  1. Sorry, I am not jumping on the bad alternator band wagon. If this has been happening for "weeks" the battery and thus the starting would be an issue. Guess you have tried turning the dimmer control when they go out? First thought was bad contact in it. Tried turning the lights on/off/on/off? Get the wiring diagram and find where their common ground point is. I think some people are thinking "the warning lights" these are an indicater of a bad alt.
  2. IAC valve (on top of the upper rad hose gooseneck) is knackered. (black object in below photo) If it were the FI coolant thermosensor it would not fire up as easy as you say. Might want to check it's contacts they do like to gather a green colored corrosion as seen here.
  3. G, I guess most of us agree see post #11, #12 and #19 on not doing this procedure.
  4. Some reports have surfaced of the damper being held on with locktite. This due to the crankshaft bolt coming loose problem . Gentle propane torch heat may help CAREFUL of the rubber isolation ring!!
  5. thats kewl A, sounds like you have the bases covered. Sorry I couldn't answer the Vortex marking question. Is it possible the pulley you have came from a Vortex made before the 87 change to the spider manifold? The window is visable on these thus no need for the damper marking.
  6. You don't happen to operate this vehicle with the HVAC system in "re-circulate" a large part of the time do you? Do you have a sunroof? As a side note: I used to do the same trick. I had a 1500 Watt "cube" heater mounted in the car. (metal pedestal) Plugged into a timer it would make the car nice and toasty. Then I wised up and got a remote starter. Pennies in gas vs pennies in 'trisity.
  7. +1000 By chance do you have one of those "magic boxes" to convert the trailer lights to work with the Baja lights??? I reread the entire post and saw no mention of this? That could be the problem.
  8. if you are freindly with a multimeter? We can get you the switch wiring for the connector under the panel covering the lower steering coluum. Then you can track it down to the delay control unit or the switch.
  9. Just a little FYI first, these are called DOJs Double Offset Joints - they are not just CVs they have the ability to move in and out for suspension movement. If the bands are tight, are you sure you are not seeing some weeping of gear lube from the diff. The seal at the stub is known to cause this. I didn't mean to be rude with the FYI. Just wanted to clear up the nomenclature.
  10. It's "T"'d into the hose for the remote breather (air filter). I think this is the line you mean, it used to run to a fitting on the lower part of the air cleaner. I added the remote breather (pictured ) to keep "gunk" out of the air filter for the Weber. Hope this helps.
  11. Gary, the plug is no doubt tapered. To assist in this endevoure I suggest you take a small triangular file and file notches in the thread to simulate a tap. Only a few threads from the bottom of the tap. Thes notches are places for the chips to reside. Here is what it looks like (crude drawing but effective?) Run it in a few turns take it out clean the chips then coat with the ju ju and run it home past the filed notches.
  12. Thanks Cougar, the hamfisted part comes from the side pin config being wrong. There may be a single filament lamp with the offset side pins?? Why it would be this way is a question. The double filaments has offset side pins so the higher wattage filament gets connected to the brake light.
  13. Come on Mary, quit being such a "tease" making us go to your alblum. Here is her most excellent Brat (note new gen Brat in background)
  14. I agree with Cougar and Nipper Here is another remote possiblity. Someone "hamfisted", changed the bulb to a single pin. This single pin shorts out the brake and parking light contacts in the lamp holder. I have seen this in Blokemobiles.(AH, Triumphs, MG's)
  15. You are most welcome, I doctored the pict to show what GD lists and to get it to fit most monitors. Don't for get to check the venturi problem. That may be an issue with your secondary problem. Do not need the top off to see it. I have opened up several of mine. It's real simple not like taking the top off a Carter AFB.
  16. MF did you happen to see this picture in your search? Thanks to Pyro925 for the Pict and GD for the list of jets Gives you a good look at what you will be seeing The post is also excellent (GD tells all when it comes to Weber's, him and Big Jim are your "go-to guys" ) Here is the post on the venturi problem and new gasket http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84804&highlight=venturi Here is the post on the jet sizes http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85403&highlight=main+jet%2A
  17. Thanks Connie, you're the sweetest. Willy the wunder wagon sits retired now (like her owner ;^) ) She hasn't been started for over a year but I'd bet dollars to dognutz, she fire right up if I asked. BTW those are 15"'r's on her, 205/55 I think And you are correct 14's are even a hard local find. Thus the 15's.
  18. Howdy Adrian, Since the engine is not in the car, can't you get to a postion to see the flywheel window? Or more simply bring #1 up to the top of the piston travel. (wooden stick in the sparking plug hole). then Look closely at the pulley, if the mark is not there --- punch or scribe one that lines up with 0 deg.
  19. don't forget the inhibitor switch, both VSSs and reverse light wiring. I'm sure you knew that Larry, sorry.
  20. one reason Dav at least around here 13" tires are getting hard to find. and the options for 14" are wide and varried. 13" is almost "take what dey got" deal sometimes. Plus they look better.
  21. Frank please get back to us when the new bat is installed. I do not like this reading with the new alt in place. If you mean when the engine is running over 1000 RPM. Bad bat or not the alt should have a voltage output closer to 14 Vdc when the engine is running at this speed. Maybe the wiring to / from the alt is also suspect?
  22. Painter you are not doing justice to yourself Before After
  23. Thanks Phiz, that is one way kewl tribute!! I know you'll miss her. Here's gidonya mate for her replacement. Thanks again for sharing your trials, tribulations and most of all your info.
  24. I am sure you have heard of these but do not have the where with all for one. A "silent pager alarm" The remote (in your pocket) beeps or vibrates when the alarm is triggered. Car makes no noise. You walk up and say "Hey How you doin' " ect. Had one in my Merc 450SL Cops stops to check out why this car was parked where it was (not a real Mercedes district) I also had a infra-red motion detector (convertible ya know) he triggered it. I came out with my nine cocked and ready to rock Can you spell --- UPS!!
