  1. I've used this method for years but I have to ask, is it not true in these engines this can not be used to find the cyl. with the bad big end bearing? With the wasted spark system in play pulling say #1 will kill spark to #3 also. I know this is mute as one would be changing all the bearing if one was toast but .....
  2. no hijack KOB the discussion centered on the entire operation. What you said is applicable to use of any sealant ect.
  3. Please accept my apologies. I see what you mean by a one being caused by the other. I do not think the heater blowing luke warm air on occasion is connected to the CEL problem.. but then again, we'll see soon I hope. Glad to read Shucks reads the codes.
  4. This is an attempt to fix the heater problem. As pointed out it could possibly be caused by an air bubble trapped in the cooling system. This may be how the air got in, if it did. Not the CEL issue. Sometimes if you have two problems it is best to start two posts. This will avoid this type of "corn-fusion" (as us country bumkins say)
  5. I'm sorry, in his haste to help, I believe Sir Nipper made a type-0. he meant CEL and tranny temp light You might call Shucks to see if they offer the code read. It has been reported that some of these places will NOT clear codes only read them. Please bring the code number back. Pardon me for asking, has any work ever been done to the cooling system? Antifreeze change, hose leak fixed, ect. Is there fluid in the overflow bottle (the white plastic container next to the rad cap)? Good luck, hope the CEL is something simple.
  6. code should be stored here is a good thread on the ABS with how to check the codes http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84715&highlight=ABS%2A
  7. Shawn, Please check the rear wheel bearings. I know they were replaced, please read on. The rear wheel bearing on these (Imp chassis) are notorious - they will go bad in that amount of miles when they are not repacked with the proper lube. Some were shipped with the incorrect lube (shippng only lube) and needed repacked with wheel bearing grease. . This is a documented issue I'd hate to see you chasing a red herring.
  8. Welcome to the good ship USMB may your stay be long and fruitful. As for your issues. Sounds like you might have an air bubble trapped in the coolant system. System needs "burped" From one of our original "burpmasters" board name: Setright Raise front of car (on ramps for instance). "The correct burp is to run without the cap on, until the radiator fan starts running. That means the thermostat is open and all the air can be circulated out." As for your Check Engine Light (CEL) Autozone will read the codes stored for free. Have this done and bring back the code e.g.P0XXXX Again welcome to the board hope this helps. I'm sure other's will add their "dose paysos"(sic)
  9. I don't think Mr. gbh knows this is on the side of the car by the fuel door. Thus being the case, I see no reason for this "Unless you are prepared to drop the gas tank out of the car" Have you ever heard of POR 15? Have a look see at this page http://www.por15.com/ Many folks here swear by it.
  10. Hi Nick, here are a couple that might interest you http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84998 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85295
  11. Well done write up Bob, excellent pictures. I'd like to see Jerry's kit for this conv. Anybody got pictures of it?
  12. I have 2 x 86's and an 85 - none have 02 or ECU Remember no ECU no 02 I had an 87 4wd GL wagon (carbed) - no 02
  13. Sir, MSmith -- from cars 101 1996: First year for the 'real' Outback. Also first year for the 2.5L engine, which in '96 runs on premium fuel and is only available with an automatic transmssion. The manual uses the 2.2L engine and has the hill holder clutch. Will says "'96 OBW 5spd"
  14. This a highly questionable proceedure. With the computers on board a voltage spike caused by this can cause "brain damage". I for one do not recommend this.
  15. Is this what you are refering to? (MAP/Baro sensor and exchange solenoid) If so see this post about it's error code and such. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84813&highlight=exchange
  16. my Peugeot looks identical I'll get details soon. "Pugwats" have been my favorite bike for a little bit of time (35 years). Something special about riding one of this vintage bike. Many congrats on the find and well done!!
  17. GL-10 must we guess it's a turbo MPFI? sure sounds like a vacuum line heat baked into hard plastic and broken. i.e vacuum leak. The un patentable GD test. Use the carb cleaner - squirt test on possible locations, when the engine changes pitch WHOOP dar it is.
  18. snow worries mate no need to disconnect the bat leave the gear shift in nuetral I wired my "toad" so the plug would run the lights on the toad (brake and parking lights are easy turn sigs a bit more work). You can mount an aux light bar easily. As Gyoas said leave the key in the ig with the steering in the un lock position. I have put probably 5000 miles on my Sube as a "Dingy".
  19. yes it could be as simple as a clogged open PCV. This would be a large vacuum leak needing possibly more fuel to off set it.
  20. The FI coolant thermosensor wants replaced. Is my bet When it's output is out of range the ECU defaults to running the fans to keep the engine from overheating.
  21. That is a nice lookin' set of wheels!! (found this on Google images) Sorry for this insolent hijack. I've been riding a 1969 Peugeot since 73 looks very similar. (pretty half has a like new women's model) What part of "the line" was this bike.
