  1. '93 impreza wont start. it just won't fire. what should i go about checking? how can i test to see if it is getting fuel/spark?
  2. i'm in the process of revamping my exhaust and i was wondering if i can hook everything together without a welder.
  3. i am installing a 2" i.d. muffer. i was wondering if it would be better to adapt to 2" pipe just after the Y pipe, or would it work just as well if i don't go up to 2" pipe until the front of the second cat¿? I plan on running it as straight as possible and eliminating cat #2.
  4. i live at 5500 or so ft. i get less milage out of my gas than most of you guys. i've only roughly calculated it though. i'd probably get better milage if i didn't haul rump roast everywhere. i just get so frustrated by everyone else on the road. a mechanic friend of mine told me that when he took his Mazda down to sea level it felt like he had two more cylinders. i' sure he was exaggerating a little, but i have heard this same type of comment from other people too. just more oxygen to burn @ sea level.
  5. my ea82 engine has a funny exhaust rhythm. what i mean is it seems to glug instead of being smooth. i was told that a cylinder may be missing or really low on compression. does this happen with anybody else's car? i checked the ignition system first. it's just fine. i don't own a compression test so i don't have too much to go by. how can i find out what cylinder it is? thankya
  6. i save alot of gas by babying it and not floring it too often. also, while cruising, i shift up in order to lower RPM. kind of obvious but it works better than you would think. just my spare change
  7. sorry ed, i couldn't remember your username. i sent the payment for the haynes manual and it cameback because i sent to a nonexistent addresse. i messed up on the envelpe. just to clarify, please mail me your addresse again. thanks for waiting so long, Brian
  8. i have been somewhat frustrated with my gl wagon lately. what keeps me hangin in there is the thought of the cost and how reliable and long lasting it is when it's working. hang in there, it's good experience.
  9. i don't know where the temp sensor sits on my ea82, but i was wondering if the sensor needs to be submersed in fluid to function. where exactly does it sit in the stock position¿
  10. i plan on buying this other wagon is because i need CV axles up front and the pass. side front tire is about a 1/2 to 1 1/2" farther back than the driver's side. i plan on taking all the good parts and making a well functioning auto out of them. so the engine can be shot or whatever. it doesn't matter too much to me. i just need a solid body to handle the fuel injected fury of the ea82 engine. guy says that the clutch is out. i just installed a new one about a week or two ago. the car has been sitting for 3-6 months if memmory serves correct. hopefully i can get another D/R tranny out of it. guy wants $550 obo. i'm gonna offer 350 @ theend f he month. i'll just gop from there. what's nice is the fact that i make sales for a living. i hope this guy is ready for the biggest pile of BS this side of the mason dixson.
  11. i'm contemplating purchasing another ea82 4WD wagon. Not sure whether it is PB or DR. It's an '87gl. i plan on using all the good parts from 2 cars to make 1 well functioning car. what things should i look for/check/examine/test/etc¿ any and all suggestions would be appreciated. i post again when i get more info such as mileage, fuel delivery system, and trim.
  12. anybody have the stock HP for an ea82SPFI¿ thanks
  13. card card = BAD!!! i sell them for a living. make SURE that you tak advantage of the grace period and NEVER EVER be late on payments. If you're late, allbalances at any promotional prices will increase to your member APR. in other words: they will skyrocket. just my mind not being able to leave my horrible immoral job.
  14. before you jump into disassembly again, check to ake sure that the transaxle is in gear. i narrowly escaped another engie pull this way. i installed a newcutch and the damn car wouldn't move. seeing my options i decided to start pulling it again. i got everything pulled on the pass sie then thought of the 4wd. good thing to. damn thing slipped out of 4lo. close call.
  15. i've gotcha. i went and looked and here is how it goes: black/yellow comes from just infront of the battery and goes to the water jacket or whatever. you know that. then fom there, that small guage black wire attatches also o th water jacket. i found mine connecting through some type of little, not quite harness, but wire plug type deal. i found it under the ignition coil and the fusible links. this is the wire you want to use. i just went and took a look not two minutes ago. best of luck. if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
  16. no class can ever replace real world drivig. speaking of autcross, i beat a 57 vette by 2.3 seconds in five laps last summer. he just didn't dive hard enough. it was his baby and the biggest turn had a square curb right atthe outside apex. i just shifted to 4hi and tore through it. overall, even with all the nice cars that were there, i got second or third to last place. also, i've lived in the town i'm in now for 16 years so i know every little road and cutacross and whatnot. i wish i kept a tally of however many cops i've out run.:-p
  17. i really want to go down to denver and hit up the skip barber along I-25. i can say that i drive better than ALL of my friends. always when a driver is need for anything at all, i'm the go-to man. feels good.
  18. it's amazing how well the heater works with proper coolant levels isn't it? i was mistakenly running 100% anti-freeze for about a week. last time i take some parts guy's word. oh yeah, i used regular, run of the mill tap water. i just don't want to bother with the price of water. i have a new radiator and i should have started on the right track, but my car is a beater and i don't like to go overboard. i'm kinda in the market for a new car. i have some bills that i should pay and don't really need a new car, but i really want another sube.
  19. i used to do some spec racing. karts. 125cc MX engines. amazing power:weight. i learned ALOT from our track days. this is my main beef wih ricers. i absolutely HATE thse that have these nice cars but couldn't buy driving skills.
  20. i need to wire my electric fan so that it is on when the engine is running. i think i already have the wiring part figured out, but i can't find a 12v switched wire anywhere. the one that i did manage to find inside the engine bay turned out to be too scrawny to carrythe juice for the fan. right now it is just wired off the battery to a switch and a fuse. i know this sounds like one of those "get under there and just find it" type of things but i tried that and didn't have the best of luck. so if someone knows of a spot where i can find a switched 12v wire inside the engine bay, please let me know. thanks, brian
  21. i've got a good one too. just happened a few hours ago. i got my engine all hooked up after installing my new clutch and when i tried to put it in gear it would not move. it felt like the pressure plate was pulling away just fine. i fiddled with the cable for about ten minutes, to no avail. so i decided that i must have done something wrong and would need to pull the engine again. so i started and about five minutes into the operation i miraculousl decided to check to make sure that the transaxle wasn't in neutral. sure enough it was. somehow this just slipped my mind while i was troubleshooting the clutch. definitely a close call.
  22. a little late for me. i don't think it will hurt anything though. i accidentally put it in full strenghth and ran it for about a week because the guy who sold me on it told me that it was premix when i asked. i didn't even bother to look and verify. whoops.
  23. just a little clarification, the dash don't work anytime. the tail lights don't either. i use the parking lights when running at night. i've got a service manual coming in the mail ion the next week or so. i'll check it out then. thanks fellas.
