  1. Thinking about picking up a cheap 1998 Impreza for the soul purpose of making it a 22b and fast... But I'm looking for some input as in prices and what all I'd have to go through to make this happen
  2. Hey all, Just wondering what the possibilities are regarding swapping an 09 xt forester 2.5l turbo into say an older ( **** - 2008) forester, liberty, outback, wrx etc? any quid pro quos or pitfalls that would make it overly difficult?
  3. Hello All, Newbie here. I am in the market for a new Subaru, a WRX Sti hatchback 6 speed . Any advice you could provide with the pros and cons would be great . the one thing I have noticed is that good quality low mileage used cars are not that much less than buying a new WRX so I am opting for the new car route. I am a long time VW TDI fan, and as much as I loved my TDI's I think I am over having a diesel car. Thanks
  4. Hello. I was looking at buying a 2002 Subaru hatchback for a daily driver. I found one that I thought was good but just a little unsure about some things. The car has 240,000 miles on the chassis with no rust. The owner has replaced the engine and its sitting at 80,000 miles. The car is surprisingly clean with only a few dings here and there. He has put on new brakes new shocks/struts, tires, turbo, and a new subframe. Is it worth buying or should I stay away?
  5. Hello and thank you in advance for all of your help and suggestions. I've bought an old sf5 that's been swapped and had a host of problems that i've been trying to sort out on my own. The car hasn't had a good life and it shows. 2 years ago its been swapped with a gc8 wrx motor mated to a type ra 4.44 close ratio box and differential. It works for the most part but it's never had a working speedo. Lots of other things work. It's got rpms, temp, fuel, outside temp. It has no check engine light and the obd port has no power to it. My issue is that it gets speed cut. The gear box has the three wire speed sensor, I've got a manual forester gauge cluster and manual forester 4W 3 plug ecu. I need help fixing the speedcut. i would like to wire the speed sensor directly to where the signal needs to go. I've tried sending the speed sensor signal to the ecu and it has no effect. also tried a different ecu because i had that option and it didn't work either. I've tested the speed sensor output and the sensor works well, the issue is the correct wiring of the speed signal to supposedly the gauge cluster. In trinidad we get international versions of japanese cars as well as roll on roll off jdm versions. I believe this car is an international version that was a automatic when stock.

Just thought I would share a fun project that TSSFab has got going on right now. A few of you have seen some of the pics but I figured I would throw it out there for everyone. Pics aren't necessarilly in order for the first post but I'll keep the updates coming as they happen. Rear Front Subframe Control Arms
  8. need advice! I've been looking for a 05 Wrx for a couple of years and living in California it's hard to find one that has decent mileage and is a clean title. This weekend I checked out one with 151k and the exterior and interior were very well kept beside a cheap carbon fiber hood. However I few things caught my eye that make me skeptical. The Oil was low, the power steering reservoir has a minor leak, and the inter cooler coupler was pretty old. The way he drove the car worried me because he didn't rev match (Not a huge deal) and after the test drive he didn't let the turbo cool off before shutting her off (again not a huge worry) he was asking 9k for it but willing to negotiate. I doubt he'll go lower than 8k. I've never owned a subie so any advice please. Is it worth taking it for a pre purchase inspection? Or should I walk?
  9. After doing some searching myself, I find that there's some good info out there among the Subie sites on swapping newer Suspension components into older Subies. I'm looking to swap out my city beaten 98 GF8 suspension, so I've done some info gathering and have come up with a pool of useful links for your typical GC8 or GF8 swaps. Maybe you'd like a lift for trail trekking, nab some Fozzie struts (Forester). Most Subie compents will bolt up, if not with some coaxing. I'd like to hear from some members that have done these kinds of swaps themselves, on what worked out for them and what didn't. Ideally, I'd appreciate a first hand account of the work and end result. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18820009&postcount=7 General info on modifying the suspension on 93-2001 Impreza's of all trims Which came from this "will this suspension part fit my x Subaru?" http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=18820009#post18820009 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/118004-the-unofficial-how-to-lift-your-impreza-thread/ the-unofficial-how-to-lift-your-impreza-thread http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t70898-diy-strut-spring-install-pics.html diy-strut-spring-install http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1589951 Assembling front strut http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45743 Info on Legacy strut top hats and springs, needed to fit GD WRX rear struts into a GC8/GF8 (at least that's one route) http://www.rs25.com/forums/f9/t109573-forester-struts-impreza-gc8.html forester-struts-impreza-gc8 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2279833 What USDM Springs/Struts Will Fit a JDM '94 GC8? http://www.rs25.com/forums/f24/t96397-04-wrx-suspension-into-gf8.html http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1980173 GD suspension on a GC http://www.rs25.com/forums/f9/t200479-02-wrx-front-struts-l-rear.html Saggy rear, wrx front struts and stock rear struts http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1429052 Trailing link install tutorial
  10. After replacing my radiator I started with a distilled water/white vinegar mix, then three rounds of water flushes. On the water flushes I used the factory-preferred method and had some pretty interesting results. Before I explain what happened, let me tell you what did NOT happen:The engine did not overheat. The temp gauge didn't budge above normal at all after reaching operating temperature. I attribute this to massaging the radiator hoses a whole bunch before capping the system each time. The check engine lamp never came on. As in, not once. Not even a flicker.I did not change throttle position at all when the phenomena began, until noted in the video. It was repeatable enough to happen on three consecutive "burps." So, what did happen? About 6 or 7 minutes into my 10 minute burp procedure, I would lose control of the throttle. Mind you, this is a drive-by-cable throttle, and I hadn't changed the throttle position at all. When this happened the rpms would drop down to about 1,250, then up to 1,750 rpm and repeat until I either floored the throttle, or backed out and let the engine idle. What the hell is going on?
  11. I have my flame suit on so here goes... I've searched for the past 4 hours on here for EJ22 to EJ20T swap threads and came up empty handed. I'm looking to swap an EJ20T from a WRX 02-05 into my 99 OBS with an EJ22 to bring her up to spec with how she was supposed to be imported here into the states before the bureaucraps got in the way! Need to find a build thread which outlines which components I need to grab from the other car. It's my understanding I would only need the Engine (duh), the exhaust components for turbo operation, and the ECM. Does the 99 OBS harness plug directly into the WRX ECM/Engine Harness or do i need to do a harness swap? I have a good line on an EJ20T longblock with a TD0520g turbo, but has rod knock which I can rebuild no problem, have a shop with lift and cherry picker and am not in a hurry so I can build the engine/exhaust etc off the car until ready for install. I am just trying to avoid making a big mistake from a technical oversight with compatibility or missing something obvious. Thanks for the help, and yes I'm sure there is a thread buried out there somewhere.
  12. My 06 WRX wagon with 43K doesn't see many miles and most of my maintenance is done on the 'time' side of the schedule. It came from the factory with Iridium plugs. Recently, it has begun intermittently making a 'chk' sound and I can feel the car jerk very slightly. No CEL. I waited till the tank was nearly empty, put in some SeaFoam and filled it up. No help, No CEL. It may be on its 3rd or 4th tank so, I doubt it's a fuel issue. I did pull the MAF connector to force a CEL so I could get FreezeFrame data with my scanner. Fuel trims were all low single digits (dunno what else I should look for there) This weekend, I swapped out the plugs. And of course, all four I removed 'look' pretty good. Sigh - well, I have new plugs in even though the old ones probably had another 20K or more life in them. Car still has the miss. It is very random. never seems to do 2 in quick succession, and there could be one, followed by another in 300 yards, or it might be a mile. I have an 11 mile commute on side streets. I have heard it at idle maybe 2 times. I THINK I've heard it decelerating 3-4 times. Of course, at high RPM I can't really hear anything so, not sure if it's happening. But cruising around at 1800 to 3 K or so, it could happen 10-20 times on the way home. so, I figure I may as well ask what you guys what you think. If I were gonna change something, what would it be (crank angle sensor ?) or even take it to a dealer (what would they be able to do?) I'd really rather not just wait until a CEL comes on or something breaks.
  13. The 'time' side of my maintenance schedule says my car needs a timing belt. The car has only 51,000 miles but is an 06 (delivered in October of 05). This would be my first Subaru timing belt and I think I'm gonna have some questions and probably need some moral support. (actually, the ONLY T-belt I've ever installed was on a 1978 Civic wagon ! - that was belt only too) first, it appears my car has an ej255 engine. I think I'd like to get parts from either theimportexperts or mizumoauto on ebay, however, the compatibility/'selection scheme' often says my car isn't compatible. Still, a coupla links that 'look' good are ; http://www.ebay.com/itm/371001013292?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and http://www.ebay.com/itm/261044896184?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT#vi-ilComp look OK? Also, I'd rather not do any work/spend money that folks would consider unnecessary. Mostly because of risk due to my inexperience. I DON"T mind working on the car for 2-3 days or paying for good parts, so IF I change the waterpump (would you change it at 51K miles?), I'm gonna get an Aisin. I know nothing about the GMB parts listed in one of those links and am leaning toward the more expensive NTN w'ever parts. Many people seem to think I should change the water pump and the cam and crank seals (remember - 51,000 miles ) but, as for the seals, it seems there's some 'art'/skill involved, and maybe I'd need a special tool to remove them - maybe to seat them as well. Plus, I've never used the sealants you guys talk about, Ulta grey or anaerobic? Couple that with stories of cracking cam pulleys(there's 4 of them!) and needing to sand-down (?) some shaft surfaces - I kinda feel like it might be too risky for me to tackle the seals unless I see leaks? I'd like a link to the FSM for this job if someone knows it (2006 WRX Wagon) Does everyone pull the oil pump and re-seal the back of it? Can I just leave it alone? What size socket is needed for the crank pulley? (in case i need to get a 6-point for my impact) Will I need to use any of the following; sealants (what types?), anti-seize(where?) ,threadlocker (where?), grease or special lube (where?) For a first timer, would you recommend pulling the radiator? probably install new hoses if I do but ??? any parts easily damaged plastic or hardware that will likely need replacing along the way? (clips, screws, bolts, nuts) any suggestions for the major 'gotchas' to watch out for? any decent pics or videos around? I have hardware stores near enough, dealer is 17 miles away. I don't expect someone to respond to everything, but I will listen to any wisdom you guys want to pass along. naturally, I have to live with any compromises I make, just wondering what experienced mechs have to say. If waterpumps leak coolant instead of seizing their bearings, I might leave mine in for instance.
  14. Buying a 2013 wrx sedan with 4,000 miles on it. I can spend $3000-4000 on mods. I was thinking an intake and full exhaust. What do yall think? If I were to do more mods after that what would you do? I'll post a pic of the car. Oh and rim color ideas?

  16. I recently bought a a 02 wrx. It supposedly has a STI block. Any way to identify if it truly is a STI? Thanks all!
  17. Hey everyone from USMB, I have a few sensor questions as to what is what on my '07 2.5I SOHC EJ25. I have a couple pictures attached below. I have them color coated just to make it easier to look through. RED BOX is where the bracket that holds the camshaft position sensor is supposed to go and the cam sensor (and bracket) I have is broken which is shown in GREEN BOX. Lastly, the mystery sensor in BLUE BOX, (I'm guessing could be an oil bypass) I need it because the connector broke off. These parts are located behind the cam pulley on the driver side. I've spent the last couple days trying to research and find the mystery sensor and the bracket for the cam pos. sensor. I'm trying to find out what they are called, and I had no luck so far. I need to buy them so I can get my car running smoothly. of course, I had no problem trying to find the cam sensor itself, but it does not come with the bracket. It would be great to know where I can find these parts and what they're called. Thanks! Pat
  18. Hey guys, I need insight. I have a 1980 subaru leone circle headlight model), and i despise the current 1.6L carby, and would really love to make the car a crazy sleeper, with some sort of OLDISH wrx, or wrx STI engine. Can anyone please help me, or has done something like this in the same year model, because i know that the models after the 1980 are very different. please help ASAP
  19. Hey guys, I am thinking about taking on an EJ22 to EJ20T heart transplant for my 99 OBS, had a few questions: MY OBS has the 5 speed MT 1) what years of WRX with EJ20T should I look for? 2) What all components do I need to take from other car: brakes, ECM, harness, exhaust, etc (not looking to change dash)? 3) what should I absolutely avoid in the process? (tips/tricks) 4) Should I keep my "glas trans" or should I grab the WRX tranny and rear end to match the gears too? Thanks everyone. this is a killer forum. Cheers.
  20. I bought a 02 wrx wagon from a friend of mine. Loving it so far. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips? Still kind of cash poor but i could do stuff over time. Parts list. (Not sure if 100% accurate.) sti block. Forged pistons. 32 way Godspeed coils. Stock bov capped to vent to atmosphere . No name axleback exhaust can. 05 legacy gt 5 spd tranny. It has a rebuilt title and supposidly only 30,000 on the motor. 155,000 on the body. I paid 4100$ Thanks guys! this is my first new gen subaru. Cheers!
  21. I did some searching and found stuff stating that it can be done. but I've not found any proof of it being possible and what customizations have to be made. I've got the xt6 5 lug swap done. I know the outer front axles will work there. but the trans is a female not a male like the xt6 correct? I'm thinking I would have to run impreza axles. and then comes the gear ratio matching with the rear end and driveline length I believe is shorter. if anyone has any info on this I would love to hear it. I'm going to continue clicking on the search button in the meantime! forgot to mention I'm going to be doing a ej20t swap from a 94-96 sti
  22. Hey everybody so I just bought another subaru I wanted to get a little feedback on it. So I picked up a Silver 03 wrx, 116k, for 11,900. Came with: Cobb V3 access port, Cobb SF intake, Rallitek sway bars front and rear, kyb struts all around Perrin rear shock support new tires drilled and slotted rotors all around prodrive streamline rims 17" sti turbo, cooler, and pipe recent work on it was front wheel bearings and valve cover gaskets. and an up pipe. Kelly blue book puts it at 10,200 carfax says add 1,500 because it was serviced regularly I think i made out like a bandit but what do you think? What are some things I should look for? I have been told timing belt is a must, but other than that this car is new to me.
  23. HI I'm a newbie. my Name is Joey, I live in Plano and drive a black 2008 wrx. Trenton Stubblefield (don't know user name) posted about this place on the north texas subaru face book page. thought I would say HI and have a look around. here my WRX nothing special 2011 wrx wheels with 225/45/17 and cat back n-1 single tip exhaust.
  24. So im going to be swapping the drive system in my brat with one from an early 2000's wrx, and im currious how difficult a certain modification would be. i would like to keep the abiloity to select on the fly 2wd and awd, so it would be a slurr of a 4wd system and an awd system. is this a feasable thing to attempt?
  25. The blower for the heater/AC on my son's 2008 Impreza WRX (non-STI) stopped working. No fan or air movement at any setting. It's the automatic climate control version. I checked all related fuses in driver side interior fuse block. They're good. He says the fan surged a couple of times during use so he turned it off. The next time he turned it on, nothing. Where should I look next? Thanks. Tom
