  1. I put some WRX wheels on my 97 OBS and it looks a million times better than the stock steels and discount auto parts store hubcaps do it
  2. I'm hoping that's all. I don't have any time to do this during the week (well, or any idea of how to) so I'll be waiting until Saturday. However, I did buy some of that Super Concentrated STP Fuel Injector gas additive and pour it all in there when I refueled today. It was the same code. Checked it at AutoZone today... also reset it. We'll see what happens thanks PS: Any help on the fuel injector job would be appreciated
  3. Light came back on. Tomorrow, going back to AutoZone to see if they pull the same code. It turned on while idling at a railway crossing... second time that has happened (turned back on and off since last post)! we'll see.
  4. Possibly. Anyway, yesterday I was able to get the new stud in the front in less than an hour (starting with jacking the car up and ending at setting it down). The hardest part BY FAR was finding a stud with the correct thread pitch and knurl. AutoZone and Discount Auto Parts/Advance Auto Parts were pretty much useless there; they kept on telling me that the stud I was showing them that I removed from my car was the wrong one. Yeah, buddy, I'm sure. I ended up having to drive to the local Subaru dealer to buy a stud for $3.83!!! But, as fas as I'm concerned, it was worth it, as it slid right in with little effort.
  5. I've been meaning to ask this! I just haven't because it hasn't rained here in a while. Is the rug right behind the driver's seat a little damp too? Any help, please!
  6. Thank you! However, would you be able to tell me how to get to the point where I can even do that? The back of the studs don't look very accessable. I understand that I need to remove the brake assembly to do this...
  7. So, today I was changing the ugly wheels on my '97 OBS to the WRX rims I bought on eBay . Everything was going well until I was removing the last lug nut on the front driver's side wheel. The nut was tight, and when I finally got it off, it took half of the stud with it. Aaaaanyway, I need to replace the stud and I have no idea how to do it! Any advise on how to replace the stud would be greatly appreciated. PS, would it be terrible if I were to drive around on only 4 lugs for a few days until I get it fixed?
  8. Well, this morning I changed the spark plugs and wires and reset the ECU (well, I had to remove the battery to get to spark plugs 2 & 4 easily). Since driving it about 20 miles since 7:30am, I haven't had the CEL come on. When idling, the car doesn't do the "putt-putt" thing (for lack of a better term). But, the spark plug for cylinder 2 looked good! In fact, all plugs looked quite new. Maybe it was a damaged wire. I hope that's all that it was. Hopefully that will be the last I see of the CEL for a looooooong time. Thanks, and I'll update
  9. The CEL has been on for a while. So, today I went to AutoZone and they pulled up code P0302 from my car. I understand that this means "misfire on cylinder 2." After fiddling with the distributor cap, spark plug wires, and the immediately related goodness, I started the car up and the CEL was not on. It did eventually turn on. So, since I do not know what work has been done on this car (I bought it just last Wednesday, CEL did not come on during test drive), I'm planning on at least changing all 4 spark plugs this weekend. What else should I do? I'm planning on doing all the work with my father, the quasi-mechanic, so as to not spend extra money at the Subaru dealer. Any help is appreciated. thank you Brett
  10. I just bought a '97 OBS and I've noticed the CEL on as well (it did not show when I test drove it last Saturday). Of course, this makes me nervous, as I just bought it yesterday... tomorrow after work I'm stopping at the local AutoZone, who I understand will read the codes for free. I hope that nothing goes wrong between now and then, as I will have to drive it.
  11. Thanks to all that replied. I've been looking on eBay, and haven't found any just yet. I won't be buying from the dealer, because I'll have to wait for the to order it... and pay $180. I'll get one. I need to, after all! I bought the car! Dealer delivered it to my house today. Thanks again
  12. The '97 OBS that I may be purchasing this week does not have the retractable cargo cover. Is there anywhere that I can buy an OEM replacement for this part? Also, what years in that OBS generation were the bodies the same so that I don't have to limit my search to only 1997? Thanks, Brett
