  1. Thanks. I'll check it out and let you all know how it goes.
  2. Just for those who don’t know I drive a 1982 GLF and when I left work today and noticed a big oil spot on the ground of the spot where I was parked. I thought to myself that it was probably just some other guy’s oil and drove home. Once at home I checked and apparently I am leaking oil. I had this problem once before but it seemed to have corrected itself and stopped leaking. If you were looking at the car from the front side the leak would be coming from the right-front side of the engine. The dripping slowed down somewhat from when I first checked. I will check the about of oil lost tomorrow morning to see if I should drive it. My first question is what do you all think would make my car leak oil like this? My second is how would you all go about fixing it? Once again thanks everyone for your input.
  3. What a fantastic link! Those are some of the best photographed repair images I have ever seen and the explanations are very understandable. If anyone who has been assisting hasn't checked out this link, they should. It seems clear from all who have advised that the cable assembly is indeed what needs to be replaced and I will be sure to get a couple of OEM's as recommended. Heck, with these pictures, I may even try to do it myself (ok maybe I'll buy 3 just in case !) Thanks so much to all who have responded. You're a great bunch! I am new to much of this mechanical stuff and thought the GLF would provide me a good opportunity to learn. It looks like it is off to a GREAT start!
  4. Really appreciate your input. That does indeed sound like what is broken. The wire never gets tight although it is connected. Do you know what that piece is called? Is it part of the clutch cable assembly or a separate part altogether?
  5. I don't think that's it only because I looked at it when I was on the side of the road and both ends look to be connected fine. I'll check again but I don't think that’s my problem.
  6. A couple days ago, while driving my 82 GLF, I managed to break something having to do with my clutch. There is a "Rubber Grommet" as described by the Haynes Repair Manual that mounts to the firewall through which the clutch cable passes that is now missing. I also found a part of a plastic pack that looks like it may have contained two washers. It now only contained one washer and that was sheared in half. Without the Grommet and this plastic part, the clutch cable now moves freely, without pressure, through the firewall. Pretty useless as is. Is anyone familiar with the clutch cable assembly for the GLF? I am not sure if that plastic pack is part of the cable assembly or is a different part altogether? Also would anybody know the part ID for this rubber grommet and where I might find one. I have found a source for the clutch cable. Thanks for your assist.
  7. Cool thanks for the responses. You all have been a big help.
  8. So I picked up a pair of Hella 550 off roading lights for my GLf and want to mount the upright on the front bumper of the car. I don’t want them blocking my normal driving lights so that leaves me with only one place to put them and that is in front of the grill. But if I do that I am worried about airflow going into the radiator might somewhat blocked by the Hellas. My question is do you all think that the Hellas will block enough air to the point where they will become a problem?
  9. I know it's the cars second engine. I noticed that if i don't shift soo fast the gears won't grind in second but if i try to do any fast off the go shifting it will grind. Maybe it's something i will have to learn to live with but i'm not going to let a little thing like that stop me from autoXing.
  10. I have another question for you all. Did the 82 GL's come with Power steering? Mine doesn’t have any and it’s starting ti drive me crazy. Also when I am shifting and downshifting into second gear I keep getting this Crush noise like the gears are grinding but it still goes into gear just fine aside from the noise. Do you know what might be causing that?
  11. The farm course that I will be rallying on is completely dirt. It is fairly smooth for the first 20 or so runs and than the ruts start so develop. I just went out to check my car and it turns out it is fwd. I guess I just assumed that it being a Subaru it must be awd lol. But that’s ok because rallyX is about skill. AWD can only help you so much because if you don’t have the skills I really won’t matter. I think at that last RallyX venue I went to an old Nissan sentra won and most of the competitors there that day were AWD.
  12. I love those hella 500s. Im not sure that I would put them down so low to the ground though. I would be to worried about bushes and things like that knocking them out of place.
  13. Cool thanks for thanks for all the suggestions.
  14. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any good rally/off road lights that would fit and look decent on a 1982 GLF? I have done some research on the topic myself but can’t seem to find any light that will look good on the car. I know I can always go for the cheap autozone/walmart brand but I was looking for some a little better. I was also looking for a bar that could mount to the front of the car and hold the light opposed to just drilling the lights into the plastic bumper. Can you guys help me out?
