking up any voltage with the motor not running and the ignition set to 'on'.
  15. Hells yeeeeeayah! OK, so officially, we're meeting at the park in Scotts Mills. Look at the google map above and my directions, it's not too hard to find. The park is on the left hand side just after you turn right onto crooked finger rd. 12:00 noon it is. I think I get cell reception out there, so if anyone else wants to come just call me so we can wait. I don't have a FRS radio... but I can yell reeeeal loud!!!
