  1. The parts house wanted to try to sell me new rotors that were 3 times as much money to replace the wrong fitting ones. They were going to discount them, but still over twice as much. I took them the wrong ones and got my money. Went to another place, and theirs were the exact same box and part, wrong as well. This place turned them for free while I waited to reduce that lip. All good now. The second place gets first crack at my business next time. Cookie, on the jacking issue, is there something I need to be careful of with this car? I still would like to know how the backing plates get bent. Is it ok to jack the rear up by the rear? I have been with no apparent problems.
  2. I pulled both sides apart again, and took the rotors off. The inside edge of the rotor is hitting the emergency brake backing plate (The part that is supposed to nestle in that spot). The new rotors are not exactly the same as the old ones....obviously. FYI - Dura International Brake Rotor #31043 is what I used. Can't wait to see what they say about this tomorrow.
  3. No noise before the brake job. Both sides now make the same noise. How would someone go about jacking to bend the backing plates? If they were previously bent, could they have not interfered with the old rotors, and now do interfere with the new thicker ones? Is that kinda what you are saying could be happening? Could things flex enough when cornering to cause the plates to hit? I guess I'll pull the wheels off again and look for marks. Nothing obvious can be seen through the wheels. Thanks for the replies, please keep them coming.
  4. I installed new rotors, calipers and pads. When test driving, I get nasty grinding noise around corners. It sounds like when the pads are shot and the rivots are grinding into the rotors. It made the same sound when driving in a straight line (not on the brakes at the time) when I first started out. After applying the brakes a few times, the noise went away when going straight (no side stress). Is this a normal sound caused by stuff flexing in turns with all new full thickness parts? :-\ I've never heard this when I did all new parts on other cars, but I've never done a Subaru before either. FYI - I cleaned the caliper brackets good, and the pins/bolts are lubed good. I put brake quiet on the backs of the pads too.
