  1. Look Here: ~► http://www.carthrottle.com/toyotas-done-the-dirty-on-us-gt86-saloon-confirmed/ So sad it is not April 1st, so it must be True... Kind Regards.
  2. (Apologies in advance for a LONG post; sorry, guys, but there's no other way.) Hey guys, I'm looking for some feedback on a couple of issues I'm having with a used 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.2L sedan w/ 119K miles I bought just 4 days ago (the very end of 2013). My wife and I paid a premium for this car over the KBB estimate because it had a 12+ year comprehensive service history from the local Subaru dealership. The CL listing stated the following: Dealer maintained, Major Services done, Clean! A rare find! Well maintained with TONS of dealership service. All major maintanences have been done including timing belt and head gaskets. This Impreza has also been inspected by our licensed Subaru technicians. The timing belt & head gasket work was what caught my eye; the sales guy gave me copies of the service history for this car going back to 2002. All work was either done at the dealership (for things like oil changes and some CEL work in 2002) or at a nearby Subaru shop with a great reputation for the 50K, 90K, and 105K scheduled maintenance. ISSUE #1: The Subaru shop confirmed that they changed timing belts at 90K, but there's no record of them or the dealership ever having done the head gaskets. So, unless the previous owner had them done somewhere else (highly unlikely since like clockwork she only used these 2 shops for 12+ years with regular records on CarFax), it seems that the head gaskets have NOT been changed. What should I do about this? Unless the dealership can prove that this work has been done, I think they either need to replace the gaskets as advertised, or warranty that if the gaskets ever do fail, they will do all necessary repairs for free. ISSUE #2: When I did my first walkaround of the car, I noticed that the gas cap was missing. I told the sales guy at his desk and he said: "Yeah, I got it from the back." However, the cap is an older, non-OEM brand, and the CEL has been turning on intermittently for the last 2 days, presumably because of this. When I mess with the gas cap, the light goes off, but it keeps coming back on. Now, the CEL may *not* be due to the gas cap (I'd need to see what the code is), so who knows. I'm also concerned that 4 days off the lot the CEL is turning on and off, especially since the dealer had the car for nearly 3 weeks and put it through an inspection by licensed technicians. ISSUE #3: One of the dealer work invoices for December 2013 stated the following: "Abnormal noise while car is rolling - sounds like RR area - Wheel BRG passes preliminary inspection (DIO)". I'm also hearing this noise; it only happens if the car rolls forward very slowly by its own weight/inertia, so I didn't hear it during the test drive. If it's under power then you don't hear it. Seems to me that since the dealership spotted this during their 11 point inspection, they should have addressed the issue. DISCLAIMER: I understand that when you buy a used car, you're rolling the dice. But in my defense, I bought a car with a solid maintenance history from a Subaru dealership to avoid these kinds of issues. And I don't think it's unrealistic for me to expect the dealership to address these issues. I'm planning to swing by tomorrow morning (1/3/2014).
  3. Hi, I've been searching around and have found threads with some similar problems but not the exact same problem. I have a 2009 Impreza automatic trans that has a traction control light that stays on. I've seen other threads where the traction light, check engine light, and abs lights are all on. Mine only has the traction control light - and no, pressing the traction control button doesn't do anything. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks Brad
  4. Hello, hello! I'm looking at a 2007 Impreza 2.5i Hatchback. I've never bought Subaru before so I'm asking for some guidance and help with my decision making. Are there any red flags I should consider before moving forward? Any typical problems I should be aware of during certain mileage markers? Any comments, positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hi, I recently bought a 2005 impreza 1.6l with an ihi rhb5 turbo (about 150 hp) and I noticed that the real boost starts over 3800-4000 rpm (100+ octane gasoline). The thing is that I dont want (for now...) more power I just want a little bit more torque at lower rpm (lets say 1000 rpm less). I checked over the internet and I saw 2 or 3 propable solutions. 1) wider exhaust pipe for lower back pressure in order to help turbo spool up faster 2) stiffer spring in wastegate actuator 3) remap ecu What is the best to start with and because stock ecu isnt a good choice for remapping I would like a suggestion for an aftermarket one. Thank you in advance.
  6. Alsalam Alaykom and Good day, i am seeking for knowledge as it is not found anywhere around, i have several problem with my 97 Subaru Impreza "FWD-1.6" which i really love so much, and i was hoping to find some answers in here as even in the internet haven't much related to my car: when i am on the first gear, and raise my foot gently to make the car moves "without using acceleration" the whole engine shakes real bad, and to over come on this problem, i have to use the acceleration, which i don't consider normal as i have driven so much cars that could drive without using the acceleration, although there's a little shake in the other gears, but the first gear is the worst experience, so i was hoping for some answers regarding this matter, what trouble shooting i should do. i would like to have a full map for all the sensors for 97 Subaru Impreza "FWD-1.6" with the function of each one, and how to check on them. in winter, when its cold, the engine temp. decrease so much, and i don't know the reason for that. the engine sound is so loud, like lots of loud quick "tic-tic-tic-tic", is this normal in subaru world? what are the things that i suppose to check from time to time, and what should be replaced after exact time or km i really appreciate your time for just reading my problems, and i am hoping to hear from anyone that might help me, as you don't know how much this car means to me, it's love
  7. Does anyone know where I could get the pressure hose for the power steering for my 1998 Impreza?
  8. The blower for the heater/AC on my son's 2008 Impreza WRX (non-STI) stopped working. No fan or air movement at any setting. It's the automatic climate control version. I checked all related fuses in driver side interior fuse block. They're good. He says the fan surged a couple of times during use so he turned it off. The next time he turned it on, nothing. Where should I look next? Thanks. Tom
  9. Hey community .. gotta '94 gx impreza ej18 fwd 5sp .. and love it.. but i have a water leak coming from the rubber seal for the timing belt cover.. had a look on here but can't find much info.. anyone got any clues?
  10. Well I finally manned up and got my impreza lifted! I've got a set of MEATY 215/70/15 snow tires on it now. I have enough clearance around the rear to not need the outback link brackets so I'm going to save those for a car that might pass another inspection instead of this poor thing. I also think I'll run it without the rear swaybar because my family completely dominates my time and it was almost all I could do to get just the struts swapped. I painted the car with an HVLP gun and some slightly thinned hardware store rust paint. The colour didn't turn out quite as OD as it was supposed to but again I don't have time to re-do it all again so it's close enough. Here's a picture for everyone's enjoyment/mockery: Thanks to everyone around here for inspiring and educating me so I could tackle this myself!
  11. I'm looking for a trailer hitch for my 2006 Impreza Outback (I want to use a bike carrier). I just got a Class II trailer hitch with a 1 1/4" receiver from a tractor supply store and when I took this to my mechanic to get it installed, they told me this was for an Impreza and not an Impreza Outback. So do they make trailer hitches for 2006 Impreza Outbacks? Thanks for anyone's help.
  12. My wife recently bought a 1999 Impreza wagon with 77,000 miles on it. Private sale. I noticed that the brakes were a little soft so today I decided to do a brake job on it. I was surprised to find that it had drum brakes in the back. Here's where it gets weird. The front right pads were completely worn out and they were original Subie pads. The driver's side had replacement pads from Autozone and they looked almost new. The rear shoes were almost new. What puzzles me most is why only the left front pads were replaced and why didn't they exhibit more wear? Were the right fronts doing all the work? The car didn't pull when the brakes were applied; I just thought that they needed to be done due to a soft pedal.
  13. New to the forum and the world of Subarus (for the most part). My girlfriend and I selling our vehicles (hers a 2000 Wrangler, just sold, mine a 2001 Buick, still on the market) and are planning on buiying a sub 100k mile Subaru wagon for between $5k and $7k, preferably around 6500. We don't have a specific model in mind, but I am looking for advice on what the most reliable models in that price range would be (from about 1999 to 2005).. I know Subarus are known for their reliability, but i have noticed here and there on the Web that certain issues arise in certain engines. Any and all input would be appreciated! As of yet, we are still waiting to sell my car before making a purchase. However, we may look at a 2004 Outback H6 with 80k miles this weekend, so any info on that model would be great! I noticed the gas mileage wasn't great and the transmission a bit dated. Any issues? Yay or nay on this model? It's listed at $5900, well below KBB, so I'm just as suspicious as I am excited.
  14. Got my Hatch a couple months ago Shes got less than 7k on her. Id upload photos but all of them have such a high resolution I cant even fit. Shes got tints, raingaurds, and im hopin for a lip spoiler
  15. Ok I'm lost again. My husband and the subaru dealer said my car was acting fine now that they reset the computer. I drive it for about 5 hrs afterwards and the engine light turns on and we're having the same problem again. Guess the throttle position sensor didn't work. Here's what it's doing.... when I stop... sometimes not all times... I can depress the gas and no matter how much I push the pedal it will pull out at around 5mph. When it really acted up I even tried flooring it and the car crawls away 5mph then all of a sudden it acts like the gas kicks in or the engine realizes that I'm accelerating and it jumps. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Haven't run the codes yet but I will asap and keep you posted.
  16. I am completely lost... went to Advance and had it put on the computer and was told it was an O2 sensor, changed, pulling out and push the gas and pull out at 5mph regardless of how much gas I give it. Suspected throttle position sensor since Advance now says they can't check the codes cause it wasn't hooking up. We buy our own code machine and check again and get that the knock sensor needs changed, husband tries to drive it to see if the TPS is fixed and AWD locks down and there's a clicking noise he feels is the acuator now. This just seems like a total spiral to the death of this car and it's just under 150,000 miles! HELP!!!
  17. Okay, so I'll try to break this down as detailed as possible. I have a '97 Impreza Outback Sport that has seen better days. It is beat to Hell, and the wiring/interior is all messed up (previous owner on all fronts). It still runs like a champ though. So the other day I accidentally left the door ajar, and the battery died. When I recharged it, the security light was blinking. I did some research, and I haven't been able to get it to shut off no matter what I do. I don't have a remote, so the auto-lock option is a no go. I found the button under the dash, but it did nothing. Upon further examination I found that there was a fuse missing at one wire junction. I put a new fuse in, but now when I hold the button and turn the key to ON, the locks go a couple times, but the light keeps blinking. I've tried disconnecting the battery, turning the key to ON and reconnecting the battery. Doesn't work. I've tried turning the key to ACC multiple times as well. Pretty much everything I've seen as a possibility, I've tried. Nothing works. I haven't fully charged the battery, and I can't drive the vehicle right now, so the blinking light keeps draining the battery. So now I'm wondering, should I try to buy a replacement remote, and hope that works? Or, can I just remove the entire keyless entry module somehow, and just disable the whole system. The thing already doesn't have power locks, so I wont necessarily miss it. Also, could maybe cutting the cord to the light stop it from drawing power? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  18. Im new to Subaru as well as being new to this forum and forums in general really, Just here looking for some help from those of you that have been around them longer and have more experience, Im always willing to learn and enjoy meeting new people. Any one willing to help me out just respond on here or shoot me a message, i dont really know how it works, but it would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Tyler
  19. Im new to all of this, my previous car was a 96 Oldsmobile and so this is my first step into having really my own car that i can work on/learn with and upgrade. Ive found a lot of parts for the WRX and STI models but not very much for the Impreza, I was wondering if the WRX parts would fit and work properly on an Impreza. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tyler
  20. Hi all, have had issues with my 02 plate GX (yep turbos are too much for me to handle ) which long story short I've narrowed down to being pre-cat o2 sensor - problem is all the tech manuals i can find are fairly vague about parts for the GX (it looks like it's the b*d child of every other model in the range!) so I can't quite work out the part number for the front lambda - any ideas? the ones suggested always seem to have the wrong connector (mine has a white box shaped connector) any help much appreciated
  21. Hello there. Hopefully someone out here can help me diagnose a severe oil leak. Oil is pouring out of the car when running near the valve cover gasket and the cover for the timing belt on the passenger side/front of motor. What I am trying to figure out before having it repaired, iWhat s the likeyhood it can be a blown head gasket? There is no antifreeze present and the car is not over heating.
