  1. Yeah mtsmiths I live north of you in the Banff area and the snow has been great. My 84 Turbowagon has been lovin' it
  2. I hope you don't have the opposite problem I just went through. My Turbo would be almost impossible to keep running when it was cold. The engine would just sit there and flood until the fast idle would kick off, after that it would run like a top. After checking everything under the sun I was told it was the ECU acting up. I didn't believe it but I picked up another one, hooked it up and the problem was gone. Good luck finding your gremlin.
  3. Hey that 84 Turbo Coupe has the same wheels I do (star aluminium). I believe they come from an 81 coupe. Is this correct? I am glad to get the ECU Whippet but was sorry to see the damage on your daughters coupe from where it came. :boohoo: Two coupes hit in front of your houses! Hope this isn't a trend! I think I'll find a safe place to park my 84 Turbowagon.
  4. My dad did a EA81 swap on his 78 Brat. As I remember there was some change with the motor mounts but it fit OK. Kernzie
  5. Oh yeah, forgot to ask. Where is the flasher unit for the signal lights located on my turbo. I looked under the steering wheel where the ECU is located and where my manual says it is but I can't find it. Any ideas?? Kernzie
  6. Thanks to Whippet for sending me an ECU. It works!!! Problem solved. Thanks to USMB for providing a forum where we can get the information and parts we need to keep our Soobs alive and kicking. I was starting to feel like I was alone in the world having a rare car with nobody besides a Subaru mechanic who knew anything about it Word to the wise - Whippet is a good guy and was very good about sending it right away cheers:drunk: Word to the wise2 - If you're going to send things to Canada spend the extra $$ and send them by courier. I told Whippet to send them regular snail mail to save money and it took close to a MONTH! to get here! As well make sure that you explain in detail what is in the package or our Customs people will get even slower. Kernzie
  7. I found that My '84 wagon which was origninally from BC, was rusting from the top down due to all rain out there on the Wet Coast. The rain would come down the inside door frame rain gutters and the ends were rusted through so the water would prematurally fall down the door frame and into the car. It took me awhile before I figured it out but when I did I just broke out the silicone to shore up the gutters and my floor was finally dry. Probably not your particular problem but one maybe others can watch for on their EA81's Kernzie
  8. I'd be interested in finding out as well. I don't remember if it was my Dad's 78 Brat or my 80 Wagon but as I was new to Subaru back then I didn't know it was on the front wheels. I was trying to show off and pull an emergency brake spin but as you can guess things didn't work out too good and I ended up in a snowbank. Oh well... Kernzie
  9. I put a 4sp in my 84 Turgowagon and you have to use the rear-end from the standard and the driveshaft. Not sure it the Brat would be any different. Hooking up 'back-up' lights is a problem in this application as the switch for the auto is different than the standard and it is a pain to try and rig something up. Kernzie
  10. I learned on Autoline Detroit the other day that GM has arranged for Fuji Heavy to build the new SAAB 2 series car. I think it will be an Impreza with SAAB sheet metal. Anybody else have info on this? Kernzie
  11. My dad had a Japanese motor put in his Nissan Maxima. A few small changes and it was in and has been running fine for a lot of miles now. In Japan the inspections and taxes etc. get very high after 5-7 years and most cars even though they are perfectly good and low mileage, are either sold overseas or parted out. This is done to create artificial demand for domestic car sales in Japan to help the Japanese manufacturers. Until the Russian Gov't put a stop to it (they are left hand drive like North America) Russian cargo ships would drop off their goods and fill the decks with used cars. Many go to NZ etc. as well. Someone mentioned a Skyline GTR. Nissan has keeping the GTR in Japan (on purpose) but in the last few years they have been selling it in the UK and some other right-drive locales. Now that they are selling the Infiniti version of the Skyline in North America (G35) maybe just maybe, they will make a left-drive GTR. When I lived in Japan, Subaru had these neat little 4WD delivery trucks running around. I almost brought one home with me. Kernzie
  12. FYI. The car is an 84 (old body style) and I had the auto taken out and a 4sp put in. Rebuilt the engine - new heads were $400 Cdn a side! If anybody has a ECU or wants a good parts car e-mail me. (I have an extra rad, aluminium rims with summer tires from an 82 2-door, gold painted stock rims with winter tires and some odds and ends as well) Kernzie
  13. Thanks for all the responses! FYI - Checked the resistance of the temp sensor, its OK. Replaced it and cleaned the contacts anyway, still no luck Subaru guys (non-dealer) swear it is the ECU and say they have seen the same thing before. I'm going to try to get some codes read and see if there is anything more I can do. Went and picked the car up last night from the mechanic and although it was a battle I kept her going until it warmed up and started running properly. I'll keep ya posted Kernzie
  14. I have a '84 Subaru Turbo that has somehow zapped the Electronic Control Module. It floods the engine on start-up but if you can keep it running long enough it will warm up and run like a top. A new one is prohibitive to buy and I haven't had any luck finding a used one. (It has to be for the fairly rare Turbo model with multiport fuel injection) The car would go right the the wrecker if I hadn't rebuilt the engine and put a clutch in a couple of years back. Does anybody know where I could find one or if there is something else I can do??
