  1. hey samo, with this mass airflow sensor from the sentra do you use the wiring too, or just the piece that the filter connects to¿ sounds interesting.
  2. i use the platinum plugs. i noticed a difference between the generic plugs that were in it when i bought it. i hear all the time "NGK this, and NGK that" i can't vouch for the NGKs, but my platinums work just fine. also, it makes no difference which plugs you have with the "V". they don't spark at the same time. i'm sure we all know tht one though. when i get paid on the 15th i'm gonna get a coil and ome fatty wires. if the NGK's aren't too expensive i might pick up a set. i think i'm gonna replac the PCV too. it a soob pcv but i had a smoking right turn awhile back. couldn't hurt.
  3. sounds like time for me to but in. i've got an 88 gl and my tail lights are non-functioning. i have to turn on the parking lights to drive at night. what should i check besides the fuse¿ how hard do you think it would be to just rewire¿ maybe this will help us both. me and buddy talked about it a bit last month or so.
  4. my mistake, i thought it was especcially for alluminum engines. either way it didn't cost me anymore. it was the same price as one of those or two premixed. plus it looks "high-tech". lol:D
  5. i bought some specialty prestone or some other name brand anti-freeze that is orange. it's specially formulated for aluminum engines.
  6. you'll definitely have to disconnect the heater hoses. maybe some electrical stuff too. more than likely.
  7. gotcha. definitely a hehe. i was thinking more on the lines of a fan to cool the clutch.
  8. may i suggest using some pieces of telephone wire? thats what i used to keep everything all paired up. works very well. many colors, not too many hoses and what not.
  9. i have heard of clutch fans before. i don't believe that i have one. is this assumption correct. just real quick. don't want to hi-jack.
  10. get a hoist if you can. i just did a clutch job in my 88 gl last week. the engine comes out fairly easy. like previosly stated, the hard part is lining it up when putting it back in. you wil need a jack of some type to hold the transmission up. you can use a come-along attatched to a joist if you don't have access to a hoist. i'd never pulled an engine before and i'm not really a mechanic and took me 5 hours to have it all unhooked and unbolted and lifted out and clutch pulled. the only problem i encountered on the ea82 is the disty side engine mount. what a beeatch. i found it easiest to unbolt the mount from the bottom and leave the motor mout connected on that side. have fun. and patience
  11. don't sweat it fellas, the board is pretty much a repair manual anyways. maybe after fox and rooinater get the "manuals" on their sites up and going a link would be in order? they seem like they will be pretty comprehensive. i dunno, just a thought.
  12. jrgaylor, thats a nice sounding exhaust. what is it? nice video. i added it to my collection. i get a silly little grin everytime i see a sube tearin it up.
  13. most everyone is going to tell you o leave he mech. off. i suggest either putting on another electric fan or the original mechanical. you can go to the JY and get an electric fan out of another sube and carefully drill two nw mounting holes in your radiator. but for now, i suggest that you get something, anything, in there to cool it down. heat=bad
  14. right on, that makes me inspired to get mine on. it's been sitting around for a month or so. i'm gonna paint it chrome or a metallic red. more than likely the chrome because i don't want the spoiler paint taking away from the rest of the car. i just need to drop my engine back in and hook it first. definitely post a pic when you're done.
  15. just to clarify, i have 51-55lb.ft. for the flywheel, 11-12 for the pp, and 14-20 for the bell housing. is this correct?
  16. thanks bro, you're a life saver. you sure about this 1/4 turn business? sounds a little too backyard mechanic to me. can i trust this method for sure?
  17. i saw all the people currently browsing and decided i'd run one through y'all. i need all the torque specs for an 88 gl 4wd clutch. i need to be leaving soon and can't really get started reassembling until i know how tight to go. thanks guys
  18. torxxx, any more info on the preload adjusters? where and how? thanks
  19. i suggest going to a hardware specific part store and asking about (can't remember the name) a type of nut/bolt/screw something combo. they are made for anchoring things into sheet metal. the guy at the counter will be able to help without a doubt. was the donor an ea82? if so, it will be pretty easy to mount. definitely mount it on the hatch. i had a wild hair up my rump roast and decided to get some input o mounting elsewhere. on second thought i realized hat the best looking and only place it will actually function is on the top of the hatch. all you need to do is center it laterally and screw it in. on the bottom of the "feet" it is curved to fit thehatch. just make the curve fit and screw it in. i haven't mounted mine yet because 3 of the 4 screws that hold the wing on are broken at the head and stuck in the "feet". i plan on dremeling the feet so they will fit an ea82 then drillig through the existing crews and just put a long bolt through all of it and the car, bolting it at the end. post pics when done if you can.
  20. what you are saying makes alot of sense. it kinda slipped my mind that it was all user submissions. i have the 89 fsm .pdf. the section for driveline and whatnot is missing. i'll just try to look around. any suggestions?
  21. what is the deal with the usrm? it doesn't cover even themost basic repairs such as clutch work. i know there is a write up somewhere. but somewhere is the keyword. i'm really pressed for time, so i'm just gona go hunting at the library. boy, will i be appreciative of the west coast stomper's [age and foxesw page when thay are all done. just a rant and rave. but seriously, the usrm just doesn't do the name repair manual justice.
  22. i pulled my first engine ever today. came outta my 88gl wagon. it took me 5 1/2 hours to pull the engine and the clutch. boy does it feel satisfying. i did this all by myself and i am NO mechanic. the only problem i came across was the motor mount on the disty side. i mistakenly thought that i had to take it off from the top like on the other side. i fiddled with that for maybe 45 min., give or take. it's amazing how small the engine and bay looked when it was finally out. i'm gonna try to find somewhere to resurface the flywheel tomorrow. i don't figure that anyone will be open , so i'll probably have the clutch installed by monday night. more than likely i'll be back on the road tuesday or wednesday depending on my work schedule. i just had to tell somebody. it really makes that Subaru bug burrow deeper.
  23. just a thought, do these other coils have the same resistance and whatnot?
  24. got a nice jack, some jackstands, chock-boxes, and a creeper. bunch of cash from all the relatives. oh yeah. new clutch here i come.
  25. hondasucks, send 'em!!! i'll give you five bucks plus shipping. e-mail me at maroondunedoom@aol.com the bolts are broken at the head flush with the top of the feet.
